1ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOR
Introduction
The essay helps in the entire analysis of the experience which has been faced by me
when I was performing my summer internship in an organization. The main problem which
was being faced by me during my internship was related to discrimination from the
employers towards the employees working in the organization. Organization is social
arrangement and the members have the different collective goals and this has been seen that
organizations depend on the ability to meet the different predetermined targets as well.
With the implementation of the different kinds of concepts such as emotional
intelligence, techniques of conflict management and the leadership style which will help in
managing the different issues in an appropriate manner. These techniques are useful and will
be successful in reducing the different kinds of issues which can affect the workplace
employee-employer relationship.
Diagnosis of Problem
The problem which have been identified in the previous organization wherein I
worked as an intern was the lack of motivation. When I started doing my internship, my
mentor was not at all cooperative and he used to always find mistakes in the different tasks
which I performed. After I joined the firm, my supervisor allocated with tasks, I tried to
perform them with all my efforts and was successful in the completion of the tasks as well.
However, my supervisor did not encourage me and there was discrimination as well.
Furthermore, due to the lack of motivation, I felt depressed as none of the tasks
performed by me was appreciated. The discrimination between me and my fellow colleague
was the other major issue which demotivated me and I was not able to perform well. For

it in almost the same manner, however this was being noticed that my fellow colleague was
appreciated and he received perks for the good performance, however I could not receive the
appreciation which was my right. Additionally, this can be seen that there were no motivation
theories such as Maslow’s Hierarchy theory or Herzberg’s theory wherein the needs are
required to be provided with major importance in order to deal with the issues appropriately.
The three months of my internship was not at all successful as I felt nervous in
performing the tasks. I was unable to overcome adversity as a demotivated employee is not
being able to overcome the challenges and this was affecting my performance in the
organization as well. Furthermore, due to discrimination I felt that for the same tasks, I am
not being appreciated, however my colleague was appreciated for the same as well. All these
factors affected my overall productivity and performance in the organization as well as I was
not getting any kind of motivation to perform the tasks efficiently (Rahim 2017).
Due to lack of motivation and discrimination, I was not successful in completion of
my internship appropriately and this affected my growth in the career as well. I became
careless about the tasks performed by me wherein I was not bothered to perform tasks and I
did not apologize the different kinds of mistakes I committed during the internship program.
There was conflict between me and my supervisor and this affected my reputation in the firm
as well.
With the help of collaboration technique, this will help in resolving the different
conflicts with proper courage and consideration. The collaboration with the different other
parties helps in involving listening to both sides of conversation to resolve the problem
without any kind of concessions. This is the duty of the individual to forget of winning or
being right in the respective situation. Looking for the root cause is helpful in managing the

different mistakes which have been committed as this will assist in handling the situation
effectively.
Discussion of Concepts in Overcoming the Issues
There are different kinds of concepts and ideas which could have been adopted by me
in order to overcome the different issues in an effective manner. From the above, this has
been clear that the main issue which was faced by me was lack of motivation and
discrimination which affected my performance in the organization. My leader was not at all
cooperative in nature and this affected my overall work performance and lessened by
productivity as well.
I feel I would have dealt with the situation in a much better manner which would have
been effective in nature to handle it more impactfully. In such situation in the workplace, I
could have motivated myself and tried to perform the tasks effectively. I could have
discussed with my supervisor regarding the difficulties which was faced by me and this
would have sorted the situation appropriately and successfully.
Conflict Management Techniques
Furthermore, I could have tried to become resolve the different conflicts which was
faced by me efficiently by implementing different strategies. The compromising strategy is
the first alternative which could have selected by me to establish agreeable and acceptable
situation in the workplace (Mullan et al. 2015). With implementation of avoiding the
situation is the other technique which could have been successful in competing with the
situation in which I was not feeling motivated and my performance was not being measured
in an efficient manner as well (Atkinson, Smith and Singh 2016).

conflict-based situation appropriately.
Leadership Style
Transformational leadership style would have helped the supervisor and me in
connecting and completing the different tasks in a successful manner (Nuttin 2014). With
such leadership style, this would have assisted me in managing the different tasks in a joint
manner. the employer and employee relationship are effective in nature which will be
handling the issues appropriately which would have solved the matter more successfully (Van
Deursen et al. 2015). The transformational leadership will create valuable and positive
change in followers with end goal of developing the followers into leaders.
Emotional Intelligence Strategies
Furthermore, the emotional intelligence strategy is the other best alternative which
could have been adopted by me in which the self-management attribute could have been
useful in controlling my impulsive feelings and behaviors. The management of empathy in
healthy manner and adoption to the changing circumstances could have helped me in dealing
with such negative situation during my internship effectively (Sherry 2018). The self-
awareness concept could have been successfully adopted by me which will help in
recognizing the own emotions along with strengths and weaknesses to deal with different
situations appropriately.

employee and employer relationship in organization. With the implementation of the same,
this allows in communicating more effectively and help in forging strong relationships both

myself and trying to perform my best in order to achieve the goals and improve the
productivity appropriately. The other aspect which I could have followed is the goal-oriented
approach which would have guided me in dealing with the situation in a different manner and

was not being motivated and there were no such motivational factors provided to me.

for performing the tasks and this affected my overall motivation. Due to lack of motivation,
this affected my overall productivity and I was not in a position to perform the tasks
