2INFORMATION SYSTEM PROJECT MANAGEMENT
1. Project Introduction, Aim and Expectation
This project is based on the development of a website and mobile application for Sydney
Cycle and Bike Selling that will enable them to enhance the business operations and reduce the
need for error-prone manual work.
The primary aim of the project is to deliver an internet based solution for the company so
that they are able to conduct their business operations online and also be able to reach more
customers without the customers having to visit the store. The website and the application will
also allow the company to enter the ecommerce market and sell products online, which is much
more efficient, effective and less time consuming than the retail sales.
It is expected that the project will be completed within 138 working days and an
estimated budget of $220,000.
2. Comprehensive Business Scenario and Client Information
Sydney Cycle and Bike Selling sells bikes and cycles to the customers through their retail
store. In the store, the customers come and try the bikes, select one for purchase, pay the amount,
receive the handmade bill and the bike and they leave from the store. The main business problem
in this scenario is that often various errors are generated during the making and recording of the
handmade bills. As a result, keeping accurate track of the expenses / income from the sales
becomes very difficult for the company. Another major business problem is that due to the slow
pace of the sales, the store often gets occupied by a number of customers and other potential
customers do not want to enter the shop and choose a different store resulting in loss of a
potential market.

Both these problems can be solved by the proposed website and application if they have
the following functionalities.
Online business portal for the company
Online portal where the customers can open their profile and view the bikes sold
by the company
A suitable interface with specific buttons for home page, products page, purchase
page, online payment page and others
Based on the functionalities, the architecture diagram for the proposed system is as
follows.

C. Approaches
There are a large number of project management approaches and the selection of a
particular approach is critical for determining the success of the project. Some of the choices of
project management approach for this project include waterfall, agile, scrum and others. There
are different deliverables of the project including hardware installation, website development,
mobile application development and others. Hence, the selected approaches for the project are as
follows.
Waterfall Approach – This approach will be used for the phases of the project that are not
within the execution phase. This approach will be suitable for planning and preparations as the
activities can be performed one after another in a sequential method.
Agile – This approach will be used for the development of the website. In this approach,
different phases are determined and iterations are to be performed until the final desired outcome
is reached.
Prototyping – This approach will be used for the development of the application as the
prototype of the application will be developed before the final version is developed and tested.
D. Deliverables
The final deliverables of the project include the following:
Computers and associated equipments
Internal server
Website for Online Business Operations
Application for Online Business Operations using Smart Devices
