INTRODUCTION
International leadership refers to social role in which expectation one group is presented
in front of other group in order to support them and enhance their performance so that respective
goals can be attained in quicker manner. Leadership mainly supports leaders in influencing
interest of leaders and followers towards organisational work in effective manner (Bassell and
Lambert, 2018). This project is based on London City Airport, UK. This airport is going through
the project of development programme in order to provide more advance and valuable services to
customers in rightful manner. In this report, detailed description will be provided on the issues
developed while taking account of international business opportunities. This will also include
implication of academic theories and models for evaluating contributions of board members. At
next, Knowledge and understanding on principles of international, corporate entrepreneurship in
a hyper-competitive and unpredictable environment will be provided. At last, explanation will be
provided on international business environment opportunities in order gain competitive edge.
The main role chosen among the board members are localising resident of London in order to
develop understanding existing issues and its influence over the society.
Overview of scenario
London City Airport is serving millions of passengers. From the last 30 years this airport
is growing in rapid manner. This growth can also be seen in terms of local employment
opportunities, effective connection among travellers of UK and Europe. In order to enhance its
growth, The City Airport Development Programme (CADP) presents the opportunity for
developing airport in such a manner that will easily fulfil demand market especially London and
enhance its creativity as well. This plan will also include expansion existing terminal with
24,500sqm, construction of three storey passenger pier, construction of completely new parallel
aircraft taxiway etc. Even though the expansion plan consists range of benefits for the society as
well as nation but at the same time it has numerous of issues associated with that affects localise
people as well. These issues are scene in the form of negative impact over environment, increase
in air pollution, rapid hike in the traffic, etc. In order present all associated issues role of local
resident as a opponent for the expansion plan has been chosen for the same. This will develop
knowledge of other board members and other respective authority towards the same so that they

stop this project. It will directly allow them in taking rightful decisions of stopping this project of
development of London City Airport.
Usage of critique academic theories and models in order to evaluate contributions of board
members.
In the board meeting, all the board members have participated effectively in order to
analyse that whether the plan of airport development is good or not for the nation as well as its
citizens. Among all board members around 3 board members (Local Residents, Green Party
Candidate for Tower Hamlets and Environmental Agency) have opposed this development plan
as according to this plan is consist of numerous of hidden issues which will develop numerous of
problems in the future. In order to analyse their perspective leaders have asked Local resident to
represent their actual thought towards the expansion plan of airport along with the reason that
why they are opposing it (Bassell and Lambert, 2018). From all, local residents are the main who
have mainly opposed the same situation as according to them development of this project will
directly hamper local lifestyle of people living in the nearby area. The main issue that will be
faced by them in future includes vast level of increase in pollution level. This was identified
around 200 % as in February 2017.
Another issue according to local people was related to increase in traffic in the flight
routes areas such as Barking, Tower Hamlets, Newham and Leyton. Individuals belonging to this
zone have also revealed that currently they are also facing issues associated with the traffic and
noise as well that are mainly developed from Heathrow airport. These localise people have
further revealed that they have also noticed that this expansion plan has not been discussed and
communicated to them in suitable and rightful manner as they are not having any particular
knowledge about the same development plan (Rosenbach, 2018). The main reason behind this
was the technical documents that were presented to them. Usage of highly technical information
has bounded these residents to develop their knowledge over the same. Along with this, length of
the document was very high which have made it difficult for local resident to read it and take
rightful decisions towards the same. Even no discussion was made with the local resident while
finalising path of flights. Thus, by observing all of these issues local resident have revealed
changes made at airport area is not at all small therefore it can be said that influence of this
airport development will cover higher range of area. This would directly place impact over the
regular based lifestyle of these local resident people (Madry, 2020). Basic theory of

communication simply states that at the time of communication or conveying message it is
important for both the parties to make use of simple and common language so that they can
understand each other’s perspective (Strielkowski and Chigisheva, 2018). In context of the
present case, Authorities of London City Airport are making use of technical term in their
documents which are being further shared with the local residents. This is directly creating
confusion among the people because they are not able to share understand actual thing which is
going to take part in their city. This completely seen as the wrong act therefore, the plan of
London City Airport must not continued.
In addition to this, there were around 2 more board members who have also opposed to
the same development of London City Airport. These are Green Party candidate and
Environmental agencies. Here, the main perspective of Green Party candidate was the sum up of
few reasons. These includes nominal or lesser profits from the huge area of land, constantly
increasing demand of housing in the London, increasing level of pollution in the same area. In
addition to this, the respective party have also expressed that the Government have recently
provided approval for Heathrow Airport in terms of its expansion. This directly states that
passengers could also move to this Airport as well in terms of their travelling. From this
explanation and perception, it can be said that this board member have presented their views in
the same manner like local resident who have opposed to the same case that is development of
London City Airport. Along with this, one more board member has further expressed their views
towards the same case in opponent manner. Here, Environment agency is seen as this opponent
board who is also opposing the same situation (Griggs and Howarth, 2018). According to this
agency, its main role is to protect water, land and air quality of England. With respect to air
quality, it can be said that they mainly regulates larger industrial sites in order to protect regional
as well as local air quality. For, the development of London City Airport, the respective agency
has specified that this expansion will increase air route traffic that will directly place negative
impact over the air quality (Rosenbach, 2018). Therefore, in order to execute their own role in
effective manner, it is important for them oppose this expansion so that they can easily protect
quality of air in effective manner. According to them, if this Airport expansion plan takes place
then it will definitely pollute the nearby or surrounding land of London City Airport that will
also place negative impact over the environment as well.

