Abstract.
The usage of internet in the current era has heightened greatly leaving people with no option but
to rely on it in doing their businesses. Many businesses are being done online, transactions and
purchasing as well as marketing. In this concept the discussed concepts are such to why people
use the internet? ways in which people have become entirely dependent on the internet and the
effects of the internet on academic studies. The aim of this research is explaining briefly how
internet has influenced our lives.
Introduction
Internet has been known as a global network that has been used by thousands and millions of
people in connecting to the world. Internet was established by the department of defense in USA
in the early 1960s and today there are over 20 million people who uses the internet with more
then 30,000 networks which has spread over 100 nations all over the world. Internet is a tool that
has become a huge electronic bridge as it offers provisions of instant access to the news and
information globally (Jackson, 2012). There are DBs, docs, files and programs which sits on the
internet platform and this contains large volume of information. Internet has grown to the extent
where one can search the up to date information with regards to stock market activities, weather
forecast news, latest music, finding a recipe, online banking among many other. Internet can be
defined as the electronic communication platform of networks that is used to connect computer
networks and the computer facilities in the organization globally (Webster, 2017). The essay
aims at discussing the reason to as why people use the internet, the impact on the dependency on
the internet and the internet effects on one study.
Why People Use Internet?
There are so many reasons on the basis to as why people use internet. Internet has greatly
influenced to the way we work or even live. People have used this platform in so many ways.
People may browse the internet platform so that they can get information using search engines
such as Google, yahoo and Bing. Secondly, internet can be used as platform for social
networking where people can converse easily with their families and even friends. Thirdly,
internet can be used for communication through such platforms such as the Skype, GTalk etc.
Fourthly, internet through the use of emails, yahoo mail and AOL one can be able to send and

transfer files. Entertainment is another reason to as why people use internet through watching
movies and playing real live games. Lastly but not least is that it can be used by people in doing
internet transactions through debits cards, online banking using PayPal among others (Al-
Dabbagh, 2017).
Internet Dependency
Dependence to the layman language is the act or relying or a situation where one is controlled
something. People have depended so much on the internet in doing their reading, watching what
is online or trending, chatting and much more interacting and socializing with friends (Harrison,
2017). The concept of internet going down people acts as if they are sick and others cannot
function at all. People have depended on the internet so much in that they have stored all their
data in the clouds thus this has made it hard for them to access their files when there is an
internet failure. A habit is a disease and too much dependency on the internet may cause a
problem to the specific individuals and thus leading to lot of losses in terms of time and
resources (Buchana, 2015).
Internet Effects on study
The effects of the internet in one study can be termed to be positively and negatively at the same
time. Through the internet use one can use it in doing research in school work. Internet effect on
a student is that it has helped them in getting additional information with regards to what they do
in class and sometimes if used properly one may come with new developments (Kumar, 2017).
Internet has affected the education widely as like everything is in google nowadays and one need
to only search and find the solution or something close to the intended solution.
Conclusion
In conclusion, internet has affected the way we live, interact, socialize, work, behave and much
more the way we do things. The concept of why people use the internet has shown clearly that it
has dominated our way of life through the way we communicate, transact, interact and socialize
and transfer of files. Nevertheless, too much use of internet has made people to be too dependent.
In school it has helped students in doing their studies more easily. In conclusion, it will be wise for
people to use the internet in the right ways and avoid too much dependence on it.
