defined in terms of attraction, superiority, dominance as well as liking. Popularity is generally
decided by the mass population who when attracted towards something makes it popular by
spreading awareness about it. Examples of popular culture involves popular music of the
community, medium of entertainment, trends in fashion, advertising as well as television.

Culture Shock Experience
Culture shock is described as the situations and emotions of people when they
relocated into uncommon or new surroundings as well as conditions. The reactions of each of
us seems normal when visiting any new country. I have experienced a range of emotions
while I pursued MBA in Japan and difficulties in adapting to the foreign culture. The range of
emotions involved excitement, interest, frustration, depression as well as fear of unidentified
things.
Honeymoon
At the first stage, I was very excited to meet new people, make friends, curious, and
also anticipated about new and exciting experience. In addition to this, I also made my first
social contact with the people of host culture.
Hostility
The culture becomes confusing day by day, and I started feeling inferior to others.
The new systems were frustrating me every single day. As the high expectations made by
me remained unmet, I began to weep and complain my family about the bad situations which
I had faced in classrooms or at cafeteria.
Humour
I then become an explorer and assume responsibilities for my own adjustment with
the new culture. By now I had more balanced, and objective in my experience.
At Home
My language skills had improved noticeably as I felt easier to communicate with the
professors and fellow mates in Japanese language. Things are not same as before, as I have
developed more tolerance level.
For improving intercultural communication skills, it is better to avoid colloquialisms
and listen actively as well as observe what others are meant to say. Encouraging feedback, as
