The intellectual property is the intangible property which is created by the human to earn
profit. It is quit confused with the copyright and trademark terms. During the course plan, I
was acknowledged with the information that intellectual property is the creative work of
statement and innovation done by the individual. The accessing of the intellectual property
requires the assistance from the owner of the intangible asset. The use of moral principles and
ethical values are the backbone of developing innovative creations and statement of work by
the individual. I found that the legal laws and permission is required for using the intellectual
property. We can better understand the concept of intellectual property by taking an example
of piracy of movies and music albums. The downloading of the movies and video albums
from the internet is an illegal activity because the acknowledgement of permission is not
received from the owner of the music album. The music album is the intellectual property of
the director and producer so without their permission it is illegal to use the pirated audios and
videos. The plagiarism is another example of using intellectual property without the
permission of the authors.
From the research on intellectual property, I analysed that financial benefits and recognition
can be earned by the creator of the intellectual property by developing patent and
trademarking of the innovation. The copyright laws are created for accessing the innovative
and artistic work of the owner. The work which comes under the intellectual property are
categorised as books, painting, films, music albums, computer programs, and others. The
patent is the right given by the creator of the innovation to be used by the other users. It helps
in deciding the technical information which is required to be provided and which is not. The
trademarking of the invention and innovation helps in branding of their own. The
development of the trademark helps in increasing the market value of the invention. The
other user cannot make use of same trademark for branding their product.
It was a good experience on performing research on the intellectual property because it helps
me in distinguishing between the terms which are commonly associated with the IP such as
copyrights, trademark, and patent. I have also acquired knowledge about the protection
mechanisms which are commonly used by the organizations to preserve their innovative ideas
and intellectual properties. The legal protection should be given to the intellectual property of
the organization so that no other competitive enterprise access their innovation and deploy in
their curriculum. It is a criminal offence for using the intellectual property without the
permission of the owner. The patent of the intellectual properties helps in setting parameters
and boundaries to make the innovation public. The user can access the IP for the particular

period of time and within certain limits of using functionality of the system. The user can use
the complete system after the legal permission from the owner of the intellectual property. It
was a good research experience on intellectual property.
