ABSTRACT
From the study below it is identified that providing training to employees is the major
responsibility of company in order to get successful. The major reason underlying this fact is that
training improves the knowledge and working efficiency of employees to a great extent. This is
pertaining to the fact that when employees are given training relating to latest changes then this
motivates employees that company is taking care of development of employees. Hence, the
employees in turn try to work in proper and effective manner and assist them in attaining aim of
business.
From the literature review section, it was found that there are several methods of training
which are helpful in providing training. These methods were instructor led learning, e- learning,
mentoring and many others. Further it was identified that if company employs trained staff then
this assist business in attaining its objectives in proper and effective manner and improve its
business. With the help of research methodology section, it was seen that use of quantitative
research type was useful in getting the views of various respondent relating to training and
development. Further with help of data analysis and discussion it was clear that training is very
important for company to use. In the end some recommendation for improvement were provided
like use of on the job training method, including soft skill training and many others.

CHAPTER 1- INTRODUCTION
Background
Training and development is very essential to be used in the corporate business world and
this is essential because of the reason in global business there are many different types of
advancement and continuous changes (Rodriguez and Walters, 2017). Thus, training and
development for employees of organization is very essential to provide them with opportunities
of growth and development. The training is defined as providing of information and knowledge
relating to things in which people are lacking. If company will provide for proper training and
development for the employees, then this will motivate employees to work in company in happy
and satisfied manner.
On the other side retaining of employees is defined as influencing the employees to not
leave company and go to some other company or competitors. The major reason behind this is
that if large number of employees leaves company then this decreases goodwill of company
(Holland and Collins, 2020). The major reason underlying this is the fact that if employee
turnover is high then it implies that company is not providing better services and good working
environment to employees and due to that reason they are leaving company (Employee turnover:
definition, types, causes of employee turnover, 2017).
The current research is based over company Zara which is a large Spanish retailer dealing
in apparel. This company mainly specializes in fashion products like shoes, clothes, different
accessories, beauty products and other related goods and services to consumer. The company
was founded by Rosalia Mera and Amancio Ortega and was founded in year 1974 and was
headquartered in Municipality of Arteixo which is placed in Spain. The current study will outline
importance of training and development in retention of employees within company for a longer
period of time. This retention is essential for company to manage as there are many different
types of advancement taking place in working environment which may affect the working of
company (Abba, 2018). Thus, for this training and development is very essential for company to

use as in fashion industry there are frequently many changes and upgradation which company
need to adapt.

are conducting similar research and for competitors of Zara as well. This is due to the fact that
techniques used by Zara can also be applied to other competitors as well.
Rationale
In this highly competitive world there are many different types of changes which are
frequently taking place in external environment of business. The major reason for selection of
topic of importance of training for retention of employees within company I that training is
current issue. This is necessary because of reason that when employees will be acquainted with
different types of training related to latest changes taking place in external environment then they
will be motivated. In addition to this another major reason for selection of topic is that this will
assist the company in improving working capacity of company. In addition to this another major

Structure of dissertation Introduction- this is the first chapter of dissertation which deals with introducing topic of
research and aim and objective relating to topic of research. This also includes the reason
for selection of research topic. Literature review- this is the section of dissertation in which various types of articles and
different published articles and other journal and published data relating to research topic
is selected. Research methodology- under this section of dissertation various methods relating to
research are selected with reason for selection as well. This is a section which will list out
all methods used for completion of selection. Data analysis- the data analysis section is the one which deals with analysis of collected
data relating to research topic. Here complete set of data is analysed and evaluated to
draw some meaning from it.
Conclusion and recommendation- this is the last section of dissertation which includes
drawing conclusion from data evaluated in data analysis section. Here conclusion is
drawn and the recommendation is provided for improvement of work.

with the help of the articles, journals and other published data sources relating to the research

chapter which will gather the secondary data from the already published source like different
types of books, journals, articles and other published data. In this different view of different
authors and publishers and it is critically reviewed (Noe and Kodwani, 2018). In simple words

will be criticized and evaluated. This is done in order to gain some detailed information and
knowledge relating to the topic of research.
Theme 1: Role of training in business organization
Memon, Salleh and Baharom (2016) stated that, training is one of the key significant
procedure which is highly significant in better development of key skills of human within
organization. Training is one of the key prominent measure which helps in increasing the skills
and key relevant knowledge of employees in order to carry out specific job. Training is of utmost
priority for organization because it leads to high degree of success and development to company.
It is highly beneficial and fruitful for employees and employers of organization. Highly trained
employees must effectively focus on becoming highly productive and efficient. Training has key

the employees will undergo the different types of the training methods then they will realize the
areas in which they are lacking. Thus, this is the major role and importance of training and

