a. Introduction
At present the use of technology is increasing in a rapid way. The use of the
different emerging technologies are occurring at the different parts and sectors of the
organization. In this context, the use of IoT in the different sectors of the industry can be
mentioned (Du, Song and Zhu 2019). Use of IoT has been extensive and the people are
using different applications of IoT at daily basis. There are some of the advantages of
using the IoT. However, there are some aspects of using IoT on the society. There are
some positive and some negative aspects of using IoT in the organization
The main objective of this paper is to understand the impact of using IoT in the
society. In order to do this the review of the literature can be done in a proper way. Apart
from that the aspects of using IoT can be reviewed through the collection of the data and
information from the different sources (Shahraki and Haugen 2018). In this context, it has
been seen there are certain technical aspects of IoT have been mentioned in the different
articles and journals reviewed. However, there are few things written about evaluation of
the IoT with respect to the social life. This can be the identified gap and this gap can be
merged through the discussion in this paper.
Regarding the use of the IoT in various aspects of social life some of the
questions can be raised. These questions are discussed after the review of the literature.
Apart from that the conclusion is drawn from the factors found from the discussion.
b. Background
The use of the IoT has enhanced the connectivity between the people. It can be
said with the use of the internet of things people can connect with each other through the
different virtual platforms. However, the level of abstraction on the IoT does not make

the people realize that they are using the IoT driven services. IoT in the social life can be
represented as the social extension of using the internet (Wang et al. 2017). There are
hardely few differences between the internet and IoT. Both have the same challenges and
the advantages. In both cases the challenges are data protection and security.
The challenges involved with the IoT has certain impact on the social life. It has
been seen in most cases, the breaching of the data is occurring through the Internet of
Things. Most of the users are using the IoT without knowing the security measures of this
technology. This is causing a great deal of data and the information threat to the users in
the organization (Neagu et al. 2017). Apart from that the intruders attack the IoT devices
as the functionality of the IoT devices are the inter connectivity between the devices. In
this situation, hacking of the one device can make way to access the other device.
It can be said that the impact of the IoT on the society sometimes overemphasized
assuming that there will be no technical causality from the user’s side. However, there are
some casualties present as most of the users of IoT are novice regarding the use of this
emerging technology.
Discussion about the social impact of IoT in society, there is a need to evaluate
how society is going to let the IoT to change the society. It has been seen that the changes
in the society has made the use of the IoT important.
It can be said that the social roles will pay a vital role for the challenges in the
IoT. The challenges in the IoT is largely dependent on the person using the system. The
change in the society can be occurred through the economic change and the changes in
the technology. Form these, it can be said that the present diversity in the society and the

growing demand of the consumers and the people are letting the society to become
inclined towards the use of IoT.
There are certain consequences of IoT that can be generated from the handling
and managing of the large amount of data. The collection of the data can be done from
the different sources. It is important to maintain the security of the data as the collected
data hold the confidential information about the people in the society (Lee, Choi and
Kim 2017). It has been seen that the use of the IoT in the society has improved the
efficiency in larger way. The use of IoT in the society also indicates the use of IoT by
government and public sectors. In this context, it can be said that the companies and the
governments are utilizing the use of IoT in an effective way (Deshkar, Thanseeh and
Menon 2017). The use of IoT is helping the government and the private organizations to
make the effective decisions on the basis of the analysis of the information and data.
The definition of the issues regarding the use of IoT in the society and the social impact
of using the ioT in the society is dependent on the higher expectation from the use of the
IoT from the society (Khanna and Kaur 2019). It is expected that the implementation of
the IoT will always generate better results. However, this is not necessary that the system
will always generate positive results. Some of the stated benefits of using the IoT is the
society are making the life of the individuals easier. In this context, the individuals can
easily do the daily functioning without any constraints. Apart from that the transport
efficiency and the greater control in monitoring all the systems can be achieved through
the use of IoT.
The use of IoT is occurring at the different sectors of the organization in the
society. In this context, the example of smart city can be mentioned. The smart city will

