IoT-based Healthcare Application
Organization Overview
XYZ is a healthcare centre that is based out of Brisbane, Australia. The healthcare centre was
established in 2004 and has been able to capture excellent market share since then. The
healthcare centre comprises of 75 medical staff that comprises of doctors, nursing staff, and
assistants. The organization recently had set-up a specialized facility for the patients for
quicker treatment and diagnosis. However, there is a lot of burden on the medical
professionals associated with the medical centre with the increase in the number of patients.
The patients also experience longer waiting hours due to the same reason.
Project Description
The project that is proposed to the healthcare centre is IoT-based Healthcare Application.
Internet of Things (IoT) is a technology that inter-connects varied set of components with
each other to carry out a common goal. The application will be developed for the patients to
allow them to carry out tele-health monitoring of their health conditions. Diagnosis and
assistance will also be provided to them remotely eliminating the need to visit the healthcare
centre (Harsh, 2017). The application will allow the patients to record their health signs
which will be transferred to their respective medical professionals. The medical reports and
comments will be shared over the web platform.
Project Benefits
The project will provide following benefits to the organizations and its associated
stakeholders.
ï‚· Patient engagement and satisfaction levels will improve with the reduction in the
waiting hours.
ï‚· Medical professionals will be able to perform better with the reduction of the burden.
ï‚· Revenues will improve by 35% in the first quarter after the implementation of the
application (Dziak, Jachimczyk & Kulesza, 2017).
ï‚· The organization will be able to gain competitive edge in the market.
Project Objectives
ï‚· To implement an IoT-based healthcare application for patients and medical
professionals as per the quality and healthcare standards.

IoT-based Healthcare Application
ï‚· To meet the project schedule and costs estimated for the project.
Project Priorities
ï‚· Healthcare standards as Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA)
and others will be kept at the top priority to maintain the adherence levels.
ï‚· The project requirements will be kept at the top priority at the time of the execution of
project tasks.
ï‚· The customer feedback and analysis will be kept at the next priority level and the
changes will be made accordingly.

Project Plan
Project Approach
The approach that will be used to manage the project will be Project Management Body of
Knowledge (PMBoK). According to this approach, the management of the project activities
will be done in five process groups as initiation, planning, execution, control, and closure
(Cuevas, Gil, Sanchez & Hernandez, 2018). These five phases will then be applied to the
development methodology as Agile Methodology for Software Development. The
development of a web interface and the design activities will be handled using the agile
methodology. The management and the development methodologies will be integrated and
kept in sync with each other to carry out the project tasks and activities (Altameem, 2015).
Project Scope
There will be a lot of activities that will be carried out by the project resources as a part of the
project. The initiation phase shall include the healthcare data collection and its analysis to
determine the major flaws and loopholes in the existing process. Needs assessment shall be
done to identify and propose the project. The project shall be approved by the Project
Sponsor and the planning activities shall include the finalization of project approach and
scope. The requirements analysis and definition shall be done as Functional, Non-Functional,
User. The other project areas that shall be planned out shall be risks, resources, stakeholder,
quality, schedule, and budget. The resources for the project shall be tagged and shall be
allocated with their respective duties and responsibilities. Procurement of gadgets &
healthcare equipment shall be done along with network design and architecture. Application
design and the development of its code along with the integration of the elements and unit
testing shall be done (Zwikael, 2009). Test creation and conduction of test activities will be
included in the scope along with the implementation at the client side. User acceptance
testing, audits and management of the changes will be done. The final phase will be the
closure phase in which user feedback and analysis will be done followed by conduction of
training processes. Reflection and lessons acquired along with IoT application documentation
shall be done with submission of the closure report as the final activity.
Project Scheduling
The technique that is used to estimate the project schedule is Bottom-Up estimation in which
the project activities at the lowermost level in the hierarchy are estimated first followed by
the ones above.
