AI Summary
This report, submitted by Abdullah Duman for the 6TE501 Innovation in Sustainable Engineering Design module, investigates the adoption of Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) technology within organizations in the United Kingdom. The introduction highlights WSNs as crucial tools for monitoring various environmental parameters, bridging the gap between the physical and digital worlds, and supporting operational management, particularly in the UK's construction industries. The report identifies key problems faced by construction companies, including process management, environmental monitoring, and machine maintenance. It then proposes WSN technology as an innovative solution, detailing its ability to monitor environmental conditions, ensure worker health, and prevent natural disaster impacts. The research further explores brainstorming as a successful innovation tool. The conclusion emphasizes the technology's potential to enhance business efficiency and resource management, summarizing the benefits of WSN technology in addressing industry challenges. References to key research papers are also included.

Title: Adoption of wireless sensor network technology in organisations, United Kingdom
Introduction
Wireless sensor networks can be understood as the actuator networks which are being used in a
group of specialized transducers which are having a communication infrastructure for the
purpose of monitoring and recording the conditions of the different locations and pass the data
collected to a main location with the help of a network. The parameters which WSN technology
monitors include the temperature, direction of the wind, humidity, pressure, speed, voltage in the
power line, level of pollutants, intensity of sound, vital body functions, illumination intensity and
intensity of vibration. The use of WSN technology is increasing in this fast changing world with
a purpose to establish a bridge between the real and the virtual worlds. It has provided great
support to the operation management of an organisation. WSN technology has been of great use
of the construction industries of United Kingdom.
Problems
There are various problems which a construction industry faces and for the issues or the
problems faced by these manufacturing industries include management of the process, lack of
techniques for detecting the level of pollutants in the environment, checking the water quality,
checking the air pollution, chances of natural disasters, lack of technology for ensuring health
care and lack of techniques for monitoring the machines of the industry. Every organisation
needs technology which helps in monitoring the environment, in which it is operating and
analysing the environment and various aspects of the environment so as to execute the activities
of the construction industry in a better manner (Kamenar, et. al., 2016). These problems affect
the performance of the construction company at large as the companies need to gather data
which is related to the location or the environment of the place so as to carry out the construction
activity in that locality. The construction industries are facing several problems including
analysis of the environmental conditions of the place, monitoring the machines of the
construction industry and to collect data which helps in the execution of the activities of the
construction industry (Cheng, et. al., 2016).

Solutions
The use of the wireless sensor network technology is an innovative technology which can be
used by the industries for the purpose of analysing the conditions of the environment and the
suitability of the location for the execution of the operations of the industry (Chang, et. al.,
2011). It provides solutions to the various problems faced by the construction industries and
these solutions include monitoring the management process, for ensuring the health of the
workers of the industry, monitoring the level of air pollution, detection of the conditions of the
environment, monitoring the parameters of the environment, monitoring the quality of the natural
factors and the resources required for the industries for their operations, prevention to the
construction industry from the ill effects of the natural disaster, logging the data, monitoring the
waste and monitoring the building and structure. These solutions help in enhancing the
performance of the business (Karvonen, et. al., 2014).
Research a Successful Innovation Tools
Brainstorming
Brainstorming is a short and rapid procedure that enables the development of new thoughts and
ideas. Potential problems are easier to identify and as a result resolutions to any potential
problems could be offered.

There are four basic rules in brainstorming as described by Osborn to increase creativity:
(Osborn, 1963)
No critique
Focus on quantity
Extreme ideas are welcome
Combine and improve ideas
How to brainstorm?
Choose the topic to present
Give yourself a time limit
Planning how you can record
Take notes what you will do with the data
Go through make sure that all clear
Conclusion
This program has been executed over the development of an innovative approach or technique
which helps in the increasing the efficiency of the operations of the business and management of
the resources of the business in a better manner. This program discusses the Wireless sensor
network technology which has been used for the purpose of monitoring the conditions of the
environment. The problems have been discussed which have given rise to the use of the Wireless
sensor network technology for the business. It also discusses the solutions this technology has
provided to the business for the purpose of dealing with the issues and the problems.
