In health care system, data are the raw facts and considered the fundamental cognition
components on which the baseline constructs of health care facilities and services are
dependent. Data are considered the common denominators; they are often provided by the
patients and their families and can be electronic facts and attributes. Interpretation of these
facts and attributes are stored in databases to promote safe storage through attaching clinical
meaning to them (McGonigle & Mastrian, 2014). These then transform the data into
information. Clinical interpretation through application of conceptualized approach by the
responsible person through a person al perspective incorporates knowledge which is the
continuum of flow (Ronquillo et al., 2016). Thus it can be clearly said that, the most
abundantly occurring raw resources are the data which lay the foundational platform upon
which the information and knowledge are constructed. Data to information to knowledge
involve a hierarchical pyramid.
An example of this can be explained from my practice in hospital settings where
patients are tested for the presence of RBC as a proportion of blood. The women are
prescribed to undergo haematocrit test to determine the RBC proportion in blood. The
proportion of RBC among women, for example, 32 percent denotes the data fact. Interpreting
this value suggests that the proportion of RBC as 32 percent is below the normal range for
women population; this is the information obtained through meaningful interpretation
(Ronquillo et al., 2016). Evaluating this value with the prognosis of any disease such as
increased risk for anaemia denotes the inclusion of conceptualised con text which is
knowledge.

Nursing Informatics is incorporated among health care in which the nurses perform
their efficient role in integrating the nursing practice, computer and information technology
to communicate data, information and knowledge to the patients and their families thereby
promoting improved health care delivery (Tyler, 2017). The nursing professionals are core
members responsible for information processing and contribute to patient safety. The practice
of nursing informatics are crucial to information processing and access to patients such that
they are available to patients and families during their involvement in decision making
(Schneider, 2014). Health informatics allows for communicating meaningful patterns of
clinical information in compliance with best available care practice and improved decision
making procedure. The raw pieces of data are stored into databases which is termed as
information, this involves technological security. The cumulative data collected from patients
are processed to generate information; these are stored in technological databases with safety
and security which can be retrieved anytime and knowledge is incorporated to provide a
clinical analysis and evaluation of the practice (Schneider, 2014). The inclusion of health
informatics in nursing improves the process of health care delivery through ensuring safety
and timely management of patients. The continued technological training and education in
compliance with technological up gradation of the informatics system in turn would help
further improvement of patient care delivery (Masters & Hughes, 2018). Newer patterns and
trends of information processing are extrapolated from the informatics system which allow
better diagnostic analysis. Thus informatics inclusion in health care and nursing practice
shows a beneficial trend in terms of health care quality and increased patient outcomes.
