Recommendation 4: Increase the proportion of nurses with a baccalaureate degree
to 80% by 2020.
Nurses are in an ideal position to propagate change within the healthcare workforce. I
therefore see myself fitting in IOM future of nursing recommendation to increase the proportion
of nurses with a baccalaureate degree to 80% by 2020 by earning my bachelor’s degree before
the end of the year 2020. According to Gooch. (2015), the transformation of the health care
system and the practice settings demand for the same nursing education change. This is because I
am working so hard so that I may not have obstacles in obtaining my degree. In regards to my
hard work and commitment in achieving my bachelor’s degree, I therefore expect myself to be
among the 80% nurses with baccalaureate.
Recommendation 5: Double the number of nurses with a doctorate by 2020.
I also see myself fitting in the recommendation to double the number of nurses with a
doctorate by 2020 by furthering my studies immediately after obtaining my practice license.
Although I will not have obtained my doctorate, I will assist in conducting research that is
essential for evidence-based practice.
Recommendation 6: Ensure that nurses engage in lifelong learning.
Additionally, I see myself fitting in the recommendation to ensure that nurses engage in
lifelong learning by making the practice of lifelong learning in my life. To achieve this, I will
focus on the most important aspects of nursing so that I may be able to develop good
communication, research and problem-solving skills, all of which are essential for a lifelong
learner. Since I am self-motivated and committed towards the IOM future nursing
