Introduction to Business

Introduction
This presentation will provide detailed information on different departments their
functioning within the company. It later describes about importance of team work
and collaborative work practices. Also, external and internal environment of the
company has been analysed for determining available opportunities and threats for
the business.
For this project, Sainsbury’s has been taken as the main company. It is the 2nd largest
chain of supermarket in UK which was incorporated in the year 1896.

Different Departments in the company
Business work of every organization is executed by different
departments’ according to their respective zones. The main
departments which execute business activities of Sainsbury’s are
explained as below:
Human resource
Marketing
Accounting and finance
Research & development

Importance of team work
Team work is comprehensively referred to as the collaboratively working of two or
more person for the same project or goal. It has been analysed that team work is
highly important for every business association as it helps them out in accomplishing
business goals in quicker manner. Also, combination of the good team helps business
in improvising their productivity level too as strengths of every team members
improves the speed of the works thus they are able to accomplish their respective
goals in quicker manner.

Collaborative work practices
Collaboration is referred to as the action taken towards performing the work with
someone in order to produce something more productive and effective. Every
business requires to acquire strong collaboration it’s all business departments so that
they all can together accomplish organisational goals in rightful manner. With
reference to Sainsbury’s it has been analysed that all the departments of this company
are inter related with one another which simply depicts that they are required to
execute their work with one another in such a manner so that respective goals and
objectives of each company could get accomplished in rightful manner.

Internal factors: strengths and weaknesses
Internal factors are said to be as factors available within the company
which ultimately holds capability of influencing business performance of
the company. With reference to Sainsbury’s, it has been analysed that the
respective business entity executes its business activities with the help of
four main departments such as human resource, marketing, finance and
research and development.

External factors
PEST analysis is an external environment screening framework that renders aid to the
companies in analysing the influence placed by extrinsic factors upon the business
operations
Political:
This constitutes the extent to which government can intervene within the operations of
a company by way of its legislations and powers.
Economic:
This encompasses the extent of development of the economy of a nation.

Opportunities and Threats
Strength of HR + Technological Factor = Opportunity
Strength of Marketing + Social Factor = Opportunity
Weakness of Accounting and Finance + Economic = Threat
Strength of Research and Development + Political = Opportunity

Conclusion
On the basis of overall information depicted in the presentation, it has been analysed that team work
and collaborative working practices directly provides support to the companies as they are able to
execute their business functions in rightful manner. In addition to this, it has been later analysed there
are several departments available in the company whose effective functioning helps company in
accomplishing their goals. In addition to this, external and internal factors have collaboratively
supported in determining available opportunity and threat for company which brings success to them.
