INTRODUCTION
Nepal is one of the great tourism destination place in South Asia. It is basically located in
the Himalayas and also includes some of the parts of the Indo-gang tic Plains. Nepal is having an
estimate of 26 million population. Kathmandu is the capital of Nepal. There are many places in
Nepal to make it a perfect destination like Phewa scenic lake, Nagarkot from where you can see
the breathtaking views of the Himalayas, Bhaktapur which shows a clear picture of architecture
and Hindu temple, Chitwan national park which is the world’s best heritage site, Janakpur which
is a blend of the history, culture and the religion. (Ranganath, 2015) There are many more
attractive places in Nepal which makes this destination a wonderful experience for the tourism
especially. In this case study we are going to discuss about the historical development of Nepal
tourism and what are the attractive destinations are there for the tourists. Moreover we have to
look forward about the destination development issues and international tourism visitation on the
other hand. Nepal is one of the number one tourist spot these days. It is a complete scenario for
the tourists as well as the local people out there getting business from the tourism especially.
Nepal is increasing its tourism business but on the other hand, they are declining on customer
satisfaction. Nepal government is not very much serious about their tourism business because of
absence of tourism centres and the tourism programs. (Stevens, n.d.)
OVERVIEW OF THE HISTORICAL DEVELOPMENT OF NEPAL TOURISM
Nepal is a heavenly place for all the tourists either it is for adventure, cultural and
environmental enrichment. Nepal consists of natural valleys and plain specially consists of
breathtaking Himalayan views. (Shrestha, 2012) Nepal is really well connected with the roads
adjoining Indian border in the south. Nepal is mainly popular for the highest mountain peak in
the world naming Mount Everest which is situated in the heart of Nepal. World heritage site like
Lumbini is also the birthplace of Gautama Buddha. Janakpur is also a place in Nepal where
every tourist can enjoy a blend of history, culture and the religion. It was said that this place is
the birthplace of Lord Rama’s consort, Sita and also the destination where they got married also.
Janakpur is basically known for the Hindu pilgrimage. Nepal has many tourist attractions but
Bhaktapur is also a Hindu temple which is very well known for the pottery, masks and cultural
handicrafts especially. It is also known as a shopping point for souvenirs and cultural handicrafts
which are one of the best in the world itself. (Bhote, 2016) Nepal is also offering a great
experience for their tourists like they are offering an experience to view the mountains and
highest Himalayas like Everest, Kanchenjunga etc from a flying experience of almost 7000 m.
There every person can feel the climate on the depth with a different view from all over the
world. It is basically called a heaven when viewing a natural gift from the God. Boudhanath is
also one of the best thing in Nepal where Tibetan Buddhist culture is accessible. Boudhanath is
one of the largest Asia’s Stupa with the lightning of thousands butter lamps and shades which
shows that monuments and Stupa a biggest beauty in the Nepal tourism itself. Patan or Lalitpur
is a very famous tourist place which is very near from its capital Kathmandu. It is really popular
for its architecture, well furnished wood carvings and an air of religion. Before 2015 earthquake

Nepal is totally covered up with the tourists attractions which also include some natural
attractions like Highest Mount Everest, Holy places, natural Chitwan national park and many

and interesting thrill. There are many attractions but the most attractive point for the tourists and
their liking is trekking, mountaineering and rafting in the impressive surroundings which is
completely natural. A micro-light flight is also an attraction as it shows a clear and eye view

2019)Nepal is having a huge findings like Mountain climbing, trekking, bird watching, rafting,
hot air ballooning, bungee jumping, paragliding, ultra light aircraft, mountain biking, jungle
safari and mountain flight also. These all attractions at one place is like a bunch of enjoyment
under one roof. (Cain, 2015)These attractions are really authentic and joyful for every tourist of

