Response to Question 1
A perspective is a way we view the behaviors and the different aspects which are based
on various assumptions that we feel are generalized and yet are appropriate to study in the
psychological way. The psychological perspective and approaches to life activity make us unique
as it decides our path of action.
The cognitive perspective is the view of psychologists that deal with the human behavior
of solving problems and dealing with them owing to their internalized memory of how they have
been doing it from an early age (Epstude, and Johanna). This perspective shows itself on a daily
basis in as simple an action as choosing to wait for an elevator or taking the stairs to avoid
waiting. While on the other hand, the sociocultural perspective decides the way an individual
responds under the different social conditions and how they are influenced to react. The tendency
of different people to follow the actions of others shows how the sociocultural perspective
works.
Response to Question 2
The two perspectives which were most evident throughout the journal were the
sociocultural and the cognitive perspectives. I think they are the ones who are mostly used in
society to reach a decision of how to react under a particular situation. The sociocultural
perspective drives home the fact that specific actions are influenced by the social environment to
which the individual has been exposed to in their lifespan. It can be related to the mental health
or the politics of the place that one grows up with differential social factors in place (Amabile,
Teresa and Julianna). The journal shows the awkwardness shared by the whole class irrespective
of where they came from which generated from the sociocultural approach that everyone was

exposed to an entirely new and alien environment where they waited till one of them entered and
everyone followed.
The cognitive perspective depicted in the different stances in the journal shows the
retrieval of the memory of the action which has been saved by individuals coming into play
which we usually refer to as instincts. The most important one being stuck in the traffic even
when the green signal has been given and everyone starts blowing horns.
Response to Question 3
The precise implications of the psychological perspectives are that our actions are
dependent on all the aspects of our lives and it has an impact on the formation of the psychology
of a person. The psychological approaches help us to form our observations and judgments of an
individual based on the sociocultural environment he has been exposed and it helps us have a
comprehensive understanding of their behavior (Ormrod, Jeanne and Brett). The decision
making process is also dependent on the memories one picks up in from their surroundings and
the way people behave around them while they were in their developmental period of childhood
and adulthood.
The development perspective is interrelated with an evolutionary perspective where we
are prone to grow accustomed and adjust to a situation depending on the problem solving
capacity which is ingrained in the internal memory. It enhances the chances of survival and helps
in understanding the reason behind particular actions. The decision making process of an
individual comes into play when they unknowing takes into social and cultural factors and the
background of the information they have gathered (Ormrod, Jeanne and Brett). For example, the
way people deal with the hurdles they face is dependent on their perspective of the rise of it as

some people are a procrastinator and tend to overthink every aspect of a subject before coming to
a conclusion whereas others make the decision in split-second retrieving information to form one
subconsciously.
Response to Question 4
The application of the psychological approaches learned in everyday life is abundant if
used in the elementary form. We have already learned from our learning of the subjective
perspective that we can control our actions by controlling the environment we expose ourselves
to and the way we process and store information. This is directly effective to our cognitive
perspective as we react to a situation suddenly the way we have been living in a calmer situation.
In order to enhance our behaviorist and cognitive perspective we can indulge in various activities
that will play an essential role in the information stored in our subconscious (Epstude, and
Johanna). The biological habits are a bit challenging to change but with the help of the
behaviorist approach one can alter it. The shaping of character or personality is also dependent
on the psychological investigation of a person as described by Sigmund Freud which is framed
by the conscious and the subconscious.
The view of a person on the basis of his actions can be evaluated by placing their
activities according to the different schools of psychological perspectives. It is one of the most
useful aspect of the psychological school of thoughts that helps us to understand the way society
works and the way people function in their daily life.
