It begins with an introduction to the concept, emphasizing the role of IoT in creating secure and smart homes, and then moves on to illustrate a typical smart home network setup. The core of the project analyzes various IoT devices, including the Adobe Home Security Starter Kit, Amazon Echo Dot, Netgear Arlo Pro, Wink Hub 2, LG Smart Wireless Security Camera, Logitech Harmony Elite, Tend Secure Lynx Indoor, Smart Lock Home Kit, and Nest Cam Outdoor. Each device is examined in terms of its functionality, issues, usage, control mechanisms, connectivity options, security features, and privacy considerations. The project provides a comprehensive overview of how these devices contribute to home automation, security, and overall user experience, highlighting their strengths and limitations in the context of a connected home.

Introduction
The Internet of Things is needed to make a home secure and a smart place to live in. All
the IoT devices are connected to the home network for the security of home. These IoT things
are all connected to internet so that all the works are done automatically at home. The home
automation also includes turning off and on the light or video cameras that are used for security
at home.
In this present world of digitization, it is very usual that all the things that are used are
connected to the internet. Not only smart phones and computers, all the devices we use as daily
accessories which include from door, cooking, cameras, lights, clocks and many more are all
connected to internet. Devices are available with internet connections that can send information
to us, can communicate with us and do all the commands that are given by us. All the items that
are connected to internet are all Internet of Things. This Internet of Things is needed for making
the home smart and home automation.

The diagram above shows a smart home that are all connected with Internet of Things
devices that are needed in daily lives. There is an antenna which gives the radio frequency
signals. An automatic sensor aquarium is there which gives signal when it needs to be cleaned;
there is a door lock display which shows the guest standing at the door. A door there is a security
camera which is a LG wireless camera that records who is at the door. A smart phone sensor is
emits light is some notification or phone comes even if the phone is on silent mode. There is a
smart television that receives the signals. There is a roof top sensor with a remote control that
opens for sunlight if remote is clicked. All the doors and windows are sensor based that are

opened automatically if the owner wants. There is also a driveway sensor which detects the path
to place the car and take it out. A lamp sensor is there in the lamp which emits light
automatically when sunlight dims. A sensor is put in the belt of the pet too that when it barks, the
owner gets to know that there is something problem outside. HVAC Controls the temperature of
the house. There is an automatic washing machine that is used for washing. An LED lights
sensor is present which is controlled by remote. The kitchen has a sensor based microwave that
gives alert when the food is cooked and also shows the way to make a dish. A display is present
in the kitchen connected to the internet which has the Google page. This helps in searching
Google for recipes and other information related to cooking. There is an Echo Dot speaker with
Bluetooth connection so that the members of the house get to hear all the recordings and alerts
that are made in the house. All the devices are useful to make a house a smart home.
Internet of Things Devices
1. Adobe Home Security Starter Kit
The Adobe Security Starter Kit finds a spot between a self monitored security
system of DIY and a system that is monitored and installed professionally (Kor et al.,
2016). The system can be paired with many ZigBee and Z-Wave products of smart home
that includes lights, switches, nest devices and locks of the doors to give the house a full
coverage. It also supports Alexa commands and recipes of IFTTT.
Issues: The Adobe Security Starter Kit is a bulky devices and it do not support
mobile app notifications.

a. Usage: This is used to protect the house and connects all the devices that
are used in home for security purpose. The system can be paired with
many ZigBee and Z-Wave products of smart home that includes lights,
switches, nest devices and locks of the doors to give the house a full
coverage.
b. Control: This system controls all the devices of the smart home that
includes lights, switches, nest devices and locks of the doors to give the
house a full coverage.
c. Connectivity: This system works even it is not connected to internet. This
is one of the most powerful hubs that are available.
d. Security: It provides security for the entire house.
e. Privacy: As security is maintained in the house, the privacy of the house is
also maintained by using Adobe Home Security Kit.
2. Echo Dot and Amazon Echo
Echo is Bluetooth speaker voice assistant of Amazon that is handy and is powered
by Alexa (Edwards, Edwards & Dot, 2016). Many numbers of household devices are
dealt by Alexa. Alexa is working more on its devices so that it can make all the
household products automated. Alexa is working on products that can be controlled
easily by voice command or only by pressing a single button. Echo Dot is used as speaker
to give command and it has a touch screen so that it can see all the search results and also
have the ability to do video calls.
Issue- The issue of Amazon Echo is that it sometimes does not understand the
language of the speaker.

a. Usage: Used as a speaker and works with voice command and has a touch
screen to see the search results.
b. Control: Echo Dot control all the devices of the smart home that can be
controlled by voice commands.
c. Connectivity: The Echo Dot is connected with Bluetooth devices and
Internet connections are also present in Echo Dot.
d. Security: Echo Dot can be made not hear the things that the user do not
wants Echo dot to listen.
e. Privacy: The Echo Dot can be turned off if the user do not wants it to
listen. The Echo Dot emits a red light when it is not listening to any of the
private talks. All the recorded things can also be deleted from the Echo
Dot for privacy.
3. Netgear Arlo Pro
Netgear Arlo Pro is a security camera that was made in 2015 with weatherproof,
easy installation process, wireless features in it (Habibi et al., 20117). The main problem
of Netgear Arlo Pro was that it was not having any audio capturing capabilities. But later
on, these issues were solved. The device not only used a two way audio, but also
provided recording of sound triggered. The new features that were added in the device
was rechargeable batteries, loud siren and a USB connectivity that is used to store the
local video on USB. No subscription is needed to see the recordings and is flexible in
deciding the place to place the camera.
Issue: The Netgear Arlo Pro have an issue with the distance capturing process.

