AI Summary
This report provides a detailed forensic analysis of case 5854/19, focusing on three major crimes: attempted vehicle arson, attempted murder, and drug-facilitated sexual assault. The investigation assesses the evidence gathered from the crime scene, including clothing, vehicle examination, and toxicology reports to determine the involvement of Jamie Wood and Daniel Mansfield, and the occurrence of sexual assault on Tracey Blenkinsop. The report reviews relevant literature on drug use, sexual assault, and attempted murder, and outlines the methods used for evidence collection and analysis, including presumptive and confirmatory tests for semen, drug analysis, and DNA analysis. The findings highlight the evidential value of various exhibits, such as high vaginal swabs, buccal swabs, and samples from the crime scene, and their implications in proving or disproving the alleged crimes. The discussion section prioritizes the importance of various pieces of evidence due to the limitations of cost and time, with a focus on the significance of fingerprint and DNA evidence. The report concludes with recommendations for further investigation, emphasizing the need to gather evidence for future investigation by medical experts, including the use of mass spectroscopy and gas chromatography to identify drugs. The report is designed to guide Crime Scene Investigators on exhibits with high evidential implication and refute or support the allegations of an attempted murder, vehicle arson and drug facilitated sexual assault.

Executive summary
The paper helped in evaluating the case 5854/19 by facilitating guidance to the Crime Scene
Investigator by advising on exhibits with high evidential implication guidance were provide to
that refute or supports the allegations of an attempted murder, vehicle arson and drug facilitated
sexual assault. Major techniques and methods were compared and utilized by gaining
information from Medical examiner regarding the exhibits. In order to analyze several exhibits
there was restricted cost and time. It was recommended to gather evidences for future
investigation by medical experts. The evidences helped in solving the problem whether Tracey
Blenkinsop got sexually assaulted and the major reason behind the attempt to set fire in the
vehicle and whether Jamie Wood was suspected in both the situations.

Introduction
Based on the case 5854/19, the investigation was done based on 3 significant crimes such as an
attempted vehicle arson, attempted murder and drug facilitated sexual assault.
Attempted Murder
Within this case, Jamie Wood was the victim who was attempted to murder in Albert Park,
Middlesbrough which occurred in Wood’s vehicle GC18 FTR. While investigating for this
crime, the cloths of the victim will be utilized and to recognize anything that may result in
linking Daniel Mansfield or someone else within the crime by utilizing presumption testing for
blood.
Vehicle arson
The attempted arson of Wood’s vehicle GC18 FTR, has been recovered from Albert Park,
Middlesbroug. For further investigation the vehicle will be examined to recognize clues based on
the attempted murder and main cause of the fire.
Drug facilitated sexual assault
The first crime took place at King Edwards Square, Middlesbrough, where the property belonged
to Jamie Wood with Tracey Blenkinsop as the deceptive victim. The purpose of this
investigation will be to conduct examination to refute or support the evidence of sexual assault or
medical or circumstantial examiners report to determine whether sexual intercourse has
happened. Later circumstantial and toxicology evidence can be utilized to recognize any drug in
Tracey’s body or whether the sex assault was drug facilitated.
Literature Review
Use of drug
Depending upon the symptoms demonstrated by the victim, Gamma Hydroxybutyrate (GHB) is
regarded as a constituent that must have been utilized. GHB is determined to be a commonly
used constituent at the time of date rape that is a neutral and odorless drug that can be mixed
with alcohol and then given to victim to become injured because of tranquillizing impact of GHB

and the victim cannot attack sexual intercourse (Arendt et al., 2018). GHB can also induce
amnesia as per Dr. Joan Beeby’s statement.
Sexual Assault
In order to have probable testing for semen the most commonly used method is an Acid
Phosphate. It can also be utilized presumptively as it develops incorrect positive reaction with
vaginal, urine and blood secretions. Thus, a confirmatory test is required to be conducted where
the microscope slides are needed to be evaluated and created for identifying the presence of
semen. In case if semen and tails are present this states the occurrence of sexual intercourse
within the past 24 hours. Moreover, the sperm cells can also be taken to acquire a DNA profile,
if the little amount of sperm heads are originated than a Laser Capture Micro-dissection (LCM)
can be used (Cox et al., 2016). This is regarded as a histology-related method for the separation
of actual cells from the varied situation that allows the elimination of sperm heads from a
microscope slide that may result into greater likelihood of acquiring an overall profile of DNA.
This will be useful at the time of sexual intercourse as the part of female’s body can be
irresistible. In case if the AP test is positive with the absence of sperm heads, at that time Y-STR
summarizing can be utilized which will be useful when olgospermic or azoospermic males
dropped the sample (Cox, 2017). This particular technique will allow to acquire a profile for
comparing it with National DNA database (NDNAD) or suspects.
Attempted Murder
The police investigate the incident after a crime is reported to them. A police officer is required
to handle the case, and that particular individual is responsible for preparing and investigating
the case. At the time of police investigation related to a murder case, the police will talk with the
criminal along with the family members of the victim. They may take away items or take
photographs as evidence to address the case (van den Eeden, de Poot and Van Koppen, 2016).
Having sufficient evidence will help the police to arrest and charge the accused with a criminal
offence. During the investigation process, the police will focus on the safety of the victim’s
family members.

Methods
There comprise of several pieces of evidence related to this particular case which might possess
cost and time restrictions (LePard et al., 2015). Thus, there is a need to have an order of evidence
to identify the appropriate evidence. In this particular case, the forensic examiners scrapped the
bit of fluid and took it to the lab for further analysis.

Results/Data/Findings
Out of 54 exhibits, it has been found sexual intercourse has occurred where JB2 possess a lower

Discussion
Aims
The aim of the investigation is to disapprove or approve the crimes and identify the cause of
crime based on three major crimes vehicle arson, attempted murder and drug facilitated sexual
assault. The huge number of exhibits are required to be prioritized due to the limitations of cost
and time (Vujić, Commandeur and Koopman, 2016). The scale has been developed by experts to
identify the level of agreements within the court. Moreover, fingerprints can be considered to be
the conclusive evidence and valuable if presented in the court.
Sexual Assault
The first point to prove is that whether Tracey Blenkinsop was sexually assaulted which needs to
be proved with the help of exhibits. It is seen that the intimate swab determines the occurrence of
sexual assault that can be supported with the help of the evidences such as JB26 high vaginal
sample to prove DNA profile and JB16 Black knickers with a tear to the left hand side.
Moreover, JB30 Casual swab proves that sexual assault has been occurred in both anal and
vaginal penetration.
Drug use
For drug use it has been analyzed that JB1 Urine sample will help in identifying the presence of
GHB that helps in making individuals incapacitated. Moreover, swab of rim and cup helps in
conducting DNA test to analyze the possible source of drug smoking.
Attempted murder
The crimes that occurred within the case are related with vehicle GC18 FTR and the vehicle was
set on fire for the process of investigation and to identify if someone else is involved within the
crime by utilizing the exhibits such as suspected blood, iPhone 4S and fingerprint.
Further information
Apart from the evidence mentioned above, it would be beneficial to obtain a witness statement
from Wood along with the description of the suspect and event that will lead to target
investigation. A witness statement from Newport can be used in the form of digital forensic
