INTRODUCTION
Communication is referred to the act of transferring knowledge and information from one
person to other person or from one group to another group. For maintaining an effective
communication, a sender, a receiver and message to be conveyed is needed (Mai and Hoffmann,
2014). This assignment is written in context with Jetwings hotel limited with is a hotel situated
in Sri-Lanka. This report will cover purpose and principles of different organizational
communications. Beside this, principles of effective communication to enhance
interdepartmental communication is discussed. At last, effective barriers to communication and
strategies to overcome them are mentioned.
MAIN BODY
Measures to increase inter-departmental cooperation
Inter-departmental cooperation is defined as a cooperation and communication among
more than two departments of a company. With the help of this cooperation, various departme
nts in Jetwings hotel limited can interact with each other properly due to which organizational
productivity will increase. There are different ways by which inter-departmental cooperation in
Jetwings hotel can be increase. Some of these measures that can be recommended to the manager
of concerned hotel are discussed below:
Cultivating empathy: In order to enhance cooperation in different departments of
Jetwings hotel, manager is required to develop a mutual understanding among employees
of different departments. This will benefits in smoother and effective cooperation due to
which difficult tasks of hotel will be performed in a unified manner (Jackson, 2014).
Developing a common language: Complex language and Jargon can isolate people of
different departments from one another. Due to this, interaction and communicating at
inter-departmental level became difficult. Managers in Jetwings hotel are needed to use
common terminologies so that risks of miscommunication among different department
can be reduced and cooperation can be increased.
Showing involvement in work of other departments: To assure that effective

interdepartmental cooperation that will benefits hotel in increased revenues and profits. As

Organisational Barriers- It is associated with the hierarchical structure of company
where different levels of management can acts as a hindrance in effective
communication. To overcome these hindrance and barriers, manager in Jetwings hotel is
required to avoid authoritative style for delegation. Due to this, employee engagement in
decision-making will increase. It will lead towards open communication among

reduced in a considerable manner. To implement this strategy desirably, workforce of
company is needed to properly listen what other employees are saying rather than only
hearing the conveyed message. Active listening includes listening with all the senses
along with giving proper attention to the speaker. This will help the listener in
understanding what speaker wants to convey. If listener will not give proper
consideration to the words said by speaker, it will results in ineffective conversation due
to which mismanagement of work can take place in Jetwings hotel and organisational
objectives will not be achieved in a proper manner (Kotz, Kozubowski and Podgorski,
2012).
Using simple language: Causal language and slang can creates a barrier in effective
communication in an organisation. Manager in Jetwings hotel is required to motivate
employees so that they can avoid using slang during their working hours. By using
simple language, confusions among employees and departments of firm can be
minimised. Due to this, it will be easier for employees to understand their work and
duties and confusion among departments will resolve. It will results in high inter-
departmental cooperation also.

communicate messages in a clear manner. Vagueness in information can results in
misinterpretation of data. Hence, manager in hotel is needed to convey information in a

Jetwings hotel for effective communication. If information will be given in a timely
manner, employees will listen to it patiently and properly due to which chances of

information will not be passed out in a timely manner, manager will face difficulty in
acknowledging employees about their work and duties. This can results in low
organisational productivity and less inter-departmental cooperation.

effective communication is needed by business organizations. It is important for departments to