have the benefits of IoT. Apart from that it will lead to society to the energy efficient and
sustainable living. Apart from that the use of the smart house and the smart car are also
the results of the IoT implementation in the society. It has been seen that these
applications have a good impact on the society (Alsama et al. 2016). As well as there are
some glitches in these application those can turn into vulnerabilities. It is the
responsibility of the IoT implementer to implement the system in such a way it can
generate better results.
It has been seen that the use of the IoT has larger impact on the society. For
mentioning one of the use of IoT that has some social impact is the implementation of
IoT in the health care. It can be said that there are various improvisations are made in the
health care sector after the implementation of IoT in the system. The people in the
society are benefitted from these modifications and improvisations (Radanliev et al.
2018). In this context, it can be said that the people with the disabilities who cannot go to
the clinics can get the helps from doctors through the system implemented through IoT
(Luo, Lin and Wang 2016). Apart from that maintaining the health record in the digital
way is becoming easier with the implementation of the IoT. Regarding all these things it
can be said that the people in the society are getting larger benefits from the use of IoT in
the health care organization. The use of IoT has also helped in the monitoring in the
health care industry. It has been seen that the proper monitoring of the patients can be
done through the IoT dependent health care management system. This will monitor the
health condition of the patients in a proper way. In case if any abnormality is detected the
system will make this information passed to the doctors so that they can take proper steps
in this situation.

It has been seen though there are different applications of IoT indulged in the
system, still there is a need for the proper revision of the implementation of IoT in the
society. In most of the cases it has been seen that the inventors and the users are well
aware about the benefits of using the IoT driven system. However, most of them are not
well aware about the issues that may occur while using the IoT driven system. Apart from
that it can be said that with the use of the IoT in the society there are certain
consequences n change the approach of the people in the society that can change the
handling of the situation and the perspective of the people in the society (Shankara et al.
2015). It is dependent on the people of the society regarding the way they are going to
handle the use and the implementation of the IoT driven system in the organization. In
this context, it can be said that the use of IoT has both positive and negative impacts on
the society. However, the occurring of these impacts are also dependent on the way IoT
driven system is implemented in the society people.
Apart from that the people are needed to be aware about the security threats that
can be raised through use of IoT. It has been seen that most of the attacks are generated
from the IoT driven devices. In this xase, the user awareness are needed to be improved
(Kobayashi et al. 2016). As well as there is a need for the people in the society to make
proper steps in case any security attacks occurred.
From the review of the literature some of the open questions can be identified.
The first issue or the question that can be identified from this discussion is regarding the
social impact of using the IoT. Secondly, it is needed to be identified if the implemented
system is useful for the society (Frey, Xu and Ilic 2015). Apart from that it is needed to

c. Aims and significance
The main aim of this research is to identify the different social impacts for the use
of IoT driven system. This research mainly focuses on the social impacts of using the IoT
driven system. It has been seen that the use of the IoT can be done by the different
institutions and the organizations. There are certain sectors where the use of the IoT
driven system is transforming the functionalities of the people in the society in daily life.
Apart from that it has been seen the people in the society are enjoying the advantages of
using the IoT driven system (Edwards, McAuley and Diver 2016). Moreover, they are
using various IoT driven services and system unknowingly as the implementation of the
IoT is abstracted in those systems (Kor et al. 2016). There are certain advantages and
disadvantages regarding this type of use in IoT. In most of the cases, it has been seen that
the person using the IoT driven system through the abstraction is not well aware about
the emerging technology. /in this context he or she may not know the necessary steps
those are needed to be followed during the implementation of the IoT driven system in
the organization. Apart from that they are not well aware about the significance of

It has been seen that the intruders are using this vulnerability in order to hack the
IoT driven system. This is posing a threat for both the organization using the IoT driven
services and the individual people in the organization.
The significance of this research is that, the research tries to identify the
vulnerabilities present in the system of IoT. Apart from that the paper also identifies the

context the selected topic is the identification of the impact of using IoT in the society. In order
