INTEGRITY AND DIGNITY IN WORKPLACE
People often say that do your work with integrity without compromising your dignity.
It means that a person should stick towards moral values while not compromising with self-
esteem. The aim of this study is to analyze different influential factors of integrity and dignity
in human life and society.
I, being a lawyer, can understand and see the huge impact of these two words in my
professional and personal life. In my personal life, I always try to maintain my commitments
towards moral and ethical conducts, but in my professional field, it is hard to continue as my
professional ethics taught me to treat every client as innocent until the guilt is proved.
Nevertheless, I always try to find out the truth of the case from the client’s mouth and then
decide whether to continue with the case or leave it. I believe that one cannot ever live in
peace after the successful completion of a deceitful work.
Leadership is a practice by which a person with great governing qualities influences
other peer mates in achieving a fixed goal. It is important for a leader to maintain his or her
dignity and respect the dignity of other peer mates. A strong, capable leader increase the
confidence and enthusiasm of his or her team member by teaching them the way to protect
the integrity of a particular work. A leader must know how to deal with the existing problems
by taking an appropriate approach for mitigating the future risk. Influential leaders usually
interact with their team members with the view to share his expertise about the concerned
work and also communicate the requisite policies and guidelines to them. It can be seen that
different kind of appreciation from the team leaders help in the successful completion of
work (Alliger et al., 2015). A leader also acts as a morale-boosting entity in relation to
increase the productivity and quality of the team members (Powell, 2016). A good leadership

plan includes the strategy to increase the coordination between co-workers as unity between
members is necessary for a leader for their own existence as well as achieving targets.
In today’s world, almost every company intends to achieve and promote integrity and
dignity in the workplace. In spite of all these promotional activities, the meaning of integrity
and dignity is different to everyone. In a theoretical approach, integrity should try to bring
moral to work, and for this command free structure can be adopted by the management. In the
case of integrity, it is necessary for the management to be transparent about the policies and
decisions, so that employees can understand and adopt the values of the work. It is also
necessary to let the employees work with their values and without any pressure from the
management. Similarly, dignity in the workplace also got the value of utmost importance. In
cases of a dignified work relation, people stay away from taking unfair advantage of the other
employee in contrast with the hierarchical positions. Encouraging dignity at work helps in
reducing stress and health problems of the employees. It is important for every employer to
ensure the protection of the dignity of the workers in the workplace. However, in reality, the
scenario is different. One of the research showed that there is a lack in protecting the dignity
and integrity in the workplace from both the side of the employer and employee. For an
employer, the common abusive factors were providing overwork to the employee, abusing
the hierarchical power to complete a pending task, micromanagement. For an employee,
influential factors are substandard work, lying about mistakes, defaming peer mates, lying
about skills. It is evident that the work environment affects the quality of work. Therefore, it
is necessary to ensure these factors for the growth of an organization.
Integrity and dignity have a huge impact on the economic development of a company.
(Pels, 2017). The promotion and progress of dignity might require a typical organizational
culture (Schippel & Margolis, 2019). This can only be possible when an organization thrives
on creating responsible employees rather than focusing on meeting client deadlines. In the

recent trend to relink dignity and business (Kostera & Pirson, 2016), there exist many
prospects to engage more direct conceptual basis of dignity and its significance in the
business ethics research.
Nowadays, it is important to be self-aware about the existence of integrity and dignity
in the workplace and in life where people are selfish and do no good to others. It is a matter
of feeling. Dignity is a two-way process. We develop our self-esteem on the basis of our self-
dignity. It is like; we clothe and show it as our self-esteem to the outer world. In the case of
integrity, we must become the person whom we imagine. Authentic leadership starts with
self- awareness. A humble person is one who knows and can talk about their mistakes and
have the courage to rectify them.
Thus, it can be concluded that Integrity and dignity have a major impact on a person’s
life and work. Similarly, a company with the employees of rich moral and good quality helps
the organization to reach its peak.