On the contradictory side Hoffman and Burks (2017) argues that the major role of
training within the company is to increase the goodwill or the reputation of the company. The
major motive behind this is that when the company is using all the latest methods and techniques
of providing training to the employees then this will create a good image of the company. In
addition to this it will also create a good image of the company among the consumers as they
will like the fact that the company is taking care of the employees by providing them
acquaintance with the latest trends going on in the business environment. Moreover, this will
build and increase the trust and loyalty of the employees towards the company. The major reason
underlying this fact was that when company will take care of the employee and their personal
and professional development then this will increase the morale of the employees.
Furthermore, in addition to this Ismail (2016) criticized that major role or importance of
training and development within company is increase in innovation and creativity level of
employees. The reason stating this is that when employees will be having more knowledge of
latest techniques and trends going on in the external environment then this will help them in
thinking innovatively. Thus, this will result into better working and increase in their efficiency of
the employees. With the assistance of the latest technology and the latest trend the employees
will be able to think in more innovative and better manner and this will enhance the working
capacity of the employees and will develop more new and innovative ideas and will assist in

employees within company is instructor led training. This is a method of training under which

this method is very easy and simple. Another major benefit of using the E- learning mode of
training is that this also saves time and money as the online mode is easily accessible. Further,
this also increases the retention of employees within the company. The major reason underlying
this is that when employees will be provided with easy training then they will like this and will
work with more efficiency and effectiveness. Thus, this will increase the retention of employees

Research methods are defined as the various methods which are being selected in order to
complete the research. This chapter of dissertation includes list of various methods of research
which are assistive in managing and completing the research in successful manner. Thus, this
chapter will outline all various methods which will be used by researcher in completion of
research.
Research type- the type of research is defined as the method or the type through which
the whole research will be carried on. Deciding the method of research is the most important task
as this will assist the researcher in deciding for the method to select for completion of whole
research (Humphries, 2017). The research type is of two different ways that is qualitative and
quantitative research. The qualitative research type is one under which attributes and values and
non- numeric information relating to research topic will be collected and analysed.
On the flip side the quantitative type of research is the one under which numeric and
factual information is being assimilated and analysed in order to complete the research. In order
to conduct the study on investigating the importance of training for reducing employee turnover
is quantitative type of research. The reason for the selection of quantitative type of research is
that this provides for more accurate and related result with the reality.
Research approach- the approach is defined as the plan and procedure which underlay
the selection of the plan or procedure at time of collecting data, analyse and interpret the

importance of training is deductive approach. The criteria for selecting deductive approach is that
this assist in providing more logical and relevant information.
Research philosophy- the research philosophy is a concept which deals with the beliefs
which are underlying the way or path through which the data is gathered and assimilated. The
philosophy is very essential to be selected as this will assist researcher in selecting appropriate

The data can be gathered with help of two sources that is primary and secondary data. The

whole of population for purpose of research. Thus, for this the researcher select some of the
people from the whole population which is called sample and the process of selecting samples is
known as sampling (Tiwari, Arya and Bansal, 2017). The sampling can be done in two different
manners that is probabilistic and non- probabilistic sampling. Under the probabilistic there is
chance of every participant to become sample. On the other side under non- probabilistic there is
less chance of every participant to become sample. For completion of research on importance of
training in retaining employee’s researcher has used sample of 50 employees of company.
Data analysis- this is also a very important aspect of the research as if the collected data
will not be analysed and evaluated in proper way then this will not bring out expected result. The
data is related with the research topic and is collected with help of the questionnaire. Then after
the collection of data, use of frequency distribution analysis is used in order to analyse data
(Ratnam, 2019). Thus, with help of this analytical tool researcher was able to analyse data and

reach to some conclusion. With help of data analysis researcher tries to reach to conclusion and
attain aim and objective of whole study.
Ethical consideration- this is the most essential aspect for researcher to take into
consideration. The major reason underlying this fact is that if researcher will not follow ethical
principles then the research will not be completed in effective manner. The major reason
underlying this is that if research does not make use of ethical principles then research will not
be of good quality. Thus, for this major ethical consideration is to keep records and data and
information of respondent very secure and confidential. Another major ethical consideration is
that researcher must first get signed the ethical approval form from respondent (Pruzan, 2016).
This is necessary as with this form respondent permits researcher to use personal information of
respondent within research.
Research limitation- every aspect has some or other limitation in same manner the
research also has some limitation which researcher faces at time of conducting research. The
major limitation faced by researcher is time provided for research. This was a limitation as the
time which was allotted for completion of research was very limited. But then also the researcher
managed to complete whole of research in successful and effective manner.
In addition to this another major limitation was of the resources as resource and material
for research are very limited (Huang, Fang and Chen, 2017). Thus, the researcher has to use
limited resources only in order to complete whole of research. But even after limited resources,
researcher was able to manage the research in good way by optimally using the limited resources
in effective manner. Though there were many limitations but then also researcher overcome
those with help of good and effective skills.

