INTRODUCTION
Factors that are present in the internal and external environment of a business can influence the operations of the business organisation.
This report analyses the internal and external factors that can have an impact on MAC, which is a Canadian business organisation that
specialises in manufacturing cosmetic products and operates in the fashion industry. MAC is headquartered in Toronto, Canada.
Internal and External Factors Affecting MAC:
Internal factors are those factors that are under the influence of the
business organisation such as MAC and can be controlled by the
business organisation, whereas external factors are those factors that
are not under the influence of the business organisation and hence
cannot be controlled by the business organisation at all.
There are numerous external factors that can have an impact on the
operations and functions of MAC within the fashion industries. These
include the political, technological, legal, social, economic and
environmental factors present in the external environment that MAC
has absolutely no amount of control over. For example, when new,
innovative and valuable technological solutions are present in the

impact on MAC.

initiatives of MAC, in which MAC tries to make use of operational
processes and raw materials for their cosmetic products that are
highly environmentally friendly and optimum use of natural
resources, this having a positive impact on the preservation attempts

NOTES:
Internal and External Factors Affecting MAC:
Should the leadership and management of MAC decide to install and incorporate the new technological solutions such as
new and innovative manufacturing machines and equipment into the manufacturing operation of MAC, then this external
factor has a significantly positive impact on the operational performance and efficiency of MAC, allowing for the business
organisation’s manufacturing operations to be conducted at an enhanced rate, while making the most optimum use of
organisational resources available, all the while using less amount of energy. This way the external technological factor has
a positive impact on MAC, granting the business organisation a sustained competitive advantage.
There are also present internal factors than have an impact on MAC such as the organisational structure, culture,
employee skills, leadership style etc., with these factors impacting the overall performance, productivity, profit margins,
employee motivation and job satisfaction levels. For example, if MAC possesses internal functional organisational
structure, which implements a long hierarchical chain of command, then all decision making operations of MAC take
longer time, as many employees in the chain of command need to be consulted for the decision making process, thus
impacting the overall performance, efficiency and profit margins of MAC.
