2INFORMATION SYSTEM CONCEPTS
Introduction:
We are in a generation where everything surrounding us is technology. These
technologies stores a huge amount of information. These are the set of both structured and
unstructured data. Managing them with accuracy using the traditional system of databases was
difficult which is why Big-data was introduced in the business organisation. Big-data analytics
stores a vast amount of data, process them and stores them systematically. The health care
industries are mostly benefited as their tracked data from the wearable devices are stored
accurately with the help of Big-data which makes the diagnosis of the patient properly. Big-data
along with another tool, known as the business intelligence helps in strategic development of a
business (Kimble & Milolidakis, 2015). In the report we will discuss how fitness tracking
industry can be benefited with these technologies.
Big-data and fitness tracking:
The wearable technologies like the fitness trackers contains a huge amount of data
collected form the patients. All of these data can be stored as the electronic health record with the
help of the Big-data analytics. The user activities, intake of calories, exercise and sleep routine
everything are collected with the help of the tracking system (Dhaka & Johari, 2016). In fact the
users themselves can track their habits and take necessary actions for their betterment.
Benefits of Business Intelligence (BI):
The prime goal of the business intelligence is to deliver a smart business solution to make
proper decision for business organisation. Generation of proper reports can be obtained by the
usage of BI. The quality and accuracy of the data is better with the help of BI (Dedić & Stanier,
2016). It even reduces the cost of extra employees for doing so. Using Big-data analytics along

with business intelligence enhances the process of fitness tracking which in returns improves the
business of Fitness tracking.
Information system in marketing and decision making:
The Big-data collects data from the different application of the business and with the help
of the business intelligence those information can be used for decision making. All of these
technologies that are mentioned above falls under the category of the information system. Proper
analysis of the sales, inventory analysis and customer analysis can be obtained with the help of
the technologies. These analysis helps in providing a proper idea what the customers are
demanding, which sector of the company needs improvement (Bourgeois, 2018). These
technologies helps in processing information for the business so that the people in charge can
make decisions which will lead to the betterment of the business.
Conclusion:
Business Intelligence and the Big-data analytics in combination can develop a business
with usage of advanced technologies in the information system which can overcome the issues of
the traditional databases and software used by the business previously. The decision taken by the
authorities holds a lot of responsibilities towards the business, hence, implantation of information
technologies like the Big-data and Business Intelligence can be beneficial for the fitness tracking
business led by Karen.
