Homework Assignment
AI Summary
This assignment, a learning blog, addresses the ethical considerations surrounding technology, sustainability, and social change. The student chose a reading by Jamison et al. (2011) focusing on cultural perspectives on scientific and technological growth, particularly the concept of 'hybrid imagination' and the role of Science, Technology, and Society (STS). The student summarizes the reading, which discusses the politicization of green technology, green knowledge, and environmental justice. The student reflects on the insights gained, emphasizing the importance of understanding the social and cultural contexts of science and technology for responsible application and career development. The student intends to apply these insights to use technology for the betterment of society, integrate STS knowledge into their career, and educate others about the ethical use of technology. The assignment includes references to supporting literature on technology's impact and STS.

Thinking about technology: How do we decide what is ethical?
Student name: Student Number:
A statement of which reading you chose
The chosen reading is written by (Jamison et al., 2011), entitled as
‘A Hybrid Imagination: Science and Technology in Cultural
Perspective’
Summary of what it was about
This chosen journal is all about cultural perspectives upon
scientific as well as technological growth. This scholarly
literature is providing detailed info on science, technology,
and society (referred as STS) (Jamison et al., 2011). In this
way, within this journal the authors offered an alternate
approach while devoting special consideration towards the
role played through social and cultural movements in the
process of making of STS. Apart from this, the concept of
greening of science and technology has been discussed with
the help of politicization, making of green knowledge as well
as justice and environmentalism combination. Besides, the
authors introduced a new term a "hybrid imagination." The
paper is highlighting the fact that a hybrid imagination is
especially significant in this present era (Jamison et al., 2011).
In addition to that, the STS can be seen as a way to counter
the competitive as well as commercial "hubris". The written
journal also contained different perceptions of science and
technology while covering the rise of STS as a scientific
revolution. It is evident that this journal has been written
within Engineering Education while supported by the DSRC
throughout 2010 to 2013 (Jamison et al., 2011).

The article is useful for future career development and hence I
would like to provide insights that I acquired on ways of
thinking on technology and with their values for my future
career endeavors.
The insights I gained about ways of thinking about technology
I believe that science and technology (ST) is the base of every
individual’s personal and professional life. My views on what
I have learned from reading this journal is based on a
conviction that knowledge on social as well as cultural
contexts of ST is an important element of education related
to science and engineering. Based on (Forschungs-
Gemeinschaft, 2011), I realized that students, learners,
scholars, and other readers will be better capable to utilize
their technical and scientific knowledge for good purposes
after reading this book. Based on (Farhadi et al., 2012), I also
learned how STS can be used well as well as misused within
our wider global the public.
How and why I value this insight
I am going to further use values and skills gained from this
learning blog in the following ways:
As I am aware of how science and technology are misused in this
era, hence I will try to use them in the best possible way for the
self and others’ benefits and welfare.
I will integrate the knowledge regarding STS with my future
career development and organizations working in the future
workplace for the betterment of the organization.
I will always try to teach people around me about the ways of
using science and technology for positive reasons in the best
possible way while considering social welfare.
