Industrial/Organizational (I/O) Psychology as mentioned by Michael G. Aamodt
(2013), in the book “Applied Industrial/Organizational Psychology”, deals with applying the
principles of psychology in a professional business organization. According to him, after a
thorough research, the various factors that helps in job satisfaction and motivation of the
employees can be categories in to three factors namely Organizational Psychology, Personal
Psychology and the Human Factors. As mentioned the various factors contributing to the
employee’s motivation may include the various extrinsic rewards include those monetary
rewards like the monthly pay, bonuses and the various monetary incentives. In addition, the
various intrinsic rewards like the Non-Monetary rewards and recognitions (Ajmal et al. ,
2015). Along with these, the working environment of the Business Organization plays an
important in employees’ motivation during this ever-changing business environment. The
positive dynamic relationship between the employer and the employees and among the
employees itself, equal representation of both male and female staff plays an important role
in employees motivation and retention. In addition, the leadership style of a business
organization plays an important role in the motivation of the employees. Leader who uses the
democratic or participatory leadership style and are resourceful, inspiring always working for
the betterment of its staffs are more like to motivate its employees in much effective way than
the others.
Talking about my experience with job satisfaction, few years back when my aged
mother suffered a major heart attack and I was not able to go the office for a decent period of
time, my boss and all my college was supportive. They all visited my mother in hospital and
my boss gave me some extra bonus for my mother treatment.
