INTRODUCTION
The topic which is chosen for the research project is introduction of lunch order service
of Cranfield students. This topic is of great significance for the students as many of them want to
order lunch from different fast food places which are outside the campus and they don’t have the
access to those places. Having this service can also enable students who sometimes forgot to
bring their own food, a chance to buy food from outside from some other restaurant; they can
simply place an order with lunch order service of the institute and can get the desired lunch in
their campus (ecoliteracy.org, 2016). Lunch Order service can be started by the college on a
smaller scale by just using a group of 4-5 riders who go outside the campus in a specific area and
buy the lunch which is ordered by the students on outlets. There isn’t much of a cost involvement
in this, just a small salary of riders which can be easily recovered from the students in form of
delivery charges. If the service is started for students in campus there will not be any delivery
charges but just the food cost which will be made in the campus by chefs. This can also be
ordered by students as this along with riders will be a complete plan under lunch order service
for Cranfield students.
LITERATURE REVIEW
In UK, there are a lot of institutions and educational places which provide students with
top quality education and they come in masses as well. UK students and parents select institutes
based on many factors, some of these factors include quality of education, while others look at
the campus and location, and some also look at the services offered by the place (How it works |
Classroom Cuisine, 2016). Majority of these colleges are located in big cities of UK which
include Melbourne, Perth etc. Such services are extremely important for students living alone or
in hostels where there isn’t anybody making lunch for them. This can also include foreign or
international students just in UK to complete their education.
As a student, I can say that we love to eat fast food from different restaurants and we also like to
eat food or lunch which is provided by our family and is home cooked, but sometimes there is a
need to buy something extra from different restaurants and for that students do go out with
friends during lunch or break hours. As a result of going out, we come back to the campus late or

