1. Compare and contrast the positive and negative use of Internet to businesses and society
Internet is the most powerful thing in the world of technology and the internet is building
very powerful society in the world. There are several positive and the negative aspects of the
internet that are as follows -
Positive impact of internet on the societies
The biggest possible use of the internet on the societies is the regular use and the
popularity of the social media and now a days, the internet is in the reach of everyone.
Social media helps the old ones to meet them with their friends and the groups on the
social media is the best example of the social interaction (Jaeger and Bertot, 2016).
The internet also helps in building the presence of the small and the micro level
businesses on the social media and this also removes the geographical barriers.
As the use of online platform increases, this explore the heights of the societies about
learning the online shopping, online jobs, online transactions and the most used
platform i.e., the mobile wallet and this increases the living standards and the thinking
of the societies. Internet also provides the social freedom to the societies (Farisi, 2016).
Today, the people are exploring the internet deeply and the going towards the other online
platforms such as the blogs, social media, videos, e-books, newsletters. So, the societies are more
and more updated by this social platforms.

Negative impact of internet on the societies
As the people are getting addicted of the internet and the stuffs, the easy availability of
the illegal things is not suitable for the kids because the the small kids are also aware of
the internet (Baym, 2015).
The addiction of the social media also affects the studies and social and professional life
in future.
As the use of of internet is increasing day by day, the criminal activities are also
increasing and the hacking of the information of the people regrading their bank
information or the other relevant information and the internet is also giving rise to the
terrorism activities (Khalil and Osman, 2017).
As the internet can do anything in the today's world more than the human and more
advanced so this creates the new problems because the internet works with the speed and
the human needs some time to do to the same work.
School going students are become more isolated from the societies because of the
addiction of the online gaming the social media.
The internet also dis balanced the daily life of the people and their professional activities
(Flewitt, Messer and Kucirkova, 2015).
Positive Impact of the internet on the businesses
Before the invention of the internet, the business found it difficult to spread across the
world but the internet changes the manner of doing the businesses because of the online
marketing platform is increasing day by day (Tømte, Enochsson, Buskqvist and Kårstein,
2015)
Internet also build the connection in between those who are working on the same
platforms.
Internet provides the 24*7 availability for the global access and the customers can also
use the website anytime, anywhere.
The easy accessibility of the business on the online platform helps in interacting with the
customers and also helps in expanding the business to the global level (Flewitt, Messer

Internet saves the time and the money of the companies and also improves the business
interaction (Flewitt, Messer and Kucirkova, 2015).
Negative Impact of the internet on the businesses
As the online presence of the businesses is increasing, the competition and the marketing
complexity among the companies also increases.
As the cybercrime is increasing, this is impacts the company and can also infect the entire
business network (Flewitt, Messer and Kucirkova, 2015).
The online dependency also affects the company during the network failure.
As the newer business tools are coming the market, the companies are adopting the
software in order to update the companies but as the small businesses who are not able to
purchase the advanced business software is the major concern for the small business
owners to compete with the current market trends (Flewitt, Messer and Kucirkova, 2015).
The transparency of the business on the online platform also increases the competition in
the price and also increases the worldwide competition.
So, these are some of the positive and the negative impact of the internet on the businesses and
the societies. The internet is the best invention in the world that change the whole life of the
human but the misuse will destroy the presence of the internet one day (Flewitt, Messer and
Kucirkova, 2015)
2). Threats faced by organizations and society when using the Internet and measures of security
and privacy that should be taken when Internet applications or services are used online.
Threads faced by the organization
There are several threads faced by the organisation that are as follows -
Fraud risk
The online payment now a days is in trend and every finds it a simple way but the major frauds
happen with the online payment only. The online payment is not so secured that can protect the
personal information of the users and the if someone is having internet password of other user
can easily access the money (Flewitt, Messer and Kucirkova, 2015)
E-cash
It is the paperless cash system which provides the customer to pay the certain amount online. But
there are several threats of the E-cash such as the backdoor attacks, direct access attack and the
private listening of the personal communication. The Eavesdropping is the major threat of the
3

organization in which the hackers listens the private communication of the organisation without
interfering or targeting the operations and the sender or the receiver of the cash are not aware of
these cause (Flewitt, Messer and Kucirkova, 2015).
Ransomware
It is the major threat of the organizations of every kind across the globe. This viruses can expose
the various private information of the organisation and also damages the vital tools of the
company (Flewitt, Messer and Kucirkova, 2015).
Unprotected External devices
The USB and the mobile phones are the major cause and the threat for the organizations in which
the employees can spread the malicious codes or the information or leak the confidential
information of the company that is the very major concern for the companies. The main cause of
this type of threat is the abuse of the direct links which are prohibited in some of the companies
and the user connect the external devices and give the direct access to the websites that are not
accessible in general (Flewitt, Messer and Kucirkova, 2015).
Exploits
The another way to spread the malicious activities by the excessive use of browsers and the
applications and some of the websites download the cache files in the system automatically and
corrupt the whole system. This is the common concern in the commonly used operating systems
because the hackers can easily hack the OS and spread the private information and this can be
beneficial for the competitive companies (Jaeger and Bertot, 2016).
Threads faced by the Societies
The people are now totally dependent on the internet and the the use of social media is
increasing day by day, but some of the users give the personal information. There are several
threats facing by the societies today are as follows -
Webcam hacking
This is the very common threat faced by the people because some of the camera applications
allows the camera without the permission of the user and the is unaware of this kind of the
activities. By this, the hackers watch the user physically without their knowledge (Jaeger and
Bertot, 2016)
Phishing emails
4
Document Page
As some of the users are not aware about the emails that are generally send by the companies
without the subscription and people open the mails and click o the links given in the emails and
the hackers get the personal information of the user just by one click. Some of the websites are
not secured but the user open the websites by using private networks but this is the wrong
practice (Jaeger and Bertot, 2016)
Ad-Tracking
Some of the unprotected applications popup the unusual ads and this is most risky technology
and track the working on the systems. Most of the users are unaware of the ads and click on them
but the ads are not relevant and this also track the personal data or the data breaching that takes
the data from the social media by showing the ads (Jaeger and Bertot, 2016)
Measures of security and privacy should be taken when Internet applications or services
are used online
Checking the social media settings because the social media contain the lot of personal
information
The use of external storage in the organisation should be avoided to protect the
information from the malware and the other harmful viruses (Jaeger and Bertot, 2016)
Identification of the sensitive business. The private data of any company is of about 10-
15% of the total data on the companies website but that data id very sensitive that results
in the massive loss of the reputation.
The strong and the different passwords should be there for every department because the
password is also one of the major risks. Some of the unbreakable authentications are bio-
metric, access cards and the token authentication (Jaeger and Bertot, 2016)
Do not give the personal data on the social media like email Ids and the mobile numbers.
Use the encrypted applications especially the messaging apps.
The pre-planned data security policy should be applied to avoid the cyber attack in the
organization.
So, these are some of the measure of the security and the privacy should be taken while using the
internet application (Jaeger and Bertot, 2016)
