Abstract
The organization of data according to a certain database model is referred to as database
design. Before embarking on the process of database design, the designer is supposed to
determine which data is to be stored in the database and how the data elements interrelate. In
addition, the database designer is supposed to determine data relationships and how data is
structured logically.
Introduction
Database is said to be a collection of data or information which is organized in such a
way that it can be easily accessed, updated, and managed. In a database, data is organized into
tables, rows, and columns so as to find relevant information. When designing a database, one is
required to gather database requirements for the database. This monogram will present a
database experience for an online portal for job seekers in the United States.
The stakeholders
The primary stakeholders of the online portal database were those individuals who
directly interact with the system. For this case the primary stakeholders are the employers, the
online portal system administrator, and the job seekers. The secondary stakeholders are those
individuals who do not interact directly with the online portal; these are the company executive
management. Other stakeholders are the tertiary stakeholders who are those individuals who are
affected by the failure and success of the systems these are the competitors, and investors. The
facilitating stakeholders; these were those individuals who were given the responsibility of
developing, maintaining and designing of the steps (Bārzdiṇš & Caplinskas, 2010) .

Stakeholders view of the database
From experience, one important aspect for any database design is to make choices.
During the design of the online portal database, one have to choose which data to store in what
table. The stakeholders’ view was to store every last piece of data but as database administrator
how one stores data in a database is usually determined by the organization uses data.
The business rules which were considered
During the design of this database, a business rule limits the values one can enter in a
field. For this database one of the business rules of the online portal is to interact only with users
who are within the United States. To achieve this, I limited the values into the COUNTRY Field
to the United States (Odendaal, 2015).
Resources used to come up with database requirements
Some of the resources which were required to gather database requirements were; the
context diagram tool and functional decomposition tool. Context diagram tool was used to define
database boundary and all the interacting entities. On the other hand functional decomposition
tool was used to provide a top-down view of the business processes.
How to manage an agile project
Agile projects use a short development cycle which are referred to as sprints. To manage
agile projects one need to have something that connects the developers of an agile project and to
what the project stakeholders want. Second, one need to understand top-level requirements
which allows clear integrated testing. (Umanath, 2014).