any unforeseen event can occur (Super User, 2016). To avoid this situation it’s always
appreciated that there is a service which can provide us lunch of our choice from the same place
but in our campus. I can safely say that this service can be of a great advantage and use for us as
students. There are many places already offering such service and we believe there is a strong
need that our college starts this service as well and can amend it a little to even better the
outcomes.
RESEARCH QUESTIONS
The research questions which this project is based upon are:
1. Is Lunch Order service for Cranfield Students is a Need?
2. Is hygienic or homemade lunch important?
3. Lunch Order service an added benefit which college provides?
4. Will you pay for Lunch Order service charges?
These questions will be answered after we have completed the research. To get the answer for
our research question we will have to follow a research methodology which we will design and
also work according to project plan which we have established before starting the project and
research work. The research question has significant importance in the overall project as it is the
key to the complete research and will enable us in taking this question as a base for the complete
project.
RESEARCH OBJECTIVES
The research objectives for this research as follows:
1) To analyze the need for Lunch Order Service in Cranfield Institute.
2) To realize the importance of Lunch order service for students and parents of Cranfield
Institute.
3) To assess the benefits lunch order service serves for the students.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
To start off our research process, we will be using two different approaches which are
normally used for extensive research. The first part of our research will be based on secondary
research which will enable us to have information on this topic from internet and different
websites, we will be researching for the information already searched by others and will use that
data to draw our perceptions and conclusions (Beins, 2012). This will also enable us to know
what people think about this service, how students think of the service in their campus, how
parents think about it? What are the pros and cons of such service? Secondly we will start off the
phase in which we will be doing Primary research which will take time and will be based on two
different stages, first of all we will do some interview sessions which will include sample size of
80 students. These students will all belonging to Cranfield; this data will contain students who
live in UK and some international students who just arrived in the country (Crowther, D. and
Lancaster, 2012). After this part is completed, we will move on to the questionnaire survey, these
questionnaires will be handed out to students and parents as well. A total of 500 is taken as
sample with 300 being students and 200 parents. Questionnaire will consist of close ended
questions only. All the data will be collected so that we can analyze it in later stage.
RESEARCH PROCESS:
We will be doing our research on 3 different stage. We will start our research project by
first conducting secondary research in which we will research on similar ventures and services
started by colleges around the globe and try to find out what outcome and responses such service
has generated. These responses and feedback will be by the students and parents who have used
these services (Gray and Malins, 2016). This will give us some information about the pros and
cons of such decision and service also will enable the institute to tackle the problems and
challenges which might arise in between. Once we have gathered around and collected
information by secondary research, we will proceed to primary research phase in which we will
be doing two different techniques, first of which is going to be interview sessions which will
have a sample size of 80 students which will include foreign and international students as well as
students who have been living in UK throughout their life (Roth and Fonagy, 2013). Interview
sessions will make us able to draw conclusion and gather information regarding their choices and
perceptions and what they really want because it’s an open ended session where the inputs of
Document Page
students are recorded as it is (Wynn Jr and Williams, 2012). Main questions which we will be
asking them will include questions related to what lunch they bring to college. Is it home
cooked? Would they like lunch service idea? What are the advantages of lunch service? All of
these are open ended questions which will invite detailed discussions. After this phase is
completed we will move on to the second and final phase of primary research, in this we will be
circulating questionnaires to students and parents, involving parents in this stage is a big step
because they are the decision makers in most situations (Lull, 2014). Having included parents
and students in questionnaire survey method would give us a clear idea of what they want.
Questionnaires will be distributed to a total of 500 people, out of which 300 will be students and
the rest 200 will be parents. Questionnaires to students will be given in campus and classrooms
(Psacharopoulos, 2014). For parents an email will be generated and circulated to them so they
can fill the questionnaire and send back to us with their inputs.
DATA COLLECTION & ANALYSIS METHOD:
Data will be collected in all the 3 stages of our research process, first of all we will
collect and gather data related to secondary research which is mostly concerned with
background, introduction, literature review and some inputs of previous situations similar to our
college. This data will be recorded in excel format. The main headers which will be used are age,
gender, profession, level or class (Creswell, 2013). Along with this data collection will mainly be
concerned with primary data collection which will be because of the extensive research done in
form of interviews and survey questionnaire. Questionnaires will all have a standard format
which is similar to the one used above and will include age, gender, profession, level or class,
along with this we will also include the mode of lunch they are using now, home cooked or ready
meal purchased? Etc. After gathering all the data in one place we will be able to analyze the data
for consistency and draw our results and responses along with conclusion which can prove our
research as a success or failure depending on what answer we get after the research completion,
our research question will be answered and we are hoping to get a positive answer (Gravetter and
Forzano, 2015). Once the data is collected in Excel file, it will be run through some test and
some formulas of excel which will be statistical, that will include calculation of mean, mode,
average, standard deviation, median. All of these data analysis will be done with 5% error

probability. The data collected and recorded will be in uniform format and which will enable us
to do our research easily and with accuracy.

EXPECTED OUTCOME:
Before starting the research we expected certain outcomes in form of inputs and views
which will be shared by the sample and research participants which will be related to our
research topic and research question. We believed that students and parents both will appreciate
the idea of having lunch service for Cranfield students (How a fed-up mum and dad launched an
online school lunch business - SecurePay, 2016). We also figured out that students currently are
bringing lunch mainly after someone at their home made or cooked it for them and the reason
being hygienic lunch and good quality. But we were aware that majority of foreign or
international students who are living in hostels are only able to buy lunch from outside and get it

here instead of some homemade lunch so they would appreciate an idea of lunch service which is
offered by the institute (Katz, 2015). All of these were our understandings before starting the
research and we believed that because of all these students and parents both will really want to
have lunch service started in Cranfield and our research in the end proves the point. We were
correct in predicting the outcome and researched has supported our statement.
This project and research was extremely important and it was only possible because of
continuous support and guidance from our senior fellow students and some faculty members
(lunch order service, 2016). The main credit goes to our faculty member of research department
who helped us in preparation of project plan without which nothing was possible. He also helped
us in expanding the horizon of our research and not limiting it to just students and includes
parents as well. The idea of including foreign students was an added point in our research as they
are the main target audience for this service (Petty, Thomson and Stew, 2012).
