INTRODUCTION
Innovation is the cornerstone of success as it helps individuals create new and unique products or
services which can be used for supporting economic social and technological growth. The scale
of innovation is one of the most demanded skills in the current labour market because innovation
helps business firms overcome challenges and avoid crisis by developing innovative products
and services (Albert, 2019). It is also important that employees and students develop their
innovative skills and knowledge during their higher education so that they have better chances
for achieving their career ambitions. This discussion paper looks at personal skills related to
innovation and innovation knowledge gained during this module. Apart from this areas for
future improvement are also identified in this discussion paper for improving overall innovative
skills.

Innovation Skills
 Creative Thinking Skills: Creative thinking skills are considered important the
requirements for developing innovative skills and knowledge. Creative thinking skills
are defined as the skill which helps individuals intentionally gain new insights and
different ideas through existing information. The ability to imagine new scenarios and
solutions for various problems is a part of creative thinking skills of an individual. It
helps individuals look at things from new perspective and develop original ideas related
to professional work artwork or any other area. Creative thinking skills can be developed
easily by practice. In context of my personal level of creative thinking skills I have
medium level creative thinking skills. This is because I am not able to quickly develop
new and original ideas and getting inspired to develop creative projects or work in
creative fields such as art is a slow process for me.
 Strategic Thinking skills: The next important skill for developing innovation is critical
thinking skills because it helps individual utilize logic for understanding the practicality
of their creative ideas (Alrowwad and Abualoush, 2020). It is important to develop a
sense of practicality when it comes to innovation because oftentimes the ideas or creative
imaginations which are produced by individuals cannot be easily or viably applied in the

real world. Critical thinking skills are defined as the ability to conduct objective analysis
and evaluation of an issue in order to form unbiased judgment. Critical thinking skills
support innovation as individuals are able to analyses their own decision-making as well
as different aspects of their innovation to come up with the best ideas which can be
implemented easily into practical word. Another advantage provided by effective critical
thinking skills is that individuals are also able to interpret and evaluate others opinions
and we find this so that best decisions are made with respect to their innovation. In
context of my personal between thinking skills the level of proficiency in critical thinking
is low and I need to improve this immediately. Improving critical thinking skills will help
me when it comes to innovation or professional pathways (Anning-Dorson and et. al.,
2017).
 Problem Solving Skills: Problem solving skills are a must have when it comes to
improving inventiveness and innovation level of an individual. This is because effective
problem solving skills helps individuals come out of any challenges while creating
something innovative. Problem solving skills of an individual play an important role in
developing the ability to persevere even when the innovator has faced various failures.
This is because problem-solving helps individuals maintain their motivation to attain
their innovative objective through continuous improvement and finding solution to
various barriers. Problem solving is also beneficial because it helps look for solutions in
the right places so that time is not wasted while implementing or developing an
innovative idea and successful results are attained within the given time. In context of
my personal problem solving skills I have effective problem solving skills because I am
able to find solutions for various problems rather quickly which helps me overcome
barriers in delivering various goals as per given time.
Innovation Knowledge
Innovation knowledge involves knowledge about various theories related to innovation and
enterprise ownership such as the innovation funnel. In addition to this knowledge about various
types of innovation and innovation is also essential for improving capabilities to develop
innovation and effectively implement them a business market (Fontana and Musa, 2017).
Knowledge about commercialization of innovation is also helpful for individuals to exploit their
innovative products or services and gain a profit from this sale in the industry.

Areas for improvement
The primary area where I need to improve is my creative thinking skills because they
form a foundation for building innovation skills in the future. I need to accomplish this by
ensuring that I engage with different types of creative activities such as making art or writing
fictional stories. In addition to this brainstorming regularly about various creative ideas which
can be applied in my profession will also help me improve my innovation skills and creative
thinking skills.
In addition to this I also need to improve on my critical thinking skills be critical thinking
skills are essential for developing successful innovation and innovative products instead of
simply putting forward innovative ideas which are not useful or viable for the real world. The
main pathway for improving critical thinking skills is to learn about logical reasoning including
detective and inductive reasoning. Critical thinking are needed for introducing successful and
competitive innovation (Fontana, 2019).

CONCLUSION
From the above report it is determined that the primary skills needed for developing innovation
are critical thinking still problems on the skills and creative thinking skills. In addition to this
knowledge about various innovation theories such as innovation funnel and classification of
innovation are also used when you just for improving their innovative capabilities. It is important
that university level students are able to reflect on their innovations in so that they are able to
take up suitable action for improving various skills and developing innovative capabilities.
