The existence of DOE in a post-cold war world can be reviewed
The role of the security agencies in American perspective can be judged fewer than two
milestones; the first milestone is the failure at “Pearl Harbor” and second was related to the
“9\11” attacks. Both these attacks were well planned and paid maximum impact to the
security.
While having a look at this timeline of the inception of various agencies we find that
priorities or the threats over the national security prompted policymakers to come up with
specialized agencies to look after various aspects1.
The constitution of DOE was a big need at a time when the cold war was passing through the
phase of the creation of “Nuclear deterrence.” The past history of DOE tells us about two
achievements of this department; first, it came up with necessary injunctions to update
nuclear program of US to stay ahead in the race. Secondly, it facilitated an intelligence
network to detect the rise of certain unruly powers that were developing nuclear weapons 2.
The report that was emphasizing on Pearl Harbor failure indicates that the USA was unaware
of the military strength of their rivals. The biggest issue that came in existence after 9-11 was
related to the coordination and integration between CIA, FBI, homeland security and local
intelligence.
A department like DOE can be termed as a redundant department for two reasons; first, the

USA already holds the status of being the leader in the field of latest and sophisticated most
warfare technologies. Secondly, the pertinence of DOE also becomes less in a world where
all the major countries of the world are aware of the nuclear crisis. A well-integrated network
of CIA, FBI and Homeland Security can take care of Nuclear threat, a certain part of the
DOE can be amalgamated into this integrated system where they can analyze smaller but
deadly weapons where nuclear portability solution can develop a monster for the mankind
and USA.
