Case Study 1: From flying warehouses to robot toilets – five technologies that could
shape the future
Introduction
There are few significant applications of artificial intelligence, such as machine
vision, speech recognition and expert system (Russell and Norvig 2016). Artificial
intelligence could be easily categorized as strong AI or weak AI. A weak AI cannot provide
proper solutions to a user, however a stronger AI has the ability of finding solution without
subsequent human intervention (Nilsson 2014). The following report outlines a brief
discussion on the case study of five technologies changing future with details.
1. Explanation of the Five Technologies outlined in the Article
The five technologies outlined in the article are as follows:
i)
Smart Homes: This particular technology is a residence, which utilizes Internet
enabled devices for allowing remote control as well as management of the systems or
appliances like heating and lighting (Five Technologies. 2017). Moreover, there are door
locks, which allow proper programming through mobile devices. Security is highly enhanced
with this specific technology and expenses are reduced.
ii)
Virtual Secretaries: These secretaries provide automation to trivial tasks, however
in a time consuming manner (Bond and Gasser 2014). An example of such tool is doodle.com
that is responsible for comparing availability of people for finding the best meeting time.
There is a high chance that retention of people is possible with proper utilization of robots.
iii)
AI Doctors: The advancement in medicine has enabled AI to shape the future of
health care. AI was being trained with huge quantities of patient data for advising users in
going to emergency department (Five Technologies. 2017). A system would be developed for

outperforming the doctors to make diagnosis. The examples include Withings, Jawbone Up
and Fitbit and in future more success stories would be present for data driven initiatives.
iv)
Care Robots: These robots would could take care of elderly people at home and
could even interact with visitors for verification (Gasser and Huhns 2014). With involvement
of AI, these could even operate within uncontrolled environment.
v)
Flying Warehouses and Self-Driving Cars: Self-driving cars can reduce chances
of accidents and loss of human lives. Recently, Amazon has filed a patent for flying
warehouses for visiting places, in which demand for the products could be increased (Wenger
2014). Use of human labour would be reduced in this process.
2. The Technologies being a part of Our Future
Technology had been evolving in such a rapid speed that they would be resolving
kinds of issues effectively and efficiently (Li and Du 2017). There is ample scope for these
technologies in future and hence advancements in the communication technology could
easily comprise of a high impact on the lives of human being. The various procedures
majorly involve learning, reasoning and finally self-correction. These could easily influence
my career since there would high advancements in technology (Charniak et al. 2014). The
future application of AI ensures curbing of hackers and maintaining material costs or brand
image.
3. Personal Reflection of Artificial Intelligence influencing Career
I have learnt that artificial intelligence or AI can be referred to as the proper
simulation of human intelligence procedures through machines, mainly the computer systems
(Ghahramani 2015). Moreover, I would be able to get job opportunities from this technology.
With the help of robotic process automation, I would be able to emphasize over the critical
aspects during eliminating daily aspect to machine (Kanal and Lemmer 2014).

Conclusion
Therefore, conclusion could be drawn that the five technologies mentioned in the
article, viz. smart homes, virtual secretaries, AI doctors, care robots and flying ware houses
and self-driving cars are all major innovations of artificial intelligence. The above report has
outlined these five technologies with major details and their effects in future.
