similar products or services. Internet is the thing through which people are misusing these
properties. This study explains legal acts related to IP and ways through which these legislation
protect IP on internet. It explains the concept of intellectual property and several types of IP
properties.

Background of the study
Intellectual property (IP) is the creation of inventions, literary, design or symbols.
Patents, trade marks, copyrights, registered designs are good examples of intellectual properties.
No one can use these properties without the permission of the owner (Thomä and Bizer, 2013). If
someone is using it illegally then owner has right to file case against the persons and claim for
compensation. Protecting IP has become the major issue now-a-days and many of the people or
firms are misusing internet for the same. In the modern competitive era mostly organizations are
using copyright for their designs so that no other firm can use this design. It helps them in
creating unique image in the mind of consumers and gaining competitive advantage (Ndofor,
Sirmon and He, 2015). Government has made many laws in order to protect intellectual
properties. Trade mark act 1994, The Patents act 1977, WIPO Performers and Producers Rights
Treaty (WPPT) of 1996, UWE IP policy etc. are many legal act that have been made so that
these properties can be protected. If anyone is breaching these rules then individual will have to
pay for the same.
Main purpose of current study is to identify ways through which these intellectual
properties can be protected on internet. In this respect concept of IP will be explained and issues
that are creating security threats will be described in this investigation (Boldrin and Levine,
2013). There are several laws that have been made by the government in order to protect these
properties, all this legislation will be discussed in the current study.

 To investigate issues that are creating security threats on internet to intellectual

Rationale
Now-a-days cyber crime is increasing day by day. People are using internet frequently.
Most of the small or competitive brands are using intellectual properties such as patents,
copyright material of any firm without their prior permission which is completely illegal (Celum
and et.al, 2014). It is essential to reduce such type of cases and it has become very important to
protect IP on internet. People are misusing internet to make them aware with the legal laws that
can protect their properties this investigation is carry out (Protecting Intellectual Property on
The Internet, 2017).
Significance of the study
Ways to protect intellectual property on internet is the burning issue (Andrés and Asongu,
2013). This investigation will be beneficial for the organizations those which are suffering from
illegal use of their properties. It will make them understand how they can protect their properties
on internet. This study will be helpful for people in knowing legislation and action that can be
taken against the wrong person (What is intellectual property?, 2017).
Ethical consideration
Researcher will involve human in the investigation in order to gather data related to
intellectual property. Researcher will take prior permission of them and will fill up the consent
form by them before asking questions to these respondents. Scholar will not copy the material
from any site, investigator will develop understanding by reading these articles and will write in
own word so that issue of plagiarism do not take place.
