of a country with the support of Greek national tourism organization. It has given employment to
many sectors across the city of Athens. in the 2018, over 16 billion Euros are being earned due to
tourism (maniatis, 2019). Moreover it has created more than 459000 jobs in Greece in the year of
2017 and approx 600000 jobs in the year of 2018 (gtp.gr, 2018) .

Athens is basically known as the cradle of ancient civilization and birthplace of

The Greek National Tourism Organization has reported that Greece has welcomed almost
32 million visitors in the year of 2018 and expecting to welcome doubled numbers in upcoming
year. The highest international visitors would belong to the United States. The country has
broken all the records till date. The number of tourists has suddenly increased to 32 million from

Based on the graph we can see that the international arrival has drastically increased in
Greece. In the year of 1995 the international arrival was 4.1 million where as in 1998, it was 6.2
million. The rate was doubled in 2005 and reached to 15 million approx. Moreover, between
2005 to 2010, the numbers were stable and were 15 million only. Then it has started growing
drastically and reached to 22 million, 23 million, 24 million, in 2014, 2015, 2016 year
respectively. The number reached finally to 28 million and 32 million in 2017 and 2018
respectively. Majority international tourists come from North America and UK (Smith, 2018).