every age either he/she is a child or even a mature person. Beauty with the attraction is always be
the best combination to watch out. Natural beauty like Mount Everest, Kanchenjunga and
watching them very closely with the help of mountain flight is really a great experience to watch
out. People in Nepal are so welcoming that you will never feel like any other place to hang out .
Nepal tourism board declared Nepal as a great tourist destination and hope that this will attract
more than one million foreign tourists to visit here. Tourism will increase then definitely this will
help to elevate poverty or even finish the poverty among all over in Nepal because of the money
changing in Nepal for tourism especially. (Zurick, 1992)
KEY DESTINATION DEVELOPMENT ISSUES CURRENTLY OCCURING
Nepal is really suffering from many development issues these days as there is no political
stability from last many decades and thus it results to high poverty rate, unemployment and many
other problems. Nepal is moreover a place like heaven but due to these bad circumstances it is
not growing as fast as it can grow because of the Tourism and its beautiful attractions. Nepal is
surrounded between two major nations India and China. It is very much smaller than India and
even more smaller than China itself. Nepal is struggling through in-between phase and suffering
from many of the serious problems. There are many problems lies like in other countries as well.
They are facing violence, political instability, unemployment and environmental pollutions etc.
The biggest problem is of political instability as there is no streamline between a leader or the
minister with his/her party members or even with the political parties. (Ghimire, 2016)Nepal is
facing crisis these days, they have only one source and that is Tourism. They cant even survive
on one note of tourism as they have a bigger population and moreover a large number of people
out there lack the inadequate health and sanitation facilities and are malnourished. Thus, they are
illiterate as well. There are many people who are unemployed or even the persons who are
having the job have not enough pay so they can survive. Death ratio is very much high especially
in children because of no space for survival or even no food for eating. Thus, there are majorly
these problems like government is not completely trying out to finish up poverty which leads to
crime as well. (Heredge, 2003)The government should at least take some appropriate steps to
provide more jobs and employment by setting up more industries and some productive activities.
Crimes are the main second development issue to be cover up like there is a high poverty rate
and people out there to feed themselves or to be safe from poverty choose these bad steps like
crime. Crime is increasing day by day like girl’s trafficking, dacoity, terrorism or even
smuggling of the gold etc. They also pretend some more crimes like stealing, theft, prostitution,
murder, rape etc. If the government is strict and there should be less poverty then, definitely
these problems can be easily finished off. (bhandari, n.d.)The crime rate can be very low if there
are significant jobs or any work to do for their livelihood. Although, Nepal is a very beautiful
place and a nature accessible but due to this political instability and unemployment it creates
some bad marks on it. People love to visit Nepal but on the other hand, they are afraid of being
an accussed or they don’t want to be in any problem as they are visiting for their enjoyment and
spending quality time. Nepal can be a crime free country as they have everything which is very

much attractive like nature, beauty, parks etc. India and many countries are trying to help out
Nepal to come over the crisis and unemployment and soon it will become a crime free Country
where everyone can be live happily forever.
TOURISM POLICY ISSUE FOR NEPAL
Nepal is really a cultural, natural and geographically rich place for the tourist destination
but there are many problems and challenges which are really a serious concern for the tourism
industry. There are limited tourist spots which are properly not developed as they are getting the
money for the tourist spot but not even spending least amount on that spot to make it more
attractive. Nepal is one of the best tourism Destination all over having everything like natural
Highest Mountains, Parks, Historical sites and much more. There are many traditions in Nepal as
well but they are declining because of the lower rate of tourism or tourists are declining day by
day. Nepal is having a big shortage of necessary infrastructures for proper development of
presented as well as practical tourist spots. Nepal is really a beautiful country with various
natural sceneries, religious and historical places and moreover their social arts culture. Nepal can
be one of the best tourism Destination as they have everything except the proper infrastructure
and its development. Nepal is not having proper tourism centre which can help the tourists to
provide proper and necessary information about the tourism and its attractions. There is a big
problem like if the tourists are in more numbers then they have to suffer from over crowding and
environment pollution. (Raghu, 2009) They are not taking proper care of World heritage sites
and not even maintain them for a longer duration of time. It seems that government is just busy
in collecting funds from the tourism but not eventually providing them any facility or not even
taking care of their own culture and attractions. Government is not focusing on tourism properly
as the tourists are facing problem even at the time of enjoying any particular adventure. There
are even no standard flights as well, in fact there is no personal security for any of the tourists.
They are facing inadequate tourism, lack of appropriate programs, no proper tourism policy and
moreover no proper management of the people who are visiting as your guests. Nepal
government knows very well that they are generating their revenue from the tourism and the
tourists itself but they are not even ready to focus on them. These particular small ignorance are
leading Nepal itself in a problematic condition. (devkota, 2011) Thus, government has to
generate or create a proper tourism policy for the tourists and spread a well knowledgeable guide
to every local person so that everyone can help to generate the tourism business in Nepal and
they can themselves create jobs and many businesses from the tourism itself. If there is proper
tourism then definitely there will be many businesses which can be helpful for their people also.
Rotation of the money will be fast and maximum people can get the benefit of good livelihood.
Nepal is really affected these days but its not like that it cant be improved. Nepal can get its
tourism on top by just taking some initial steps to improve their tourism industry as well. (jones,
2013)

CASE STUDY WITH THE SUMMARY OF KEY OUTCOMES
This case study of Nepal tourism clearly shows that Nepal is one of the beautiful Tourism
destination all over but it is declining its tourism because of the government instability which
further leads to high poverty rate and high rate of crimes as well. (kaur, 2018) Nepal is a place
where anyone of any age either he/she is small or even a matured person will find its destination.
The main problem of Nepal government is that they are generating their revenue from these
tourist attractions and tourist itself but they are not spending or taking care of their own culture.
Nepal government is not maintaining their tourist spots very well, no proper infrastructures are
there, no proper information of tourism, no tourism centre so that people or the tourists can find
out their choices among the attractions. They are simply living on like a tourist will pay and we
will collect a revenue that’s it. No proper intimation leads to high rate of crimes and
unemployment. For being a well crime free country they have to take initial steps which will
increase their tourism and also make more businesses for the employment as well. (Shoora,
1998)
