Homework Assignment
AI Summary
This assignment provides a comprehensive response to the role of informatics in nursing education and professional practice. It highlights the necessity for nurses to develop competency in informatics systems to achieve high-quality patient care through efficient communication and information exchange. The paper emphasizes how informatics acts as a crucial communication medium, enabling the retention, storage, and transfer of clinical information. It also addresses the increasing demands of the transforming healthcare system in the US, where health information technology is essential for secure data exchange and improved patient care delivery. The integration of informatics is shown to increase transparency, efficacy, and better clinical decision-making, ultimately reducing medical errors. 1INFORMATICS RESPONSE
Response 1
In nursing profession, it is imperative to include informatics in nursing education and
professional nursing practice. Nurses are required to achieve professional roles through
developing competency in informatics system. Nursing goals to achieve high quality patient
care involve the use of efficient communication and information exchange and cooperation
with health care colleagues. The nursing practice and efficient care delivery to patients
involve communication and sharing of information as the core requirement to achieve high
patient outcomes (Lin et al., 2014). Nursing education therefore needs to be at a high level to
promote effective communication and relay of critical information between health care
colleagues. The advancement of health care treatment options through incorporating high
throughput technological equipments requires that the nurses become efficient in
computerized system operation and informatics skills in order to allow a smooth flow of work
within the hospital settings; this will minimize the medical errors that occurred previously
(Huston, 2013). Informatics act as a communication medium in nursing professional practice
to provide retention, storage and transfer of clinical information for increased patient
outcomes (Lin et al., 2014). The increased organisational impact of nursing on health care
delivery must establish effective information systems and therefore developing informatics
competency in health care delivery is imperative to promote efficient professional
performance in nursing.
Response 2
The transforming health care system in US with increasing patient population
demands for high accuracy and quality of care delivery. The health care institutions are often
connected in order to promote a global care management approach through sharing of care
template plan. It is demanded by the patients that their health status and other medical details

should be kept securely maintaining confidentiality. Since this one application system method
would not reach the desired outcome, it is required to include health information technology
to allow appropriate interactive systems in disparate or remote areas, thereby allowing
exchange of medical data in remote areas which would save time and increase efficiency of
treatment (Middleton, 2014). The health care technologies are linked with patient EHR data;
a level of complexity is involved in data transfers. Therefore, the information technology
systems would provide a seamless method of data transfers in health care, thereby enabling
efficient and faster patient care delivery. Informatics in health care system would increase the
transparency and efficacy of care delivery, reduce health related disparities. The inclusion of
informatics would allow nurses to develop a smooth workflow system with all the clinical
and critical data being recorded in computerized systems (Kreuter et al., 2013). The
informatics input would enable the nurses to offer a better clinical decision making ability
with maximum reduction of medical errors.
