INTRODUCTION
Information system management is the computerized database which managed the
financial information of the organization in such a way that it generates regular reports on every
management level of the structure. The prime focus is to handle the feedbacks which are about
their own individual performance of the company. The board of directors or the top level
management will be able to monitor the organization as a single unit. The internet of things can
also be referred as the inter-networking of the physical devices, which is used to connect people,
data, things and processes to transform the life of an individual. This assignment contains the
literature review on the understanding of internet of things in the industrial sector. The reflection
is also done for knowing the learning and practices which are used in completing this module.
1. LITERATURE REVIEW
Gubbi and et.al (2013) stated that internet of things is useful in creating the vision,
architectural elements and giving future direction to the industrial sector. It is having the ability
to measure and understand the environmental factors by using delegate technologies and natural
resources. According to him, the main advantage of the internet of things is to store the more
data. The information will be more, so the decision making process will be very easy. The
industrial sector will get benefit from this because it will be easy for them to select the right
method which can give the best outcome. It makes tracking very easy. The computers will be
able to keep the track of all the processes majorly focusing on quality of the products and
viability of the services offered by this sector.
He mentioned one more thing which is related to saving the time. Internet of things will
save the monitoring time. The best advantage is in context with the financial aspect as this
technology will replace humans, which are taking care of monitoring facilities. Thus, it will be
helpful for the industrial sector to maintain the supplies. The organizations like IBM is getting
advantage in context with their connectivity system and services which can go beyond machine
to machine. It is helpful in gathering the information by using existing technologies and passes
the data without any disturbance to other devices.
According to Yang (2013), the internet of things can also be termed as internet of objects
or some cyber physical system, which will be used in connecting various objects in day to day
life. It uses different wireless connections to connect the objects so that the goal of the sector can
be reached. Vast range of application have been developed by using internet of things. The

human resource is getting affected the most by this because this is eliminating the involvement
of the human in the processes of the company. At one time it is helping in improving the quality
of the products and services but on other hand it is reducing the human to human interaction and
connection. This can be sometimes act against the industrial sector. Internet of things will
definitely dominate the budget and mindset of the people as well as it will boost up the
technologies.
Cui (2016) stated that internet of things is also having the device which is a stand-alone
internet connected device used to control or monitor the activities from different locations or any
remote location. They are having the entities which includes the consumers, business and
governments. It is having the physical layer which are the hardware used to make the device. It
includes the sensor or some networking gear. The prime focus of the organization is to maintain
the culture and structure of the organization so that their employees will work more freely. It is
affecting the daily life by affecting the transport services and reducing the pollution and waste
management from the organization.
But Xu, He and Li are strongly disagreed about the advantages caused by internet of
things. According to them, the complexity is very high in this system. Therefore, chances of
failure are more. The messages received by the other person may not be accurate which will
create wrong marketing plan. The system is compatible, because there is no such standard
tagging and monitoring system. The major big issue is related to privacy. The security is not
there and the data can be lost sometimes which will create problem for the industrial sector. The
final problem is safety. There are always some chances that the software can be hacked and the
information can be misused by the other person. The account can be hacked of any individual
which will put his relevant information at high risk.
Stankovic (2014) showed that even though, there are some disadvantages but the major
advantage is that internet of things is saving the time of the consumers as well as the money.
There are continuous efforts being made so that the defects can be overcome. In no time, internet
of things will be seen in almost all the sectors present in the entire industry world. The evolution
of internet of things is driving four major trends, which are; the shift to data enabling services,
the transformation of value chain management to consumer centric or product centric
approaches. It is also changing the technologies used in supply chain management by eliminating

the existing technology and finally it helps in providing the valuable feedback to the design of
the product so that the company can improve on that if any defect has been found.
Further Anna (2016) suggested that internet of things is just a general phrase which is
used in offering the internet enabled devices which can be accessed from any remote location.
This will be having significant impact on the business because the members will be able to know
all the things at the right time. This will track the entire process, so if anything goes wrong the
senior members of the organization will get to know about this. They are able to keep the record
of more data which will provide them enough material so that they can take the decisions to
improve those defaults. The process and services happening in the organization will be very
faster. The interconnected device will help in process the information very smoothly, so it will be
easy for the companies like IBM to keep the track record.
Further, she also stated that the energy and production will be a lot cheaper because of
the smart grid coordination. By the use of software the work from remote locations will be more
feasible. It will be helpful in increasing the productivity. The initial cost of the devices will be
high but the pay scale of to the employees will be less. They will be capable of manufacturing
more products and provide more services and by this the efficiency can be increased as well (Li,
Da Xu and Zhao, 2015). This will also provide the most effective means of communication
among the employees of the company. The internet of things have successfully changed the ideas
and materials among other people. The information gathered by them is the best one and the
organization will be able to get the information about anything related to their competitors in the
industry.
Whitmore, Agarwal and Da Xu (2015) thinks exactly opposite to that. Because,
according to them the illegal and inappropriate material and products can be found on the
internet. Some people have used the information related to the organization in the wrong way, so
that action has created the negative impact on the industrial sector. If any person is getting
addicted to that, then it will completely disturb their social and professional life and the ways of
living. Majority of the virus can also be spread by the internet of things, which can damage the
entire information from the system. It will also increase the competition among the companies
because if one company is offering some discounts on their products, then other company will
also offer the same or even more. It will definitely increase the competition in the market.

