AI Summary
This project report details the design and implementation of an information system for Baippari Furniture, focusing on online ordering and customer interaction. The project incorporates a service-oriented architecture (SOA) to enable various services like online ordering, payment processing, and customer support through live chat. It also leverages cloud computing for cost efficiency and scalability. The system includes use cases for customer registration, product searching, order placement, payment, order tracking, and report generation. The report provides business process models, service models, and a cloud computing table to illustrate the implementation details. The goal is to provide Baippari Furniture with an integrated platform for online sales and improved customer service, addressing the challenges faced by the company in its existing operations. The solution also includes diagrams for understanding the system's processes and functionalities. Running Head: INFORMATION SYSTEM PROJECT MANGEMENT
Introduction
Information system management is a way in which people network with technology in
support of corporate processes. There are key approaches that have been used in the
implementation of the project and the functions they perform with regards to the project tasks.
This gives the customers / clientele a platform to give their feedback and complaints online and
get a response from customer service agents. Furthermore, it would enable the company Baippari
Furniture carry out their accounting functions on the system that we are developing. The system
will encompass the use of service and SOA in its solution delivery. Another important aspect
would be the cloud computing model that would be adopted in the implementation of the system.
This would enable us to reduce upfront costs and increase scalability through liaising with a
cloud service provider. Different services such as online ordering and payment will be provided
on the system. The project seeks to help Baippari Furniture to integrate their system to enable
customers purchase and order furniture online. This system also seeks to be able to address
customer transactions in an online form, through a web based application whereby customers can
transact with the company and interact with company staff in real time in case there is need.
Overview of the System
The system is expected to work by a customer first creating a profile by registration onto the
system. This makes way for the customer to be able to browse through the categories of furniture
that the company is offiering and to place their order. Thereafter, after the customer is satisfied
with what they want to purchase, they can check out by making a payment using their credit card.
The transaction is then captured through an order confiemation number after the staff of Baippari
Furniture confirm it; the order number being the principle point of reference in future

transactions. Thereafter, staff will pack the items in quantity as per the placed order and have
them delivered to the customer. In case something goes wrong with the order, the customer can
make reference to the order number. For instance, the wrong furniture may be packed, or it may
be defective, or it may fail to be delivered. The proposed system therefore provides a robust
system for online trading and communication for Baippari Furniture and its customers.
Use Cases
The use cases for the proposed system are discussed in the following sections. First, an overview
of the entire system is shown in diagrammatic form, then each use case is shown
diagrammatically and discussed.

Services and SOA
Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) refers to the architectural style based on the concept
of service that enables businesses such as Baippari furniture to have agility (Hodges et al, 2010;
976). Moreover, service providers and service consumers interact in a loosely coupled manner
through an independent interface contract. In this case, the concept of Service Oriented
Architecture (SOA) refers to the configuration of technology and organizational networks created
to fulfil the wants of customers and users of systems such as the one we are creating for Baippari
Furniture. The Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) will be offering this service for purchased
furniture to reach the customer and charge them for the full amount of goods and shipping costs.

Additionally, it would users, customers and administrators to create a profile ID on the system by
use of Google, Facebook or Email (Zhang & Boutaba, 2010; 16).
The second service provided by the system will be ‘customer chat’ this will enable a
client to type a text message that will be sent to a customer service agent. This will be complains,
inquiries and recommendations by the customers. This would be responded to by the customer
service agent who will give feedback to the customer in real time and then take up the
recommendations to system administrator for implementation.
In addition, the other service in line with concept of service will be that of online order
and payment service. The online order placement will include the service ‘add to cart’ that will
enable a customer order diverse number of furniture. Another service will be ‘proceed to
checkout’ service that will calculate the total amount to be paid by the customer for the goods
bought and payment will be received through integrated online payment systems. This service
will be provided on the system to help it perform its core function of an online purchasing system
for furniture.
SOA as a principled medium of managing the aforementioned services will be integrated
in the following way. SOA as stated earlier is an approach through which various services are
made available to a network. Services are provided to form systems through a relaying of
information call over the internet. Some of the functions of SOA is include the following, it
allows users to put together various factions of facilities from existing services to form
applications. In addition, SOA based computing packages functionalities is made into different
sets that are integrated into different software for various business domains. The SOA has two
major functions in terms of service. These are, Service provider this is the organization that gives
Document Page

access to one or more services that is carried by a system for other organizations to use.
Moreover, the second function of SOA is service consumer, this involves the locating of the
service data in the system registry and developing the required user components to bind and use
the service provided (Rosen et al, 2012; 226). Such services will be applied to enable users to
order and buy goods there must be a service provider for those services to render effectively.
Cloud Computing as a Delivery Model and Platform
Cloud Computing is a delivery model that enables a business to be able to outsource data
management and applications to a service provider (Mell & Grance, 2011; 208). The business can
then access its data on .Cloud computing can be applied on low upfront costs and increases
scalability of data fir an organization. Solutions under cloud computing applied in three diverse
means which are software as a service, infrastructure as a service and platform as a service.
Software as a service is a cloud computing can be applied in a model that involves users and
customers being given access to a software and databases. The cloud computing provides cloud
services that manages the infrastructure and the networks platform (Jageda &Modi, 2012; 878).
Additionally, the cloud provider installs the software and updates in the cloud and is easily
accessible by users.
The second model is platform as a service where the service provider’s role is to put in
place a computing platform such as hosting of a web server for a client. Finally, the last model is
infrastructure as a service, which involves the service provider actually hosting the physical
machines in a data centre environment. They only supply resources to the organization on demand
and are payed as per the resources they utilize.
