INTRODUCTION
Internet is a globally connected network which provides all types of information to the
people. Internet connects massive network, connects millions of computers together, and forms a
network in which computer can communicate with another computer as long as they both are
connected to internet. Today internet is used by almost everybody for their personal use as well
as business use (Lecheler and Kruikemeier, 2016). The report will highlight the positive as well
as negative use of internet to business and society. Further, the study will also describe the types
of threats which are faced by society well as businesses. Moreover, the report will also highlight
different types of communication network providers and their detailed comparison.
TASK
1) Positive and negative use of internet to business and society.
Internet is the global system which connects computer networks and that uses the internet
protocol suite. The usage of internet is expanded and it is used by everyone. Internet is very
useful as it provides all types of information to people and it is useful to society as well as
business (Keengwe, 2015).
Positive use of internet to society
According to author Barrett and et.al., (2015) internet is used by everyone in society for
different purposes. The major use of internet to society is the popularity of social network and
social media websites. Through social media platforms society all over the world are becoming
stronger, developed and more intelligent. Through internet people get all types of information
i.e., what is going around the world, what other people are doing and culture followed by people
at different places. By the usage of social media platforms like Facebook Instagram, etc. people
have become closer with each other and better communication is created among them. Internet
provides freedom of options to share their feelings and thoughts within the society and it also
provides new ways for social development. Most positive use of IT is that it is societies are
breaking superstition, culture egos and conservatism.
Positive use of internet to business
According to author Hayashi and Fisher-Adams, (2015) internet has great impact on
business. Internet is used by business to do its day to day business operations. Digital
technologies helps business to attract, engage and retain customers in an effective and desired
manner and also in lower prices. Thorough internet companies get information about customers

buying habits and assist in making new marketing strategies. Most business develop their own
business website and make use of different social media platforms to connect with public and
marketing of goods. With the rise of E- commerce and digital technologies and social networking
websites allows business to reach to audience all around the world. By the use of social media
geographical barrier is no longer a bigger issue. By internet, new startups and small business can
now advertise and sell their products to customers globally through platforms like flip cart,
amazon etc. There are other advantages also of internet to business like web based technologies
improves teamwork, saves workers time and also assist in increasing productivity.
Negative use of internet to society

very important part of life. By excessive use of social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram
YouTube, the culture of selfies, propaganda stress and depression is growing faster. On Facebook
many people share their viewpoints and thoughts but never implemented in their own life.
Internet has negative use as people are getting addicted to it and they spend their precious time
on their smartphones leaving beside their important work. People are too busy using internet that
they don't have enough time to spend with their family. Frauds are also done through social
media like some people post that they need fund for raising social cause but in reality only few
societies use that for social and environmental development. People these days use online
shopping website for purchasing goods but they are not aware that their details of debit card and
credit card are accessed by other people. Public post their activities on Facebook etc but they are
not aware that their data and information can be hacked by other people.
Negative use of internet to business
As per the view of author Tammaro, (2016) internet has many advantages but it is very
dangerous for business as it brings new competitors from different areas in the market. The
information post by company on their website and other social platforms is reached to the
competitors also. The offers and schemes which firm is giving to their customers to increase their
sales are visible top other competitor also, this impact the overall business productivity. The
negative use of inter to business is that the confidential information stored in the systems can be
hacked by some people. There are many types of malware attacks which damages the data
stored in the systems. There are high chances of data leakage, which is very dangerous for

business. As when confidential data is reached to competitors it affects the productivity of the
firm and it can also lead to losses.

user, such as credit and debit card, personal information and so on. Strong firewall must be
installed to keep system safe from all types of malicious activities as Firewall stops any other
types of software's to enter in the computer.
Data Theft
Data theft is the act of stealing computer based information from unknown victims with
the intent of compromising privacy or obtaining confidential information (Hayashi and Fisher-
Adams, 2015). Data theft is widely increasing problem for individual computer users as well as
big corporate organisations. According to author Aksal, (2015) Data theft can impact the business
operation in such a way that their confidential data stored in systems are stolen by some people.
The business is not aware that their data is being stolen so this impact the activities of
organisation. The data theft is dangerous for business as it not only steals business data but also
other important data such as employee’s data and their personal details, all this can also be stolen
by data theft practice. There are many different types of anti virus available in the market, like
Quick heal security, Avast antivirus, etc. people should use them so that the security can be
maintained.
Session hijacking
Online communication and transaction happens every minute. Consumers communicate
with business through various servers all over the world. According to the author Jacobs, Amuta

and Jeon, (2017) Hackers can easily listens to their conversation and steal their sensitive data by
using methods such as man in the middle attacks, SQL injections and many more. As the
sensitive data is easily reaching to consumers so this impact the day to day operations and overall
productivity of the business. Privacy cannot be maintained in business. The data hacked can be
leaked to market or may be given to competitors by hackers for a sake of money. Stong security
like firewall and high security anti viruses must be used so that it can maintain the security of
systems.

Hacking refers to unauthorised access to a computer system or network. The person
engaged in this process is known as hacker. The hacker may alter system or security features to
accomplish a goal which differs from the original purpose of the systems. As per the view of
author Keengwe, (2015) hacking is the most dangerous activity which is done by some people as
people started hacking websites and make misuse of them. People post their details on Facebook,
etc but they are not aware about the risk i.e., their accounts can be hacked and information can be
misused for other purposes. People must use only Trusted and secure Wi-Fi networks. There are
various methods which should be used for security such as, people should make their passwords
strong and they must use two factor authentication (Goldie, 2016). .

As internet is used by almost all the people these days. By the use of internet many frauds
are done by some people i.e., many fake investment schemes are introduced to people and due to
lack of knowledge some people becomes victims for this fraudulent practices. As per the author

asking money for charity fund, but actually they don't do all this and poor people who don't have
enough knowledge becomes victim of these types of frauds. For being safe from fraudulent

From the above study it is concluded that It plays an important role in today's world. By
using internet information is easily exchanged between people. By making use of various social
media platforms like Facebook and Instagram communication is becoming stronger. Internet
helps business in knowing their customer’s requirement and expanding their market.
Businessman these days make use of websites and social media for marketing their products. As
internet has positive uses but there are negatives uses also as many fraudulent activities are done
by people and due to lack of knowledge some people become victims.