Training is considered to be as an action of undertaking a specific session or a course of
action to improve the relevant skills set and knowledge of the individual person. Training is
given to employees for the specific goals and improving the one’s own capability of the
individual person. Training and development is referred to as the educational set of activity
within the company which is prominent in enhancing the skills and knowledge of the employees
to provide information and helps in performing the specific tasks (The importance of training
and development in the workplace, 2020). Training has key relevant role in improving the one's
own capacity, performance, capability and productivity of the organization. Training helps in
acquiring and applying the ability, skills, attitude and knowledge which helps in performing
specific job within the company. Training and development will assist the employees in
addressing the key significant issues that has been faced to improve various methods of training.
Moreover, training and development within company is increase in innovation and creativity
level of employees. With the assistance of the latest technology and the latest trend the
employees will be able to think in more innovative and better manner. It is considered to be
significant in developing new and innovative set of ideas and also assist in improving the
performance and work of the company. Training is useful because it allows the employees to
acquire key relevant new skill and knowledge, sharpen the skill set, increasing productivity,
performing better and helps to be a significant leader within the market. A training program
helps in strengthening those skills where each employee needs to work on to gain higher
operational goals and standards. A training and development program is significant in bringing
all employees of the firm to a higher level so they can perform their job with utmost degree of

within the company and tends to rely heavily on others to carry out basic tasks of organization.

to the company. It is significant in improving their skills to perform certain task with high degree

considered to be prominent because it helps in ensuring that the company has greater degree of
consistent experience. Training helps in increasing the key efficiencies and results in high degree
of financial gains to the organization. Training and development is also significant in increasing
and also enhancing the reputation of the company and improves the profile of the employees. A
training program is useful in addressing any weakness within the employee and boost up the
performance level. Improving the performance of the employees will be useful in gaining greater
set of benefit and is useful in creating strong set of position to enhance the performance of the

Conclusion
With the above study it is concluded that providing of training to the employees is very
essential for the success of the company. The major reason behind this fact is that the business
exists in the dynamic and ever- changing world and due to these changes it is essential for
company to provide training. The training is important as this assist company in acknowledging
the employees with all the latest changes and as a result of this employees are happy and
satisfied with the working. From the above study it was clear that formulation of aims and
objectives is major step in success of dissertation. The major fact underlying this is that aim and
objective assist and provides direction to researcher in completing study in successful manner.
Further with assistance of research it was outlined that literature review was also helpful
in completing research. The major reason underlying this fact is that with help of literature
review views and opinions of different authors relating to research topic are analysed. This
supports research in positive and effective manner and leads to successful completion of
research. This was helpful in discussing research topic that is importance of training in managing
and reducing employee turnover. Further with help of section of research methodology it was
found that research methods are decided in advance and this assist researcher in conducting the
research in proper and effective manner.
From the above part of discussion and data analysis it was found that providing of
training to employees is very beneficial for company. The major reason for this is that training
motivates employees as they have a thinking that company is taking care of employees by
providing them training. The training is provided for latest and recent changes which are taking
place in current business environment. If employees of company will not be having proper
knowledge of recent changes then this will have a great impact over their performance and this in
turn will affect overall performance of company. Hence, because of this reason it is very crucial
for company to provide for better training to employees. Also, from the above discussion it was
found that there are many different types of training methods which are very useful in providing
training to employees. These methods were like instructor led training, mentoring, role play and
many other. In the end it was also analysed that employing of trained employees is of
significance to company as this will assist company in improving its working and performance.

Recommendation
From the above discussion it is clear that providing of training to employees is very
important for company. Thus, they have to provide good quality of training to employees. Hence,
for this some of the major recommendation for Zara in improving its training pattern are as
follows-
The major recommendation to company is to focus majorly on “on the job” training
method. The major reason underlying this fact is that when employees are provided with
training along with their job then this will motivate employees to work in better and
effective manner.
Another major recommendation to Zara is to include soft skill training along with other
training to employees. The major reason behind providing of soft skill training is that this
will assist employees in developing in much better and advance manner. The soft skill
includes training relating to effective decision making, leadership, time management,
communication, problem solving and many other skills must be provided to employees.
Along with this another major recommendation for improving training in company by
Zara is to provide reward and recognition to employees who are under training. The
major reason underlying this is that if employees under training will be getting rewards
then this will motivate employees to train themselves in good and effective manner.
In addition to this another major recommendation for Zara is to continuously have a
department or a person employed who will work on researching for latest changes. This
is essential as this will assist company in managing all changes taking place in external
environment and try to provide training of that to employees.
Furthermore, another major recommendation is to first analyse the capabilities of
employees that is analyse the fact that whether employee require training or not. This is
necessary as if employee is already having knowledge of present change then providing
training to them is useless. Hence, this analysis of potential employee for training will
help company in scheduling training for those employees who are need.