All of the statements presented by opposing board members have strong arguments
towards their act. They have also presented valid reasons that expansion work of London City
Airport should not take place as it will directly affect lifestyle of local residents and environment
as well (Madry, 2020).

The basic principle of international working simply states that each development activity
or any type of business decision should only take place when all associated people agrees to the
same. It also states that they are required to conduct activity in such a manner that does not
includes any kind of harm to society or environment. As per the issues associated with the
London City Airport expansion plan it can be said that the plan is consist of many issues
associated with environment and society (Goss and Sadler‐Smith, 2018). Thus, implication of
this plan will directly place negative impact over the society. As a result, the expansion plan of
London City Airport should not take place. This can be well understood with the help of
example. For instance: If local resident of London City Airport, will not support their
development of the respective airport then it would not be possible for them execute their all
operational activities in safe manner. Like, non corporative support of local people might result
in the occurrence of unpredictable activity at airport. This could influence passengers to not
prefer the respective airport as they might be afraid of such terror or anger of local resident. As a
result, it can be said that sales of event would definitely decline as it passengers might starts
avoiding this airport due to unsupportive behaviour of employees. This simply shows that overall
plan of London City Airport should not take place in future.
Along with this, principle of international working states that all business plan must be
developed in such a manner that can influence interest of maximum number of investors so that
they can easily raise financial funds which will contribute in effective execution of
organisational activities in rightful manner (Strielkowski and Chigisheva, 2018). Consequences
associated with the London City Airport expansion plan has developed its negative image among
investors. With reference to current situation, unsupportive behaviour of local resident might
become barrier for this airport as there are probable chances that foreign investors might not take
interest in investing these areas because they are not sure that this project will succeed in the
future or not. This might also develop situation of lack of financial supports as they are not

getting desired support investors who believes that non supportive behaviour of local resident
will not result in higher return in the near future. This simply presents that leaders associated
London City Airport should not continue with the expansion plan because without financial it
would not be possible for them to execute it effectively (Muegge and Reid, 2018).
Along with this, Principle of entrepreneur also states that business should be done in such
a manner that provides equivalent knowledge to all associated people so that there are no
chances of confusion or issues. This can be effectively done by presenting informative report in
front of associated people. This will include information related to the development of Airport
and its associated benefits for society (Ensign and et. al., 2019) . This will contribute in
developing of strong feeling of corporation among all associated people. In the current scenario,
it has been analysed that report presented to local people was of no use as it contains technical
jargon and length of the project was 8000 that was not at all possible for them to read and
develop their knowledge on the same. This becomes another reason non continuing of London
City Airport.
Ability to recognise and act on international business environment opportunities to achieve
competitive advantage using robust and flexible leadership is expected.
Gaining competitive edge at international marketplace in the preliminary aid of every
company. This can be effectively done by adopting right leadership strategy that could help them
in analysing global business environment opportunities. This can be effectively done by having
appropriate support of society and government. Society can be influenced with good quality
services and environment supportive activities. It can be said that leaders are required to make
use of all essential information in order to execute their work in rightful manner that further leads
to attainment of competitive edge at marketplace (Becker, 2018). For this, they often make use of
flexible leadership style. In context of current scenario of London City Airport, it can be said that
the project is consisting of many lack areas which simply depict that they will not be able to
attain competitive edge in future. Along with this, it has been further seen that the authorities of
London City Airport are only thinking about their profit only without concerning about the
society. As a result, it can be said that overall plan of expansion of London City Airport is not at
all good because it is not good for environment as it is affecting quality of air and increasing
pollution level at the same place. Along with this, it is also placing negative impact over the local
residential people as they are facing regular based trouble due to it (Bassell, Lambert and

Friedman, 2019). This trouble can also be seen in the form increase in traffic in the local area as
construction will enhance extra activity in London. This simply states that this project is not at
all good for local resident as well as society. The project have also placed negative impact over
the environment which affect its sustainability for longer period of time.
CONCLUSION
From the above mentioned report, it has been analysed that leadership is an effective way
through which leaders can easily influence interest of employees in their expected manner.
Usage of flexible leadership approaches has supported a lot in analysing different perspective of
board members on specific task or plan. In addition to this, development of knowledge
associated with principle of corporate and international entrepreneurship, unpredictable
environment etc. helps respective authorities in taking right decisions. This directly contributes
in developing their knowledge on those specific activities which leads to higher business growth.
This also supports them in taking right business oriented decision which could also lead to
attainment of business objectives. Along with this, usage right leadership style helps company in
developing their knowledge on international business environment and identifying opportunities
associated with the same so that competitive advantages can be attained by them effectively.
