REFLECTION
Playing role of interviewer has been considered as tough task that involves identification
of information about interviewee and analysis of various factors that differentiation the
individual for other candidates (Rao and Stupans, 2012). Present reflection report is based on my
role play interview with in class room my friend which was conducted by the tutor. In this role
play interview, I have played the role of director of Cleopatra spa that wants a manager to
manage the place, people and manager. A role play interview is considered as important exercise
which is usually conducted in educational institutions to provide learning about role and qualities
of good interviewer in organization. In this, candidates act out a scenario with either a group or
an interviewer in order to demonstrate the stability of individual for particular role. During my
personal role play interview it was asked by tutor to play a role of director of company which
that wants to hire manager (Safran and et.al., 2014). While taking an interview, it is very to be
prepared about the role which you are playing and consider all duties of an interviewer while
taking a proper interview from candidate. At the time of presentation, Various things I had
analysed that went and not well.
The most important thing is this task is to have information about the job responsibilities
of candidates in specific position (Cote Parra, 2012). In this task, I was not prepared to play a
role of interviews because it was promptly asked by tutor and I was not having information about
the role of manager in SPA. Due to this, I have some problems in asking questions. As an
interviewer, It was my role that I should present a proper and overall information about the
functions of enterprise as well as job responsibilities of manager to provide clear understanding
to interviewee. During the presentation, information which I provided to the candidates was not
appropriate because I was not having a proper knowledge and understanding about the functions
of Cleopatra Spa. That is why, I have only provided general information about the functions of
Spa and duties of manager but it was totally different and interviewee didn't understand what I
was trying to say.
Apart from this, it is important interviewer to ask relevant questions to the candidates in
order to realize their strengths, weakness, qualification and competencies to perform the job.
Interview needs to provide some challenging situations to the candidates in order to measure
their capabilities of resolving critical business problems (Mälkki, 2012). During role play

session, I was little nervous because it was my first task of role play and I was having proper
information about what type of questions are usually asked by interviewers in organization.
Therefore, I have asked some general questions from interviewee such name, family back
ground, qualification, previous experience and Hobbies etc. which was not enough as a
professional interviewer. I had not provided any challenging situation to the interviewee because
I was not prepared for role play task. This task was promptly undertaken by the tutor to analyse
our capabilities as interviewer in organization. Further, it is also important for interviewer to
specify their own roles and responsibilities in organization to the candidate but I was not having
specific knowledge about the roles and responsibilities of director due to which the interviewee
didn't get the clear understanding about my roles. The basic general question which I have asked
from candidate was, Tell me about yourself, why you need this job and do you know about
responsibilities of manager, despite of providing a chance to resolve a business problem. Positive
thing which I had realized was my efforts which I have made without having previous
experience and practices.
Further, it is important for an interviewer to keep an accurate pace and tone while asking
questions or providing information so that candidates will be able to clearly understand that what
interviewer is trying to convey and able to respond quickly (Latchem, 2012). In my role play
sessions, I was not confident about the questions which I have asked was correct or not due to
which I have faced problems in giving presentation. By getting the feedback from audience, I
have also identified that my pace of asking questions from candidates was very fast due to which
interviewee has not understood the question clearly. The reason behind this was lack of
understand about the qualities of good interviewer and I was also feeling nervous while asking
questions. At that time, my aim was to complete the presentation properly, but due disturbances I
have forgotten some words while asking questions and was able to provide correct response to
the candidate.
Other than this, it is also ability of interviewer to provide motivation to the interviewee
from his communication so that he will be able to develop a positive image in his mind about the
organization and job position (Moon, 2013). Taking an interview is a task of influencing the
candidate to provide his 100% and removing all the doubts. For an effective communication, it is
essential to have a proper command on English to frame the correct questions while taking an

interview and providing feedback (Giaimo-Ballard and Hyatt, 2012). In my case, I didn't feel
confident about my English as well and I had not correctly framed the questions and faced
difficulties in providing feedback after talking interviewee.
During this role play session, positive things which I have realized was the support of my
class mates which they have provided through their suggestion for further improvement and
providing feedback about my performance. I have realized that, if was prepared about the role
play I will definitely perform better than this. Without having an idea, I had played the role but I
have not said anything wrong about organization. My confidence while taking interview was low
and I was nervous but tutor has provided me motivation in completing the task effectively.
Therefore, I have decided to adopt all the suggestions which are provided by tutor so that I will
perform better in these type of role plays in the future.
