This study will be based on the Hilton hotel the uses the technology to manage all the
information regarding different functions within hotel. This is an leading hospitality industry
which provides variety of services to people. Hilton hotel basically deals with room as well as
food facilities for visitors. the help in Understanding the use of computer terminologies and it
will also help in understanding the growth of Internet telecommunication in order to exchange
the data from one place to another. This report will also define different stages in which system
development occurs. The research will also help in understanding the social and ethical issues
experienced in Information technology. The study will also focus towards identifying the
different types of networks and it also help in understanding the role of Technology in managing
all the activities.

promotes fair ethical, equitable and responsible practices (Laconi, Tricard and Chabrol, 2015).
Various ethical issues are affectedly the emergence of the information technology such issues

In this technological world all the communications and exchange of information can be
done through the use of information technology. Although, such data and information may
contains the confidential and private data. This is one of the most common ethical issues which
causes long term impact on the businesses. Data and information need to be protected from the
unauthorised access because lack of privacy may result in data loses and thefts which will cause
long term effects on individual as well as organisation.

This can be termed as the legal practice which is created by the law of country and which
helps in granting the rights to use and distribute the original work of the specific firm. Exclusive
use of technology in the world have arrived a major issue which have exploited the patent and

confidential information is constantly at risk. IT provides the sites which contains the credit card
details seems like an public activity which could be a clever scam designed by the hackers in
order to perform fraudulent activities. So this ethical issue is also considered as the necessary
activity which allows consumers to protect themselves during using the third party payment
services.

communication and also provided various ideas of exchanging the data and information. There
are several different types of computer network which may be categorised on the basis of their
purpose and size. Network can connect anything which comes under the geographical area or

bandwidth within a specific range of network. IT have connected the people with the world
using the technique of internet (Reinau and et.al., 2016). Large number of people are connected
together in order to consume online booking facilities of Hilton hotel, it may be in the form of
wireless or wired technology. So in order to exchange the data and information, technology have
used the concept of networking which can be categorised in the following types:
PAN (Personal area network)
This network mainly provides the interconnectivity within the single building. A PAN
network basically includes one or more computers, telephones, peripheral devices and other
personal entertainment devices etc. this could be typically used in the residence that provides the
single wired internet connection that is basically connected to a modem. This network is
generally managed by a single devices but it can be accessed by any devices which comes in the
shortest range. This can also be called as HAN (Home area network). It allows to send the
document to the printer which is physically present at another floor of the same building,
uploading the photo from cell phone to the desktop computer.
LAN (Local area network)
This network consists of computer network at a single site which is mainly useful for
sharing the resources such as data resources, printer etc. these networks do not contains the
expensive hardware such as Ethernet cables, hub, network adaptor etc. Hilton hotel uses the
LAN network to share the information about the food ordering and pre room booking orders of
the customers. Smallest LAN connection may only connect two computer networks while larger
LAN may connects thousands of computer networks. This network may be further categorised as
wireless and wired LAN (Taylor, Fritsch and Liederbach, 2014). This network possess Low cost
and high speed internet connection to the connected devices.
WAN (Wide area network)
This network generally occupies large area in which may includes the connected devices
of the entire country. This can be considered as the collection of various small networks that are
connected to form a Local Area networks.
MAN (Metropolitan area network)
MAN consists of computer networks which provides connectivity to the entire city,
collage campus or generally small regions. This network is mainly depended on the

configuration that can be created after connecting many LANS together top form a metropolitan
area network. Sometimes it can also be referred as CAN ( campus area network)

activities which are basically the part of the operation. These operational activities are related
with the production of goods and services in hotel. These responsibilities are directly linked with
the management process which embrace design, planning, controlling, performance
improvement and operational strategies which are adopted by the managers of the Holton hotel
for the sustainability and growth of the organisation. Information technology plays very
important role in managing the business as it involves in expanding the businesses activities all
over the world (Scheerder, van Deursen and van Dijk, 2017). Various roles which are played by
IT in management are described below:
 IT helps the managers in improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the business
process, improves managerial decision-making and team work collaborations etc.
 This also helps the managers by providing various innovative ideas to strengthen the
business activities for the sustainability of the company for the longer run.
 IT helps the managers in strengthening the position of the company by adopting the
rapidly changing environment which deals with the establishment and growth of the
organisation.
 Information technology also helps in providing various tools for business which provides
various techniques to deal with the challenges of the business management.
 It also helps in developing the Business tools that supports the automated work in the
company (Sharmaand Misra, 2017).

 Hilton Hotel uses Online cloud facilities to secure the confidential data and information
of the Hotel. This information may include accounting, sales, purchasing and profits/loses
incurred by the hotel.
 On the other hand, Security manager of the Hilton hotel may find it difficult to protect the
information from the unauthorised access.
 The IT software which was designed by the IT manager of the Hilton hotel have not
properly tested the software which leads to the long-term effects as the data and private
information of the company is lost.

From the above study it has been concluded that Information technology have
transformed the way of exchanging the data and information and it has also provided various
business tools. Emerging technology in the world has replaced the human related efforts with the
automated machines. This allows convenient platforms in order to perform the different business
operations. This study has created a complete understanding about the concept of Information
technology. This report had also provided various ethical and social issues which are arrived
due to the use of Information technology in the world. The research has also focussed in
providing the different types of networks and impact of the internet on business as well as
business perspective. It has also created a complete understanding about the Phases which are
involved in system development life cycle.
