INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION AND BUSINESS WRITING
INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION AND BUSINESS WRITING
Description
Even though people from different contexts may understand or define interpersonal
communication in different ways, it is important to note that there is basic description that can be
applied in all fields regardless of the professionality or field of expertise. In regard to this, we can
typically define interpersonal communication as the process through which an individual exchanges
feelings, information, and meanings by means of verbal and non-verbal ques. Interpersonal
communication is an important aspect in social life skills as it determines how an individual relates to
the rest of their surroundings. The surrounding may be the work place, class, families and many other
contexts. The level of interpersonal communication is mostly determined by the environment in which
an individual is brought up in. this is reference to the pragmatistic schools of thought (Moshiri, &
Cardon, 2014, p. 328)
On the other hand, business writing may be understood as a form of writing that seeks to
depict/ elicit the attention or interest of another party. In other words, business writing can also be
called official/ formal writing. This type of writing requires a systematic and structural flow of
information (Spartz, & Weber, 2015, p. 425).
In recent days, interpersonal communication and business writing have been included as
among the essential skills for effective harmonious operation in the society and in businesses in
particular (Connor, et al., p.476). This implies that for one to have a positive social reputation in their
prevalent contexts, it is typically important for them to be acquaint with interpersonal skills as well as
business writing skills.
Interpretation
In my opinion, interpersonal communication is one of the most essential tools of life more
especially the personal and social life of an individual. The ability of an individual to relate to others
is based on their socialization skills. I however noticed that interpersonal skills are determined by two

basically two factors, that is to say; the biological and environmental facts. The biological factors are
traits passed on from the parent of an individual to the individual/ offspring. If the parents are
introverts, it is highly probable that the children will also be introverts. The vice versa also holds
(Connor, et al., p.476). On the other hand, the environmental factors are yet other issues that affect
ones’ interpersonal skills. The type of the environment in which an individual is groomed or brought
up affects their relation skills at a later time. Some of the environmental factors that may affect
interpersonal skills include but not limited to fixations, depressions, anxiety, and excitement (Brink,
& Costigan, 2015, p.221)
While relating to interpersonal communication to business writing, the two move hand in
hand with each other. An individual will absolutely be ranked incompetent in business writing if their
interpersonal skills are poor. This bases on the fact that with the help of interpersonal skills, a
business writer is able to understand their audience, which influences the structure and tone of
communication. Additionally, the intend of the business writing is yet another important factor that
requires interpersonal skills when writing in business or for business (Berger, 2014, p. 607)
Evaluation
As it was noted in the preceding section, interpersonal communication is a core determinant
of the effectiveness of business writing. Taking a critical analysis of one’s interpersonal skills, it is
typical that they should be flexible to situation. Being able to adjust to different circumstances is a
core of good interpersonal skills. In an evaluative context, it is important to note that business writing
is a leant skill and on the other hand, interpersonal communication is both as a result of nature and
nurture. It is therefore important to have an integrative learning context for one to be a perfect
business writer. The tone, flow, and the structure of writing in business matters a lot as it affects the
way information is conveyed to the intended audient and consequently influences the success rate of
winning the reader (Connor, et al., p.476)
Plan and recommendation

Having a detailed understanding of Business writing in relation to interpersonal
communication will have a great impact in my life. In the prior section, it was discovered that
interpersonal communication is the sole determinant of one’s social relationship in the context to
which he/she lives. The ability for one to get a job or even solve conflicts still anchors on their ability
to have appropriate interpersonal communication skills (Ameen, 2017). In this insight, I will hence try
new skills of relating and socializing regardless of the contexts.
As a recommendation, it is important to appropriately manage psychological strains, growth
and depressions as they tend to have a later effect on the way individuals behave. In the study of
growth and behaviour put fourth by different schools of thought, for example the cognitive school
thought, humanistic School of thought and psychoanalytic school of thought among others had related
recommendations in regard to behaviour and fixation (Burrell, & Morgan, 2017). Additionally, the
consciousness of the mind is yet another variable that needs a critical understanding and control as it
influences the ego and super-ego to which behaviour is as a result of their interaction.
On the other hand, business writing is basically a leant skill although interpersonal skill is a
supplementary advantage. One should acquire the appropriate writing skills, the tones used in
business and the structural flow so as to integrate with the interpersonal skills. This will help and
foster in nurturing, not only a good business writer but an individual adoptive and flexible to changes
in the working contexts (Gao, 2015)
Conclusion
In summary, the interpersonal communication is a typically important tool not only for
business writing but also for general harmonious living in the society. Additionally, it is also
important to note that interpersonal communication is greatly influenced by the environment or
context in which an individual grows. It is therefore vital to ensure and manage growth and
development of an individual while considering the context/ environment of growth
