Introduction
Nursing practice is not only meant to look after the patients or maintain the medication balances;
instead, it involves the appropriate use of technologies and information in order to provide
quality nursing care to the patient. Nursing informatics has taken place in nursing science to
identify and manage data and information about the patient's medical history and conditions. It
also provides knowledge to the nurses. The present study will discuss the use of innovative
technologies and specialized software programs in the nursing system. It will highlight the
necessity of installing the electronic health record machine in the healthcare center for obtaining
better clinical reasoning.
Discussion
Information technology and its advantages:
The use of information technology has been increased many folds after initiation of the digital
era. Information technology makes nursing life more comfortable by increasing the effectiveness
of the intervention process in the healthcare sector. There are many advantages of using
information technology in the healthcare sector, and reducing human errors is one of them. With
the help of different information technology services nurses now make themselves free from
carrying the handwritten hard copies of patient's information. It is the nurse's responsibilities to
ensure the medical orders fulfillments appropriately within the time limit (Piscotty , Kalisch &
Thomas, 2015). Several forms of information technology are used in the healthcare center, and
electronic health record machine (EHR) is one of them.
Futuristic benefits:
Some other examples of information system which provide endless facilities in hospital
management are:
Automatic order system helps doctors to place orders regarding medications to the nurses
Use of the barcode machine has speed up the billing process of patient-related
components

Instant access to know the health-related legislative and ethical policies

Nursing informatics and its importance:
Nursing informatics is one of the crucial parts of the information technology used in hospitals
and another healthcare sector. Nursing informatics process is based mainly on focusing on the
quality improvement of the patient care system. It is a support system for the nurses, midwives,
and other care staff and stakeholders in decision-making procedures for the betterment of the
overall healthcare-related reputational outcomes. With the help of nursing informatics, nurses
can accomplish their role in patient care through the use of information structure, process, and
technology (Darvish, Bahramnezhad, Keyhanian & Navidhamidi, 2014).
Futuristic benefits:
Some responsibilities that nurses and midwives can achieve quickly with the help of nursing
informatics are:
It improves medical workflow and clinical efficiencies by assessing the gaps in the care
delivery processes.
With the help of informatics, nurses can communicate, manage, and interpret the data and
information related to the patient.
Overall clinical reasoning procedure can be accelerated using informatics and
enhancement of the care facilities is observed.
Implementation of nursing informatics plays a crucial role in the promotion of healthcare
system, advancement of the care system, and improvement of the digital network and
internet facilities.
Why training is essential:
Hence, any healthcare system needs to provide and arrange several workshops and training
programs, respectively, in order to educate and enhance the informatics skills of nurses.
Informatics skills are essential for the interpretation of the information and data related to the
patient care processes ("The Difference Between Health Care and Nursing Informatics", 2018).Electronic Health Record system:

In order to satisfy the need for improvement of the quality in the nursing care system, it is
essential to establish an electronic health record (EHR) machines in any healthcare sector. An
EHR system is an electronic information system in which nurses and other medical professionals
can store crucial medical history of the patient, and by using this system, nurses do not need to
carry the prescription or care plan hardcopy and files when shifting patients from one unit to
another.
Importance of EHR:
There are several roles that an EHR machine can play at a time. It reduces the workload of
nurses and enhances the speed of overall treatment procedures. Lack of EHR machine
installation is indicative of falling behind in the race of medical care provision. The EHR
machine reduces human errors, and it is more accurate and reliable when compared with human
documentation system. Nurses can spend more time in providing the care procedures to the
patients as they can minimize time consumption in files arrangements.
The EHR system can generate a diagnosis table through which nurses and professionals can
input systemic diagnosis information along with time. Default helper function software of the
EHR machine parses data from the medical dictionary. A hash key system has been installed
within the machine to make it easier to find the patient's admission ID. The EHR system not only
records valuable medical information but also processes these data towards medical care
modeling (Xiao,Choi & Sun,2018).
Types of EHR:
Two kinds of an EHR system are available in the market, which is the original version and
cloud-based (Baumann, Baker & Elshaug, 2018). The original version of EHR application can be
used for limited and stable stakeholders and patient population. But for more prominent
approaches of medical services cloud EHR system would be the best option for the practitioners
and nursing staff. Cloud-based EHR system provides more flexibility to the care professionals.
Not only that, with the help of cloud-based EHR system nurses and other medical professionals
can access the patient's information even when they have shifted their duties to the other units or
other health centers.

Benefits of EHR that may impact to client care:
Some benefits which are associated with the electronic health record application are:
Security: the system protects data with password security
Transcription: it has speech recognition software which can identify the voice of stakeholders
Patient portal: with the help of this portal system patient can fill up the forms easily
Reporting: nurses can add data about the daily reports of the patient’s health condition
Patient recognition: once a patient registers his portfolio with the EHR system, he needs no
further identification during repeated visits (McGonigle, Hunter, Sipes & Hebda, 2014).EHR system will be changed in next five to ten years:
EHR system plays a key role in storing confidential data of patient and professionals in the
healthcare sector. Improvement will be observed in security and privacy over next five to ten
years. Security will be the top priority which has been maintained by the EHR system in order to
reduce data breaching in healthcare sector.
Integration of telehealth process in the EHR system will be observed in next five to ten years.
Telehealth can enhance the care facilities in the health sector. Patients can be linked with their
doctors remotely. Development of organic level of telehealth integration can be observed in next
five years. Use of telemedicine equipments will be maximized in future which can enhance the
intercommunication system in the healthcare sector.
The use of EHR system will be continued in future and it will be in an enhanced format for
greater amount of positive outputs. The use of this system will be available in the mobile
computing system in near future.
Conclusion
Hence, it can be concluded that electronic health record system, a part of nursing informatics is a
breakthrough invention in the information technology system as it enhances the use of nursing
informatics processes in most of the healthcare sector. The nursing informatics is essential to
strengthening the effectiveness of the patient care system, clinical decision-making processes,

and the nursing education system. Thus, training and education are equally crucial for operating
the electronic health record system for nursing practices.