Nicole (2014) suggested that even though internet of things will keep on increasing the
data required by the business, the organization will start losing their sight for the most essential
driver of business i.e. their consumers. The industrial sector will have to face some new
challenges in context with the security of the information. It is practically not possible to avoid
internet of things because nowadays people in the organization is using this as their most
effective tool. The real time data available on the internet will definitely help in revolutionizing
the relationship among the consumers and suppliers. The customers will get to know about all
the manufacturing process of the company, therefore the staff have to make sure that they are
producing quality services and products. It is very essential for the industrial sector that they
don't lose their consumers because eventually it will reduce their profitability.
The web and internet of things will keep on expanding because the exchange of
information is more and it is not possible to do all the task by using the same memory space.
Therefore, all the companies manufacturing the elements used in internet of things have to
expand their data allocation space so that more information can be stored. This can be used
afterwards whenever necessary (Al-Fuqaha and et.al., 2015). But another essential thing is that
universally it can be dangerous. There is always some tragic coincidence happens with internet
of things. The prime concern is related to the dark breaches and security. There can be a potential
glitch as well. It means a loss in connectivity. This can stop all the working processes in the
industry. Irrespective of all the defects the internet connection and internet of things will keep on

Background of IoT
The internet of things involves the results generated by the intersection of the sensors,
networks, designs, models of business and wide industries' range. However, the development of
this sector can be understood with the help of its existence in different time scale:
 18th Century- his was the starting phase for the internet of things. IoT was not introduced
at that time but in this era, the electromagnetic telegraph was created. Also, first public
telegraph message was also generated in this timescale.
 19th century- Although the starting years were not that much able to prove IoT but the
later period was the revolutionary time in development of the internet of the things. The
innovation started in the 1969 when the Arpanet was created later then, TCP/IP were
begun. Also, domain name system was introduced in this era. Further, the biggest
revolutionary tool WWW was proposed and also, the first web page was also created in
this timescale. The major inventions in field of IoT in this time period were WearCam,
commercial websites like Ebay and amazon, google incorporation, inTouch project.
Furthermore, 1999 was the year which is considered as the big year for the IoT and MIT.

 20th century- This is that century which has faced many innovation and advances in the
IoT sector. The starting of 20th century was with the plan of internet refrigerator, which
is enough to estimate the advances that this century has faced. Further, 2008-2009 is
considered the born year of IoT. It is the time more objects were connected to the
internet. This century has cited the phases of development of laptops, Smartphones,
tablets, etc.
Consequences of the IoT on industrial area
The internet of things highly impacted the industrial sector. This element has already
grabbed a large deal of attraction in this sector for numerous reasons. These grounds involve the
better operational efficiencies, effective management of bottom and top line, improved logistics,
good control over supply chain management, better decision-making process through impelling
data delivery. Further, with its feature of automation it is simplifying may of the difficult and
time-consuming tasks in the industrial operations. Manufacturing departments is the most
benefited area from the revolution of IoT. These manufacturers may be automotive, chemical,
electronics, etc. Huge amount of investment is made by these companies in buying IoT devices
to bring effectiveness in their working. Some major advantages of using IoT in industrial sector

Recommendation
IoT is that revolutionary tool from which society can harness numerous benefits. The
major advantage for society is to their health and safety, the integration of internet to things in
the health care system is beneficial for both the individual and the society. People can be
implemented with individual chip that is governed by the various hospitals to monitor their
health. By tracking the signs given by the chip, their health issues can be understood. With the
help of this assessment attention can be provided to different patients depending upon their
condition.
In context to the safety factor, ADT a home security system helps society inn providing
their personal safety. In case when the individual is not present at the home, he/she then also can
monitor the security through their mobiles that have calibre to handle it. This advantage can
reduce so many crimes and will provide assistance in development of the society. Further, it also
helps in reducing the money associated with the households such as refrigerator, television, etc.
by making them able to communicate so that energy efficiency can be brought. Also, this tool is
helpful in creating the everyday plans of the people so that they can bring effectiveness and
regularity in their tasks. Businesses are also highly benefited with internet of things, it helps
them in tracking of their assets, provides assistance in inventory control, facilitates security to
them, etc. Also, the internet of things enables machine to machine communication which helps
people in understanding their condition. For example- determination of achieving critical load by
the trucks and other shipments. With these advantages, industries can help in society

There are also some negatives associated with the IoT but with the help of some
recommendation, these disadvantages can be evacuated. For example, by assisting technology
providers the security and cyber theft errors can be removed out from the tool by applying the
best security practices. Also, to implement the recent developments and trends present,
technological adopters can help the society. In addition to this, to deal with the data protection
and liabilities of the public, effectual public policies can be created. Further, there are also some
challenges related to the security, ability and risk management and these hurdles can be removed

by combining all the three stakeholders, namely, industries, government and public on long-term
R&D.

3. REFLECTION
The reflection has been written on the basis of Gibbs reflective cycle.
Description: The first things done in this study by me was to understand the information
management system. I had stated this by learning the internet of things and the elements which
can be used and how this can improve the industrial sector.
Feelings: At the time of learning, I was only thinking about the benefits it can create in
the business. I was feeling very positive while doing this study because it helps me in
understanding the benefits of internet and its impact on improving the performance of the
organization.
Evaluation: The good thing about this learning experience was to know the necessity of
internet in today's world, but the bad thing was the negative impact it can create on the image of
the company or as an individual as well.
Analysis: The main sense I can make out of all this study is that internet of things is
helping the company to improve the quality of the products. The industrial sector is able to fulfil
the consumer's requirement in very short time.
Conclusion: I could have used some models like SWOT analysis to know the strengths
and weakness of internet of things. Even though, it is expanding day by day, but the organization
have to improve their safety precautions to avoid any damage to their reputation.
Action plan: Internet of things will keep on improving and keep on providing the support
so that the industrial sector can perform better. I will advise the organization to apply internet
safety first, so that there will not be any chance of the leakage of the confidential information and
no hacker will be able to hack the system of the company. This will keep their information safe.
