1INTERNATIONAL NGOS
The aim of this paper is to discuss the effect of the international Non-Governmental
Organizations which are currently working in the different countries and states for the
upliftment of the situation of life and wellbeing of the common deprived people in all over
the world. Despite the fact hat the contribution of the international NGOs for the international
development has been quite difficult to judge. This is due to the fact that these NGOs face
difficulties to the common people who are in need of water, service, foods and human rights.
Finding out the needed areas and providing help to these people with the permission of the
regional government are not always quite easy to attain (Brière et al. 2015). However, the
international NGOs like UNDP, UNICEF, Red Cross, CARE, Amnesty International, and
Red Crescent have the capacity to go beyond the problems of barriers of the nations and work
outside the usual limitation of the government sponsored aids. Mainly after the Cold War, the
international NGOs have become more active in the countries and aim to reach the
international stakeholders to have the presence in the world. All of these NGOs have some
socialized area of aiding. Such as some of them work in the protection of the rights of the
human being, some work for the development of the children around the world by providing
the necessary and basic nutrition, medicines and education. This essay will be discussing two
important international NGOs namely, CARE (relief agency) and Amnesty International.
CARE abbreviates the name, Cooperative for Assistance and Relief Everywhere. It
was established in the 1945 and one of the major international humanitarian agency the
delivers the emergency relief as well as long term international programs. The most important
features of this particular international NGO is its non-secretariat, nong-governmental
administration, and impartial nature. This is one of the oldest and largest international NGO
that focuses on the poverty of the people in the world. This organization works in more than
94 countries working on the more or less thousand poverty fighting programs that reaches
more than 80 million people directly and near about 250 million people indirectly.

emergency response, providing water and sanitation help, economic development ,
agriculture, education, health and finally climate change. This particular NGO also works at
the national, international, state and local levels for the changes of the policies and keeping
the rights of the people below poverty line. In addition to this, the organization also works to
empower and meet the needs of the women and girls of the world and promoting gender
equality in every aspect of the human life. This particular organization is the confederation of
fourteen national members and four affiliated members which are registered as the
autonomous non-governmental and nonprofit organizations. Along with this, the organization
has a huge network in the world and partnership with other non-governmental organizations
which are working for the development of the human life in the globe. The humanitarian

Sphere standards, Core Humanitarian standard and NGOs for the disaster relief. CARE is the
members of the networks that aims to provide coordination and the quality of the
humanirerian aid. These include, The Emergency Capacity Building Project (ECB), the
Active Learning Network for Accountability and Performance in Humanitarian Action
(ALNAP), The Consortium of British Humanitarian Agencies (CBHA), and the Steering
Committee for Humanitarian Response (SHCR), the INGO Accountability Charter and the
International Council for Voluntary Agencies (ICVA) (Nelson 2015). In addition to this, the
organization also engages itself in the joint advocacy campaigns with the other NGOs in the

rights in every conditions helping them to attain a high quality of living standard. The
operation of this particular organization is based on the Universal Declaration of Human
Rights and other international human rights instruments (Care-international.org 2019). The
motto of this organization is to empower the people in the world so that each of them enjoy
all the human rights. This particular organization draws attention of the governments to the
human rights abuses. It campaigns for the compliance with the international regulations and
standards. This organization with all its ability works to mobilize the opinion of the people
for generating pressure on the governments that allows the abuse of human rights or paying
no heed about it. The organization considers a capital punishment as the ultimate and
irreversible denial of the human rights. For its works, the organization has also won the noble
peace prize for defending the dignity against the torture.it has also proved itself to be
important in the field of the international human rights protection under the United Nations.
The chief principle and actions of this international NGO is to focus on the prisoners
of conscience who are imprisoned and prevented from expressing the opinion by the means
of violence. However, this organization does not work in the cases of political questions but
gathers facts about the different cases of violation of human rights and promoting them more
effectively. The organization mainly focuses on the more democratic and relatively open
countries. This is due to the fact that it tends to produce a range of reports that can
statistically present the abuses of the human rights in the world so that it can encourage
people to express their opinion to encourage the improvements in terms of human rights
abuses. As the large country influence the small countries, therefore, the system of the US is
followed by the organization as it is a large country with large population and the changes of
the cases of abuses of human rights take place in such countries where population density is
higher than the others. Now as the country has been working in more than one fifty countries
of the world, mainly the developed nations, have focused on the situation of Syria. This is

due to the fact that it is the place where the public life has been hampered by the civil war
situation. Along with Syria other war stricken countries like Burma, Israel, North Korea, Iran,
and Sudan are also in focus on this particular international NGO (Amnesty.org 2019). The
organization has been networking and partnering with the other organization having same
focus of protecting human rights. The comparable NGOs like Human Rights Watch and
protecting the human rights of the people of more than two countries.
This particular organization works in the global situation and depends mainly on the
funds developed by the fees as well as donations of the worldwide members. The
organization does not accept the funds from the governments or any of the governmental
organizations. These affiliated donations from the worldwide membership allows the
organization to maintain a complete independence from any type of other government
organizations or any of the governments, economic interests and political ideologies and
religious beliefs. This process of ethical fund raising system helps the organization to
standard firm and unbiased in the defense mechanism of the universal and individual human
rights (Berliner 2016). However, like all the other international non-governmental
organizations, Amnesty International also has some very important controversies that relates
to the dubious records of the human rights abuses, under protection of the overseas
employees and excessive expenditure on the management. The governments along its
supporters from the counties like Australia, Congo, Czech Republic, India, Qatar, Israel,
Russia, Nigeria and Vietnam have criticized the foreign policy bias of this particular
organization.
In discussing the role of the international NGOs in protecting the human rights and
uplifting the quality of human life in the people below poverty in the world, the factors of
success and barriers are important to note (Sakurai 2016). These two international NGOs
aiming to the development of the social lives of the people are working for more than fifty

years and have change themselves for meeting the demands of the people and the current
situation. They have played a major role in the attainment of the sustainable development at
international level. These NGOs have the demonstration groups that were the key drivers of
the non-governmental negotiations, starting from the politics and regulatory functions of
these NGOs (Aschari-Lincoln and Jäger 2016). These organizations have aided by their
membership and other ways so that they can work in the focused areas more effectively. In
addition to this, both of these NGOs have been supported by the advancement of the
information as well as communication technologies that aids these NGOs for working more
approximately. These multinational brands have been vulnerable to the pressure from the
activists and the NGOs are eager the challenge the labors of the companies, human rights
records. Due to this reason, the companies which are not specializing the highly noticeable
branded goods are feeling this threat of the NGOs. These campaigners are developing their
techniques for targeting the downstream customers as well as shareholders.
However, despite of having different types of controversies, these NGOs are being
working for more than fifty years and proving help to the people in utter poverty and
discrimination (Crack 2017). In the most under developed nations like the Republic of
Congo, Nigeria, Burma, Bangladesh and other developing countries like India, Pakistan,
Uruguay, and the war stricken countries like Syria, Iran, Afghanistan and Israel, these NGOs
are reaching and fetching the actual records of the deprivation and poverty (Dilevko 2018).
Therefore the governments are feeling pressure to solve these issues and awareness about
such problems are getting exposure at their best.
Therefore, it can be stated that the international NGOs are not only focusing on the
local areas from where they have originated but reaching more people in the world. Through
different types of campaigns and networks, these NGOs are trying to find out the issue area
and funding the local organization to mitigate the problems as soon and possible. Hence the

presence of these NGOs have made the world more humane and becoming the savior for the
people in any types of distress.
