Introduction
Internet server management is defined as the standard protocol on the internet in order to manage
network devices. This manages the network system which includes the switches, routers, bridges,
servers, etc. The present report depicts the scenario in which the main focus will be on the
changes which shows that a small art college had to go through when it is been merged with a
large organization. The art college is set to merge itself with the Birkenhead College and the
changes that the art college would have to go through are to be discussed in the document
report. The project would be having an introduction section which will go to summarize the
whole project and the outcomes that must be gained from the document. The major points that
are to be discussed in the project are the explanation of the reason that the art college is using
static addresses whereas Birkenhead College is using DHCP. The difference between the email
services that were used by the two institutions and much more will further be evaluated in the
report (Levergood and et.al. 2018).

1.1 Assess various communication protocols and internet technologies.
Communication protocols– The protocols through which the individuals can interact and
communicate with one another with the help of the internet.
Internet technologies–This is the ability for transferring the data and information by using
various servers through the internet (Al-Fuqaha and et.al. 2015). This is very crucial in the day-
to-day life of the individuals as this allow the persons to communicate with one another through
the internet. Some of the technologies of the internet and communication protocols are outlined
below –
TCP/IP – This is the term which stands for transfer control protocol and Internet protocol.
TCP is said as the core protocol of IP and that is the reason for the common name as TCP/IP.
This is the protocols which are used to deliver the files and transfer them from one place to
another.
Figure 1: TCP/IP Model
OSI – This is a model which is known as open system interconnection. This model consists
of seven logical layers which are named as the application layer, presentation layer, session
layer, transport, network, data link layer, and the last physical layer.

DNS–This is the domain name system for the services, computers any of the resources which
are linked to the private network and the internet.
Figure 3: Domain Name System
Super-Netting – This is the type of internet technology which is used to connect more than
two networks with the mutual classless Inter-domain routing called CIDR prefix. This
method is used to combine the two networks together.

Sub-Netting – This technology is used to split the networks into two or more sub-networks.
The subnetwork can be defined as the physical or logical parts of the IP network. The
division of the subnetwork is done in two parts which are name as the host identifier and the
network prefix.

1.2 Associate various internetworking servers and internet services
Internet services- This is the service which provides the transmission of information from the
internet servers to the personal computer system or laptop of the individual. Some of the Internet
services are given below –
E-mail- This is the method which is used to send digital messages from one user to many
recipients all over the world.
E-commerce- This is said as electronic commerce which is mainly used for the exchange of
the goods and services through networks for example- the Internet. The most popular
websites for e-commerce are Amazon and Alibaba.
Internetworking servers- This is the method of relating the computer network with the other
networks by using the gateways which offer the common method of routing the data and
information packets among the networks (Srinivasan and et.al. 2015). Some of the
internetworking servers are mentioned below –
FTP- This term is defined as a file transfer protocol and works to transmit the files of the
computer system from one host to the other host by using the internet.
WWW- This is defined as the information system which is interlinking between the
hypertext documents which are access with the help of internet.

1.3 Access network management concerns.
The most important apprehensions in the network management which are defined as below and
must satisfy the requirement of the users, so this is to recommend that -
Network security- When any of the networks is implemented then the main thing which a
developer must keep in their mind is the security of that network. This is necessary because the
computer network can be severed by any of the illegal people and they can easily harm the users
of the network.
Network Attacks- The network attacks occur when the network is not secure and that attacks can
harm the data and information by deleting, updating, altering the unofficial content into it.
Servers and their performance- As this have been observed that the servers are having the high
equipment machines which are very expensive. Thus, to run them smoothly is very critical and
difficult tasks for any user. Also, maintaining the high level of performance of the serveries the
main requirement of the user. The performance of the server is calculated and measured by the
optimization performance and resources management.

2.1 Examine several technologies of internet server along with its performance.
There are several types of technologies of internet server which are described below –
Server Architecture- The server is mainly used to fulfill the requirements of the clients. The
architecture of the server is designed so that the workload can be divided into many class
applications. The developer needs to reduce the number of system components which they need
to maintain, create and upkeep. The developer forms many of the various structures from
practically a few amounts of subsystems or components, which allocate them the liberty to
download or update all the systems by upgrading the one subsystem. The capability for the
positive server architecture is the suitable degree of the ability to design the server by linking
different mixers of sub-systems.
Thus, by this, the server is fully structured and designed by the different independent sub-
systems by connecting them from the few amounts of interconnects. The interconnects combine
the very high-performance type of subsystems like – the processor to the cache memory and the
multiple processors to one another and have many more requests and demands which are catch
or store to the disk.
Server Structure- This structure includes the model of client-server, which is the structure of
the distributed applications. In this structure, the tasks are assigned and divided between the
resources providers such as client and server. The server and client communicate with one
another with the help of the separate hardware component and they also exist on similar
hardware. The server is the one who accepts the request of the client and shares the data,
resources, and functions. On the other hand, the client is the one who sends the request to the
server and does not share any of their resources or data.
Figure 6: Server Structure
Performance Issues of Apache and IIS
The security and performance improvement are very crucial and means too much for the IIS.
This has gained and improved its share on the Apache from around 21% in the year of 2010 till

32% in February of 2014. This is vulnerable to the unpopular Red worm, which has provided the
gain to the security. On the other hand, IIS is not that much perfect as this is poor in supporting
the perfect frontward privacy which is one of the assets of the cryptography.
To implement or add more features, Apache has used the external web extensions and has a very
low cost as compared to IIS. The performance of the Apache is much better than IIS. Both of
them are having the benefits as well as the drawbacks too, so to choose any of them will depend
on their factors. Apache is not having the vast name and commercial support must have
outstanding security. The IIS can be bundled with windows and support .NET which Apache
does not support.

2.2 Describe the software and hardware constituents of the internet server.
The requirements of the hardware and software mainly depend on the request they generate or
fulfill in a day. Suppose the server is having around 1000 of requests in a day, thus for that, the
different types of software and hardware components of Internet server are defined as below –
Hardware Requirements
1. Memory – The server uses temporary memory or RAM. As per the requirement, there is the
need of at least 16 GB to 32 GB. To hold the status of the client, the server needs the RAM
because the status is held in the form of sessions and the server hold them as per the time
when they have logged in (Mickens and et.al. 2017). Thus, these sessions are stored in RAM
because this memory has the ability to grip the sessions of all the users. The RAM memory is
also used to accept the request of the client by the server. The specification for the client
about memory should be around 1.5 GB to GB in order to match the speed of the web
servers.
2. Operating System – The operating system is the one who assists to provide the interface
between the software and hardware of the system. The operating system by which the web
server applications are effectively managed and implemented is Windows server 2003 and
2008, Fedora 14*64. The client does not require any special features in their operating
system as the server requires, so the operating system used by the client is Windows vista
and windows 7x86, & x64, etc.
Software Requirements
The requirement of the software is important in order to implement the webserver. Thus, to
implement any of the web services, the software requires is the web server itself. Thus, in this
report as per the scenario, the IIS software has been installed which act as a web server and used
to implement the web services. In this, any of the work of the web servers is done by IIS and it is
very easily to execute the web services and also you can specify everything which you have to
do by using the application of web in it through the Graphic user interface of IIS.
The other Software application is java which is used to compile and run the web applications on
the server. This is the latest version software. Also, to store the data, MySQL software is used.
The software which is used by the client is the internet browser so that they can access the web
applications on their computer system.
