INTRODUCTION
Hilton Hotel and Restaurant is worldwide brand. The founder of the Hotel is Conrad
Hilton. The Hotel is having the headquarter in McLean, Virginia, U.S.A. The number of location
of the Hilton is 586 (as per 2018). The parent company of the Hilton Hotel is Hilton Worldwide.
The hotel is also in UK and operating successfully(Rodriguez, Peterson. and Krishnan, 2018).
The meaning of Information Technology is studying how to use the systems, retrieving the
information and sending the information. In the study the role of information technology is
discussed along with the advantages and disadvantages of IT is discussed in detail. Various
issues and also various network related with IT is also discussed in detail.
LITERATURE REVIEW
1. The role of information Technology in success or failure in organisation context
According to the Benitez, Ray. and Henseler, 2018, advancement in the technologies
(IT), the mode of communication have become much cheaper. Email is a major source of
communication now a days in which each employee of the Hilton is informed via emailing.
Marketing can also be done by email. There other tools as well for the communication such as
video conferencing in which the audience with may be the employees of the Hilton or the
customers of the Hilton, informing about any particular topic which can be letting know them
how to use the machinery, how to install machinery etc. This have helped in making successful
Hilton by providing quick information and also cutting its cost of communication. Earlier the
mode of communication was very rigid in which the employees of the Hilton were
communicated physically. The sophisticated approach of IT have converted this issue into
effective and efficient way.
As per the author Rajaraman, 2018 ,IT have also helped the customers by quickly solving
the queries of the customers of Hilton. IT captures every interaction which Hilton has with its
customers by CRM. If the customer wants to make purchase of any item then also the customer
will directly call on the toll free number and will inform about the purchase and the customer
support team of Hilton will immediately help the customer. CRM is also helpful for the purpose
of marketing in which the customer is pinched by regular contacting the customer for the sales
purpose. This have helped in the success of the Hilton by increasing the sales of the Hotel. If the
customer is satisfied then the sales of the Hilton will automatically increase and this will result in
higher revenue generation. Earlier it was not so and there was lot of time involved in the

communication with the customer and resolving the issues of the customers and which used to
result in loosing the customers but due to the IT it all changed.
According to the Chuang. and Huang, 2018, Inventory management system have resulted
in the success of Hilton by using the point of sale machine in which the inventory when sold
automatically reduces from the system stock. The Data management system of the IT contributed
in the success of the Hilton by storing the data online and tremendous amount of data can be
stored via this software. Earlier it was not so and the Hilton have to maintain large data on paper
which used to have various risk such as loss of fire of the data, tearing of paper, etc.
2. Ethical and Social issues related with running of a business.
According to the author Rodriguez, Peterson. and Krishnan, 2018, Hacking of the website
is a ethical issue which can happen with Hilton anytime. Hacking of a website can result in
stealing of the confidential data by the hackers. The hackers can hack the username and
password of Hilton and misuse the information for the personal benefit. The hackers can also
hack the information related to the credit card of the customers which is already stored on the
site of Hilton. The sensitive information such as business goals and business inside of the Hilton
can also be staled by the hackers. In order to resolve this issue Hilton Hotel must update its
system on regular basis and must also have strong antivirus in order to do smooth running of the
business.
Non compliance of IT laws is also an ethical issue which if not followed by Hilton can
result in high penalty and also cancelling of licence of doing business online. Non compliance of
IT laws is a criminal activity and also known as civil wrong. There are various IT laws in UK
and some of them are SaaS agreement, in this agreement the Hilton must have the licence to
operate the software, SLA agreement in which Hilton must have hosting for the website in which
the premium plans are covered such as protection of the data of the Hilton during disaster,
backup of the data, etc.
According to the Kayikci, 2018, Cyber bulling is a social issue which includes, the toll
free number is available on the website of Hilton then anyone can call Hilton and do bullying.
The website can also face some terrorist attack threats by the terrorists. There is also possibilities
of regular harassment activities by regularly send the threat of harming messages, doing any
online activity which makes the owner of Hilton unsafe. This is known as Cyber Stalking. This

