Homework Assignment
AI Summary
This document presents a student's solution to an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) assignment. The assignment addresses three key areas. The first part focuses on designing software with accessibility in mind, specifically for blind and visually impaired users, and colour-blind users. It emphasizes user experience and suggests controls, patterns, and text labels to improve usability. The second part explores Green ICT, discussing ways to reduce an organization's carbon footprint through practices like turning off computers, managing power plans, and using energy-efficient devices. The final section distinguishes between projects and processes within the context of computer and house building, and Windows upgrades. It explains that projects create new entities, while processes involve repetitive value creation.

Response to Question 1
Designing software for blind and visually impaired
It is important to ensure a good user experience. Therefore, to assist the clients who
are blind or visually impaired, it will be important to make it sure that the software and the
applications use the same kind of controls to interact with the low vision user (Johnson 2013).
To provide the best blind user experience, it is required to have a similar approach like that of
the visually impaired users (Patterson and Hennessy 2013). There should be a button type
control for the blind users. The segmented controls and data pickets are required to be
adapted in order to meet the low vision user requirements.
Designing software for clients who are colour blind
The most common type of colour blindness includes the Deuteranopia and the
Protanopia. To improve the accessibility the patterns and the textures should be heavily used
as it will help them to differentiate between two segments. In addition to it, text labels should
be added to the segments to make them understand. A simple usability update to include
icons should be incorporated in order to improve the accessibility (Fairchild 2013). User
experience can be further improved with the involvement of underlining the online links
using larger sized and weighted fonts for the primary buttons and marking the must form
field with a symbol.
Response to Question 2
To make effective contribution to the environment with the organisation, it is
important to move towards a Green ICT approach. Green ICT can be made effective by
reducing the carbon footprint of the organisation (Anthony and Majid 2016). Three ways
through which ICT can be used to reduce the carbon footprint includes turning off the
computers when not in use, managing the PC power plan and using greener equipment or

devices (Klimova et al. 2016). Turning off the computers can seriously reduce the carbon
emissions of the company. It can also be achieved by effectively using a PC power plan and
monitoring the consumption. Greener equipment or devices have a minimal carbon emission
than the normal devices.
Response to Question 3
From the provided information it can be seen that building a computer, on a
production line of identical computers and building a house, as one of a series of identical
houses all over Australia are the projects whereas upgrading a computer from Windows 7 to
Windows 10 and upgrading all 120 computers from Windows 7 to Windows 10 are the
processes.
It is due to the reason that a project is generalised as creating something new or
implementing a change. On contrary to this processes are intended in the creation of the
values by performing the task in repetition. The first two points involve the projects where
building a computer and building a house will be done (Larson et al. 2014). These are
creation of new entities. The last two points involve the processes where the upgrading is
being done from Windows 7 to Windows 10 as these involve creation of the values through a
repetitive process. Building of a computer and the house are temporary in nature whereas
upgrading from a version of Windows to another is permanent.
