Increase in use of internet allowed people to live a better and rich digital life in the form
of better information, opportunities, social connectivity and many more. The impact of emerging
internet use has the most effect on commerce. E-commerce or electronic commerce has become
the biggest industry to make use of internet in the most profitable way. Value Plus is an
Australian grocery store that wants to improve its business by reaching more people and expand
its geographical business region.
The system will have functions like login, registration, cart for product selection,
payment and many more. The system will track the stock available for each product at Value
Plus. In order to do that, system will interact with the warehouse subsystem. The system will
interact with the internal sub system at Value Plus to track attendance of employees.
The system will make all the back-office processes automatic. This will save a lot of time
of employees. Moreover, the system will track purchase related processes. There will be no need
to maintain customer data and sales data manually. Managers will get auto generated reports
which can be significant for decision making.

Risk Identification: There are total five major risks that are associated with
implementation of information system at Value Plus. These risks are as following.
i. Data Transfer from Existing System: transferring data from the existing in-house
application is considered to be one of the primary risks with implementation
project. In addition, transferring data to new system is key factor in success of
proposed project. Value Plus needs the current data to run its daily operations and
manage business. Re-entering huge amount of data into the system from scratch is
not an option as far as efficiency is concerned.
ii. User Resistance: Resistance from maintenance department personnel can be one
of the main concerns for this project. Generally, it was difficult to explain the
advantages and importance of this proposed system over the existing one. Now,
these personnel have to get training on how to maintain and use this system as
well as complete their daily tasks simultaneously. Not every personnel have
proper information on the technologies chosen for this new system. That is why
they also need to devote time on learning the basics of the technologies involved
in this project.
iii. Reliability of the System: The reliability of proposed information system at Value
Plus is under consideration because the developers not being sure of completely
comfortable with the chosen set of technologies. Unsettled list of requirements of
new system can be another reason for the new system to be unreliable. Scope
creep is a common issue in IT projects due to increase in complexity of functions
and unclear user requirements.