a. Usage: It is used to capture the surroundings of the home.
b. Control: This can be controlled with a remote and also can be triggered
with voice controls.
c. Connectivity: It has a Wi-Fi connection with the Wi-Fi router.
d. Security: Gives a security to the house showing who comes in and who
goes out of the house.
e. Privacy: Privacy is assured because it does not allow anyone to enter the
house without the permission of the owner.
4. Wink Hub 2
The automation hub of Wink Hub 2 is a device that mainly works with ZigBee,
Lutron Clear Connect, Kidde, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Z-Wave (Fuenmayor & Wink, 2016).
This hub is most reliable and is supported widely among all the hubs that are available.
The hub includes all the products that are needed to make a smart home including from
Netgear Arlo Camera and lighting of Philips Hue to make a home a Google Home.
Issue- The issue of Wink Hub 2 is that it has problems to establish connection
with Z-Link.
a. Usage: Automation hub of Wink Hub 2 is a device that mainly works with
ZigBee, Lutron Clear Connect, Kidde, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Z-Wave.
b. Control: The hub includes all the products that are needed to make a smart
home including from Netgear Arlo Camera and lighting of Philips Hue to
make a home a Google Home.

c. Connectivity: Internet is not always required for operating on Wink Hub 2.
It sometimes works without internet.
d. Security: It provides Security to 3 Door-Window Sensors, 1 flashing Light
with Siren and 1 Motion Detector.
e. Privacy: Privacy is provided y securing window and detect the monitor.
5. LG Smart Wireless Security Camera
The indoor securities cameras are used to keep a look on the home while one is
out of his house (Gharaibeh et al., 2017). Monitoring the activities of the house depended
on the user and if there exists some problem, it is the duty of the owner to call services to
fix it up. The LG Wireless Security Camera offers a service for all 365 days that are
monitored by ADT’s canopy service. This camera is used by homeowners, dwellers of
apartment and renters. They use this camera to monitor their home and business without
the installation of cameras that are professional.
Issue- Sometimes the IP Security camera does not work in LG Smart Wireless
Security Camera.
a. Usage: The indoor securities cameras are used to keep a look on the home
while one is out of his house.
b. Control: It is controlled by remote.
c. Connectivity: It needs Wi-Fi connection within the house.
d. Security: Provides security inside the house.
e. Privacy: All the privacy can be controlled by Security Camera.
6. Logitech Harmony Elite

Logitech Harmony Elite is a remote controlling device that is used for controlling
all the things that are remote controlled (Corcoran, 2016). It connects more than only
controlling a stereo and TV. If someone do not like the old way of controlling thing,
Logitech Harmony Elite is the best way to control all the devices. Logitech Harmony
Elite connects harmony Home Hub to Bluetooth device, Z-Wave and other infrared
devices.
Issue- The issue of Logitech Harmony Elite is the Amazon Instant Video App
does not work.
a. Usage: Logitech Harmony Elite is a remote controlling device that is used
for controlling all the things that are remote controlled.
b. Control: Controls all the devices of IoT.
c. Connectivity: It has Bluetooth connection.
d. Security: Security for all infrared devices.
e. Privacy: Gives privacy to the smart home.
7. Tend secure Lynx Indoor
This is the smallest home surveillance camera which has the capability to capture
a video of 1080 pixel and has a very sharp vision of night mode (Zhang, Chen & Wang,
2016). It has triggering and recording notification, cloud storage that is free, recognition
technology of face and a audio that is done two way.
a. Usage: This is the smallest home surveillance camera which has the
capability to capture a video of 1080 pixel and has a very sharp vision of
night mode.

b. Control: It is a device that control the in and out going of persons from the
home.
c. Connectivity: It establishes Bluetooth connection
d. Security: Security is provided at the door and indoor also.
e. Privacy: Privacy for the house is maintained.
8. Smart Lock Home Kit
The smart lock home kit is use to lock the doors of the house with deadbolt switch
(Fernandes et al., 2017). The Apple Smart Lock Home Kit is easy to install and it speaks
through Bluetooth over the smart phone showing the access to the guests that comes in.
Issue- Sometimes the software on the phones do not work with smart lock home
kit. It should be checked first.
a. Usage: The smart lock home kit is use to lock the doors of the house with
deadbolt switch.
b. Control: Controls the door lock.
c. Connectivity: It needs internet connection.
d. Security: Provides Security at the door.
e. Privacy: Privacy is given by securing the door of the house.
9. Nest Cam Outdoor
This is a type of indoor model camera that works same for capturing videos
indoor (Ott & Hagedorn, 2016). These Nest Cam Outdoor cameras are weather proof and
also can be placed outdoor and needs a power cord. The Nest Cam Outdoor uses Wi-Fi
connection to transfer video. It gives notification for audio and alerts.

Issue- It has issue with having the connection with Wi-Fi.
a. Usage: This is a type of indoor model camera that works same for
capturing videos indoor.
b. Control: Controls the capturing process.
c. Connectivity: Needs Wi-Fi connections.
d. Security: Security for the people inside the house.
e. Privacy: Privacy is provided for the entire house.
10. ADT Pulse
ADT Pulse devices to secure the home locks are the most secure home security
locks (Asgari et al., 2017). The ADT locks are very expensive as compared to DIY
systems. The ADT system offers functions that other systems cannot offer. The ADT
Pulse offers a system that works for 365 years. The ADT Pulse is a system of home
security that is fully featured and the automation platform is doubled using this system.
Issue- It receives unavailable messages that cannot be opened.
a. Usage: ADT Pulse devices to secure the home locks are the most secure
home security locks.
b. Control: Controls the thermostat. Lights of the house.
c. Connectivity: Sensor control
d. Security: Security is provided to all other IoT devices.
e. Privacy: Privacy is provided for the entire house.
