1. Importance of information and IT in supply chain
Supply chain is associated with the products and information between the organizations
including suppliers, service providers and customers (Brandenburg et al. 2014). Information in
supply chain is the key to make any decision. Information Technology is important as IT
infrastructure provides competitive positioning of initiatives of a business (Serdarasan, 2013).
2. Uses of information by each supply chain driver
Supply chain drivers include: inventory, transportation, facilities, location and information
(Serdarasan, 2013). Information connects various drivers in a supply chain. Inventory uses
information to make a complete list of goods. Transportation uses information to consider entire
logical chain. In supply chain, information about location should be mentioned about where the
goods will be delivered. Satisfying customers has become a part of corporate obsession
(Govindan et al. 2014). Information is therefore a requisite in the ability of a manager to give
proper facilities.
3. Completion of Week 10 SCM Globe activities
Using larger trucks with more cargo carrying capacity provides door to door services and would
be able to carry a lot more weight faster. However, larger trucks may not be economical and may
involve high cost.
Transportation in supply chain uses freight trains. Unlike truck, trains are eco-friendly way of
transportation. Rail shipments can attribute in the development of supply chain as trains are
suited for shipping bulk products from the producer to the warehouse (Govindan et al. 2014).
If instead of making one big factory in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania one creates another factory
closer to the new stores then that factory can experience quick growth as the manufactured goods
can be required by the new store for their expansion. A larger turnover may result in profit for
the factory.
Making a factory and new warehouse laid emphasis on processing and transportation of goods to
customers. After the production, goods need to be carried to warehouse where the goods are

scanned and given an identification number. A new facility including a factory and a warehouse
will reduce such transportation cost and operating cost.
