Case Study
AI Summary
This case study examines the impact of Information Systems (IS), particularly the Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI), on an organization's competitive advantage, focusing on DonahaueFavret Contractors. The study highlights the benefits and risks associated with implementing advanced technologies, especially concerning data security and potential job displacement. It emphasizes that while IS implementation can offer a competitive edge, organizations must address vulnerabilities such as data breaches and security issues arising from IoT devices and online activities. The analysis also considers the need for skilled personnel to manage these systems effectively, as well as the balance between technological advancements and potential financial or customer data losses. How does IS impact on their positioning for competitive advantage?
The world is in such a position that there is no surety of job market and nobody really has
idea of how the job market would represent to the general people in the year 2050 (Harari, 2018).
Everything is due to the fact that Artificial Intelligent has glued into the market and it has
revolutionized technology in such a way that computers are getting much smarter and much
faster than human beings. All the Artificial Intelligent implementation in the past few decades
have resulted a huge breakthrough in the world of science consisting of the life of people in
general as well as the social lives of people. DonahaueFavret Contractors, one of the leading
commercial contractors based in Louisiana, are now keen on implementing IoT in the business
processes. These are somewhat being extremely helpful to the organizations. However, they do
not understand that implementing Internet of Things or IoT and devices associated with them is
not designed to maintain security as a priority (Fichman, Dos Santos & Zheng, 2014). There has
been several researches conducted by different organization and it has been found that 80 per
cent of the organization implementing IoT does not possess secured systems for the applications
which may form a major reason for the security vulnerabilities that this kind of technology
possesses. Despite these flaws the organization of DonahaueFavret Contractors has been
planning on doubling the implementation of Internet of Things or IoT and Artificial Intelligent
within the business process. This has made it very difficult for the people in the organizational
environment to be absolutely sure about their own jobs in the near future. Often due to the
introduction of different advanced technologies in the business process, the concerned company
experiences downfall. Otherwise, it was expected that the company would exponentially rise in
profit as per the new business process. Therefore, it can be said that although Artificial
Intelligent in Internet of Things or IoT implementation has become a huge success it is not a

dependable fact that Information System or IS implementation within a company is absolutely
safe. Any kind of breach in the data, generated in an organization every day, has the potential to
disclose client data, which is confidential and should be kept under wraps (Morey, Forbath &
Schoop, 2015). The searching of relevant data through different search engines like Google and
Yahoo also makes an IS system vulnerable to data breaches and other security issues since IoT
implementation makes it easier to detect a person’s online activities. This becomes a threat to the
organization of DonahaueFavret Contractors since attackers can make out relevant patterns
within the data searching methods and form a threat to the IS system within the organization.
Thus, it can be stated from the above case study that, DonahaueFavret Contractors has
indeed embraced a huge risk regarding the implementation of Artificial Intelligent. This has
affected in the loss of financial data for the customers of the organization. It can be seen that
there has been an enormous amount of increase in the number of definitions for Information
Security in the latest times. Although, these systems are considered faulty, it still makes sure that
they can be of various uses in handling, disseminating and generating data; but they come with
general negative points as well. Since, the proper utility of Artificial Intelligence would result in
many people being terminated one by one there would be no person skilled enough to handle
these systems (Fichman, Dos Santos & Zheng, 2014). The handling of the system requires
adequate expertise and the IS system effectively helps in handling all the data generated within
the organization (Alsubaei, Abuhussein & Shiva, 2018). Therefore, it can be said that IS
implementation is a vulnerable process for the organization of DonahaueFavret Contractors but it
definitely has a potential to put the organization in a competitive advantage than its competitors.