problem can be resolved by putting option in the toll free number by which the identity of the
caller is identified.
According to Piercy,2018, thePrivacy issue is also a social issue in which the privacy in
the form of physical location of the Hotel is known to all of the person doing online search of the
Hilton Hotel. Terrorist also can visit the hotel and harm the premises of the Hotel. Any one can
use the name of the hotel and do advertisement in the name of the hotel and this will spoil the
name of the Hilton as the one who is using the information of the hotel fails to meet the needs of
the customer can result in spoiling the goodwill. This problem of Hilton Hotel can be solved by
using the software in which the details of the one who is copying the website and doing business
in the name of the Hilton can be easily gathered and again the Hilton can profitably run the
business.
3. identification as well as differentiation of different technologies
According to Piercy,2018, the author There are various technologies can here for the
study the following technologies are taken such as:
LAN, also known as Local Area Network covers a small geographical area. LAN consist
of interconnected workstations and also computers which are capable and efficient in sharing the
data on the devices such as printers, scanners and other devices which supports storage.
MAN, Metropolitan Area Network is similar to the LAN butt covers the entire area of the
city. The MAN is made of multiple LANs by connecting the multiple LANs. MANs are pretty
much efficient and are cable in providing fast communication because of the high internet speed
by using the fibre optic cables.
According to McLafferty. and et.al, 2018, the WAN, it is also known as Wide Area
Network. As the name suggest the WAN covers wide geographical area. The wide geographical
areas are covered by connecting multiple LANs as well as MANs. WAN implementation can be
done by private network or the public transmission system.
SAN is the Storage Area Network is a secure data transfer network in which the data is
transferred quickly. SAN makes the storage devices accessible to several servers. It eliminates
the traditional bottlenecks of the servers.
The differentiation between various networks is as follows:

Hotel Hilton must use the WAN network in order to cover the large area. The network is
best suited for the Hilton because hotel is spread across various regions in UK. The network will
help the Hotel by connecting more and more employees as well as customers.
ANALYSIS AND DISCUSSION
There are positive as well as negative sides of investing in the IT and are as follows:

The investment in IT by the Hilton Hotel will reduce the cost of operation and which will
increase the profits at higher rate. Cost reduction will make available funds which can be
invested somewhere else by the Hilton Hotel(Nagy. and et.al, 2018). By cost will be reduced by
less marketing expenses, salary expenses, travelling expenses etc.
Investing in IT will help in reducing the time involved in delivering of the products by
the Hilton. Reduction it time will help in performing more task at less time. The operating
activities related to conveying information, accounting, selling and marketing will take less time
because of investment in IT.
Increasing in the productivity will also be taking place because of the investment in IT.
Due to which the employees will be able to do the work more effectively and efficiently. This
can be done by investing in the IT software, updating the software, adding the extension to the
chrome, organisation of time with the application of calender, managing the passwords
effectively, etc.
IT investment will give competitive advantage to the Hilton and the hotel will be able to
know more effectively the needs and wants of the customers(Alayis, Abdelwahed. and Atteya,
2018). This will make the Hotel driver the product according to the needs and wants of the
customers. This will make the organisation more profitable and more successful compared with
the competition.
The disadvantages are as follows:
IT involves high investment due to this lot of organization keep avoiding the investment in IT. It
can effect Hilton Hotel because the Hotel have to manage it year on year. If the company is
unable to produce profit in any of the year then it will drastically effect the goodwill of the
Hilton(Benitez, Ray. and Henseler, 2018).

There is also a high maintenance cost in which Hilton has to update the software again
and again. The Hilton have to also buy the licence to operate software. The cost of the software
can be very high.
High skill employees are required for the IT operations. This can cost the company by
paying high salaries to the employees honed with high skill(Rajaraman, 2018). So in order to
prevent from the investment in IT Hilton Hotel can save lot of cost.
FINDINGS
As per the study it is founded that there is a huge role of Information Technology in the
success of Hotel Hilton. Because usage of Information Technology can result in reduction in
cost, time effectiveness, increasing the productivity, meeting the needs and wants of the
customers(Chuang. and Huang, 2018). It is also found there are some issues and negative sides
of using the Information Technology and are cyber bullying, hacking, safety and security and the
cost of investing in IT. Irrespective of all these factors Hilton must investment in the information
technology in order achieve maximum result.
CONCLUSION
From the above study it can be concluded that there are multiple benefits of Information
Technology. In-spite of various benefits Hilton must take of following the lT laws. Hotel Hilton
must also take care of the negative impacts of the Information Technology by updating the soft
wares on regular basis, by making proper planning for the budget of the Hilton to do investment
in the Information Technology. There are various networks available for Hilton so the hotel must
choose the appropriate network for contacting.
