Introduction
This paper defines my learning journey through disclosure of my interpersonal skills and
personal experience. The main motive of this paper is to prepare my learning journal so that I can
evaluate what interpersonal skills I used in the past some weeks and what are shortcomings and
weaknesses of these skills. This paper describes how I have engaged with different interpersonal
skills and applied communication skills in a different range of contexts. The paper covered the
interpersonal communication journal of different weeks. The information recorded in each week
is giving significant information about the key skill that I have used in my learning journey, its
definition, detailed account of its application and effectiveness. At last, the paper is defined
summary of the whole context. With the help of the summary section, one can easily understand
about my personal experience that I have learned from this journal.
Week 2 Journal (Rapport Development)

During week 2, I used rapport development interpersonal skill. The main motive behind the use
of this skill is to develop a close and harmonious relationship with my subordinates and other
colleagues. By doing this, I felt in sync with others and collaborated with them to gain significant
goals and objectives.

The Rapport Development is considered as a one of the foremost important interpersonal skill to
develop a strong relationship with others. The rapport development skills develop mutual

attentiveness, positivity, and coordination among team members to accomplish overall outcomes
of a belonging organization (Wood, 2015).
Application analysis
I applied the rapport development skill with the collaboration of my colleagues. For example,
one powerful method I used to apply rapport development skill is to mirror and match the
behavior of other. By doing this, I able to bring collaboration between different team members
by matching their skills with desired job responsibilities. On the other hand, I also used the
rapport development skill in evaluating the energy level of my subordinate. With the help of such
action, I find out whether the colleagues are shy, extroverted, reserved and exuberant or not?
Effectiveness Analysis
When I applied the rapport development interpersonal skill in my behavior, the subordinate
responded in a well-organized behavior. It is because I am continuously putting efforts towards
the development a healthy relationship with them. I think that my week 2 experience with
rapport development skill was very effective and efficient. It is because the rapport development
skill gives me a chance to develop a healthy relationship with my subordinates. Apart from this, I
can also use training and other relationship building methods to improve my relationship with
subordinates. These methods will also facilitate a good relationship with subordinates.

During week 3, I got a significant experience through the use of listening skills. I used the
listening skills to hear the viewpoint and responses of others to give them effective feedback.

The listening skills are considered one of the most important skills that an individual have. The
listening skill of an individual does not only influence the personal lives of individuals but also
the professional life. The listening skill is utilized to listen to others, and obtain significant
information from them.
Application analysis
In order to apply listening skill, I conducted a timely meeting with subordinates to discuss an
issue or make necessary decisions. In this meeting, I used the listening skills to hear their issues
and feedbacks. With the help of listening skill, I provide the subordinates necessary information
which they require and expect to me.
Effectiveness Analysis
The use of listening skills proved very effective for me. It is because my subordinates get
significant attention from my side and they also received the deserving feedbacks regarding the
discussion issue or topic. My experience with listening skills was great. It is because of the
listening skills aware me about feelings and views of others. Furthermore, it can be said that I
can use active listening theory in exchange for the use of listening skill. It is because active
listening will also contribute a significant experience as listening skills (Trickey, 2016).

During week 4, I used assertive skill. This skill is utilized to respect the jobs and responsibilities
of others and protect the right of my subordinates.

to become open and honest about the wishes, wants, desires, needs, and wants of subordinates.
Effectiveness Analysis
Assertive skill proves very effective for me. It is because with the help of assertive skill I able to
gain the confidence of my subordinates and they become loyal towards work. Moreover, the
other person like subordinates also gives an effective response to any query raised by me. The
use of old behavior theory and positive approaches may also deliver the same outcomes as
assertive skill. It is because all will help us feel good about others and ourselves.

During week 5, I practiced the verbal communication in my behavior. I utilize the verbal
communication to transfer my knowledge and thinking to subordinates.

life. Moreover, I feel good by the adoption of verbal communication because it gives me a

or approach to express my viewpoint with others.

In week 7, I used the non-verbal skill to convey my message to others. I utilized the non-verbal
skill to give clues and additional information to my subordinates and other colleagues.

The Non-verbal communication is a combination of the explicit and implicit message which
transferred to the deserving individual through use of body language. Moreover, the non-verbal
skills include; facial expressions, the pitch and tone of voice and other gestures (Modarres,

negative context. I was not satisfied with the use of non-verbal communication skill. It is because
the non-verbal skill was a reason for the heavy loss of my work life. The use of clarity theory of

In week 10, I practiced the problem-solving skills at my workplace. The problem-solving skills
are utilized to discuss the different workplace issue and take a relevant decision.

the help of problem-solving skills, they produce a wide range of ideas to solve a potential
problem. Moreover, the experienced delivered by problem-solving skill was very good for me. It
is because this skill awards me the efficiency to resolve different problems and accomplish
different concerned objectives of my organization. The use of theories like critical and logical
thinking will also prove a right option to deal with different conflict aspects at my workplace.

In last week, I used the negotiation skill to perform by day to day activities and associated
responsibilities. With the help of negotiation skills, I deal with a wide range of situations to settle
different arguments and dispute. For example, once there was a dispute between two
subordinates of my team. They were arguing related to their job aspects and responsibilities. At
that time, I enforced the negotiation skill to settle their dispute and bring collaboration between
both of them.
