In a business firm several activities are being initiated in terms of monetary as well as
non-monetary. Considering rise in complexities and competition in current business environment
managers at several business firms adopts various strategies to ensure proper functioning of
respective workforce. In the process being respective functional areas in business organisation
are being evaluated and are being guided through use of leadership and management strategies.
The present report will highlight operational activities of a small electronics based firm i.e. “IOM
Electronics Ltd”. Respective firm is operating with strength of total 200 employees with its
existence in Liverpool and Manchester. The presented report will highlight respective functional
areas of the given organisation and related employability skills needed to perform with best
productivity in such functional areas (Buchwald and et. al., 2018).

Functional areas in a business organisation represents inherit departments through which
various business activities are being governed. The ideology behind separating different
functional areas in a business firm is purely dedicated for extraction of best possible use of
business resources for attainment of pre-decided goals and objectives of the business firm. In
relation to chosen firm i.e. IOM Electronic Ltd., managers govern respective activities though
the following functional areas, these are as follows;
Human resources
Recruitment of deserving individual in company is probably the most well-known
activity which is to be performed in a business organisation. With a believe human resources
managers at IOM Ltd., undergo several human resources management techniques to fill in
suitable candidate at the right place and at right time. Such functional areas in business enterprise
is considered to be the most important, as they are the resources which are responsible for
conversion of other raw materials or resources of the company into finished goods (Chown,
2018). There are several skills which are required in an individual candidate to apply for a post in
such functional area of a business enterprise. Skills required are as follows;
Communication skills: Such type of skills includes effectively communicating important
information or data to an individual. This is the most important skill which is required in an

company. Further, this skill also enhance good impression of its operational working, as in some
regions this functional area of business is also considered as the face of company (Fenker and

regular affairs in a business organisation. This process includes evaluating facts and building
proper strategy which suits at the best with external as well as internal environment of the
business firm. An individual with this type of skill is able to carry or lead a team under complex
and uncertain business environment.
Accounting and finance
Such functional area in a business firm is considered to be lifeblood of a company. In this
functional area several activities are performed which relates to recording up of financial
transaction of given business firm. Such functional area in a business firm provides useful
information in regards to decision-making process in several other departments of company.
Further, these functional areas in business enterprise in useful in highlighting true position of a
company in given marketplace and also is considered for intra as well as inter comparisons. This
functional area in a business firm comes under technical department, therefore, an individual
should be well nourished with following skills, these are as follows;
Patience: This skill in an individual suggests enhance better presence of mind of an
individual under stressed situations and also promotes effective working under pressure situation.
In regards to given functional area, this skill is highly required in an individual. As in this
functional area there might be frustrating situations which would cause hindrance towards
effective working of the company.
Honesty: Respective skill in an individual suggest policy of being honest in disclosure of
all material facts and running financial activity in a business firm as per the given policy and
requirements. This skill is highly valued by recruiter of a company and individuals with this
skills are being given deserving reward for their dedicated performance for the given

Marketing
This department in operational firm plays an important role in regard to provide a good

skill required in an individual for applying in a marketing post;
Innovative: Considering present working environment of the business firm being
innovative is treated as the best skill which is to be employed in an individual. In regards to
given functional area of a business firm being innovative proves to be great skill as being
engaged in marketing activities which suggests promoting products and services of the company.
Therefore, for gaining a better competitive advantage marketers of the firm should be innovative

Problem-solving: As per this skill an individual with problem solving skills is nourished
with excellence in knowledge of material facts and also carries deep researching skills.

on effective working of this department. This is a technical process in which an individual should

an individual to get placement in this function area in business organisation are as follows;
Accountable: Skill of being accountable refers to performing up of given tasks with its
completion at the given deadline. This skills initiates environment of better working in an
organisational firm and also provides good opportunity to the firm in regards to increase its
productivity.
Helpful: Being helpful is counted as a skill in modern business times. Such skills are
helpful for managers of the firm to initiate better coordinative efforts. This allows organisational

Customer service
In this department after sales services of a said company is being undertaken. Operational
working of business under this functional area depends on establishing effective consumer
relations with respective clients of the business firm. It is believed that, if in an organisational
firm better relations are being formulated with customers present in given operational market,
then company is able to establish better brand loyalty and also gives rise to better goodwill of the
given workforce. This type of functional area in business organisation provides with additional
services to valuable customers of the company who have purchased any product of the company.
This department in the firm is engaged in resolving conflicts arise in using any product or service
being purchased from the company or any other related information relating to product
description of working of any specific product. Skills to be required by an individual to perform
effectively in such functional area are as follows;
Loyal: Such skill in an individual personality provides a great boost to once chances of
effectively working under such functional area of the business firm. An individual being loyal in
an organisation contributes to great cause for a given operation firm which further help firm to
achieve glory of success.
Innovative: Being innovative is treated as the most important skill. This skill in specific
functional area of the business help managers to formulate effective relations with its clients.
Conclusion
From the above analysis it can be concluded that, business firm is an inclusion of several
functional areas. There are number of skills which are required in order to perform activities in
such functional areas effectively. The presented report presents operational working of various
functional areas of business with required skill set for an individual for application of job in such
section of departments.
