Journal entry: Habit 2
“Begin with the End in Mind”
The habit of begin with the end in mind includes the importance of work which is required to be
always ahead not behind us. It requires focusing our time and energy at the right place which can
be in control. It is based on the imagination which includes the ability to envision of individual’s
mind which an individual is unable to present with the eyes. It includes that all the things are
created twice which includes mental creation and a physical creation (Covey and Covey, 2012).
It is analyzed that the physical creation always follows the mental like building follow
blueprints. In our life, conscious efforts are required to visualize life else some other people will
empower and shape the life of a person by default. It requires creating the uniqueness and
defining the personal, moral and ethical guidelines which can be expressed happily. At the
beginning of the task or work, it is required to have a clear vision for the desired destination and
direction and then to continue the work with proactive muscles for making things happen.
To incorporate Habit 2 in life it is necessary to develop a personal mission statement.

Personal Mission statement
To incorporate Habit 2 in life requires making a personal mission statement. It includes
developing plan for achieving success. It states that to make the focus and what to do for
achieving success.
It includes identifying the center of attention with the help of developing the habit to concentrate
on the activities which help in building a strong platform for avoiding distractions and becoming
more productive as well as successful. Leadership is required to be maintained which is
necessary for security, guidance, wisdom, and power. According to me, I am more pleasure-
centered. I focus more on that which gives pleasure. I always believe that the center changes
according to stages of life and preferences.
I believe that Principle centered leadership is required in our life for managing the work based on
natural principles as well as building principles for the center of our lives. It means that that we
should live life according to our way by setting the goals and values. The goals which are set by
us should be consistent with our character ethic of integrity as well as fundamental goodness.

Along with goals and clear vision, I believe that the necessary resources should be available for
executing the goals. In pleasure-centered, security, guidance, wisdom and power is required to be
included by us as security is more when pleasure is high and decisions are made by us more
effectively when the pleasure is more.
During my internship in the center for social change and while talking to employees, I got the
opportunity to interview a high-level executive for learning about the culture, operations, and
industry. He is working with the company for the last 5 years and almost has all the information
about the company. He is very attentive in dealing with people. I interviewed him regarding the
success and his strategies that he had set in his mind for achieving success. I had interviewed him
and he answered that he had made a clear vision about the personal goals. He told me that people
require directing and motivating themselves to go in the right direction. I told him that I was
reading Stephen Covey’s book and asked him if he had thought that to lead the team It is
necessary to guide the team.
I believe that the vision of mind changes with the change in age and preferences in life. If I look
into my life during the age of 16, I change my vision to achieve the competition with the
strategy. I had managed to focus on competition along with the studies. I managed to take
participate in extra-curriculum activities for growing and making focus other than studies. As I
grew up, I become more and more realistic that I was not good at some point in time and I could
not reach the top but because of focus in mind and setting the effective values and goals I
managed to go step by step. I always believe and will always believe that If I make effective
goals and I could be able to be a good player. During the various stages, I had changed my mind
and desires. I had noted that despite that having or setting a clear vision and goals in mind
requires the necessary materialize. It includes the envision that what we want to do in the future
we have to work according to our plan. All the things are required to be created twice and doing
work after thinking in mind first (Covey, 2017).
Habit #3: Put First Things First
In this habit, it requires to manage the time. Time management is necessary for life and requires
discipline skills. It requires making the habit of personal management. It includes organizing and
implementing the activities and living with balance. It includes that we can say no when the
things are not right and requires focusing on the highest priorities. In the book of Covey, it is a
running the program in which it is stated that the focus is on the application and discipline of
living must be principle-centered life. He always believed that the ability of humans for
independence leads a person in managing life effectively. Habit 3 is the physical creation. In this,
we have to divide things into urgent or not urgent or it can be important or not important. You
are required to manage and plan the schedules according to prioritizing and dealing with the
most important work at first. It includes the difference between management and leadership and
requires putting first thing first. For being an effective manager, it requires to organize and
execute the priorities. Along with time, it requires to manage ourselves. The activities of life are
required to controlled and choose what to attend and how much time to be given.

It requires connecting with mission, roles, and goals. Scheduling and organizing are essential in
life. My first thing that comes in my mind comes to the workplace is to finish all the pending
work. It makes me more flexible and makes me more relaxed to finish all my pending work first
and then start new work. I am used to preparing schedules for the work which is to be done all
day. It instructs us to achieve the goals and take the necessary action where required.
It is necessary to learn things and taking action and necessary to analyze the urgent and
important tasks. It also includes managing the time effectively and learning how to say no in a
polite way.
In case of urgent, it is necessary to give immediate attention to urgent matters. An example is to
give priority to work whose deadline is approaching. It includes that the urgent drives out the
vital and vital never includes the deadlines (Whatcott, 2017).

During my employment, people ask me to do little things at the beginning and me always to do it
for them. I always gave priority to those tasks which were urgent than important. I used to send
an email and picking up calls first and forgot about the important tasks as it helps in achieving
the goals and mission. I always set the mission and prepare the schedule of the tasks.
Source: (Covey, 2017)
Earlier I never said no to anyone at the workplace which I later realized that I should say no to
less unimportant work because of not saying NO. It is necessary to adopt the habit of saying no
in some cases. There are various ways to say no to another person if your work is more urgent
and important. So, you can say no to another person in a way that I would like to do your work
but I have to submit my work tomorrow because of my deadline. It was really hard for me to say
no or make decisions as I always wanted to work on all the things and hesitate in saying no. It is
beneficial for me to learn to say no for big improvement which I make in my personal and future
career.
