CHAPTER 1 – INTRODUCTION
1.1 Overview
ISO was introduced in 1987 with the aim to promoting the quality of services and
products in different sectors. In modern era, ISO 9001-2015 it specifies requirements for the
organisation for a quality management system. The new structure of ISO structure is based on
Annex SL, it is new level of high structure which gives a common framework to all the
management standards. ISO is the new standard of version which is an integral part of the
organisation efforts which has been made towards the sustainable development and it also
promotes as a tool for improving the overall performance. In construction company ISO 9001 is
one of the set standards which provides the guidelines that how to establish a quality system
process which affects the services. The construction company will get many benefits if they have
secure the certification of ISO. For this Lakehouse company, UK has been taken into this
account.
1.2 Research aims and objectives
Research Aim:
To assess the benefits of ISO Implementation 9001-2015 for a Lakehouse company.
Research Objectives:
 To understand the norms for ISO 9001-2015 in context of the construction company.
 To identify the need of implementing ISO 9001-2015 in a Lakehouse company.
 To ascertained the benefits of implementation of ISO 9001-2015.
1.3 Literature Review
In this dissertation, as per the different witters view on ISO implementation will be
discussed. It is important for construction company to manage the certificate of ISO and through
this they will get advantage. The benefits of implementation of ISO standards has also been
evaluated with the different view points of authors.
1.4 Significance of potential research
The present thesis is suitable in assessing the implementation of ISO standards 9001-
2015. This standard is applicable to all type of companies whether they are large or small in size
or nature. It will provide process-oriented approach in documenting and reviewing the structure
the responsibilities which is required to gain the effective quality of management in business

entity. In ISO 9001-2015 it included some of the following updates such as; introducing new
terminologies, increasing leadership requirements, restructuring some information and many
more.
There is an importance of present investigation because of complex nature in
organisation. Through the construction companies can resolve many operational issues which are
associated by the organisation.
1.5 Structure of the project
The present thesis includes several chapters that posses the dissertation in effective
manner. The following are some chapters which are stated as below.
Chapter 1 – Introduction: In this the overview of the subject has been discussed. This
chapter provides the phenomena which is utilised in research. It also includes the details of
various research studies. Further, the aims and objectives of research.
Chapter 2 – Literature review: It is the most crucial section in present dissertation.
Through this different view points of authors in respect of ISO standards. It is kind of secondary
source which provide variable information to organisation. Along with this it is important in
construction companies because they have to ensure that how much quality of raw material is
using to construct the building.
Chapter 3 – Research methodology: This chapter reflects that which tools has been used
by the researcher to conduct any research. With the help of tools and techniques it also provides
an addition justification which will offer the depth knowledge about the subject.
Chapter 4 - Analysis and findings: In this, it will reflect on the data which has been
collected by the researcher with the help of primary and secondary source. This section will
analyse all the gathered information and it would be easy for organisation to attain the objectives
and follow ISO standard 9001-2015.
Chapter 5 – Conclusion and recommendations: In last section of the dissertation, it
includes the outcomes of presentation. Along with this some recommendation will address the to
recover more issues.

CHAPTER 2 – LITERATURE REVIEW
2.1 Introduction
This is the another chapter of this thesis is review of literature. Is is most significant part
of dissertation. In this different opinion of authors has been discussed. The subject matter which
are presented in this section is secondary source of information. It is conducted as forward
research manner. These does not provide the primary or reliable information. The role of
analysing the literature review is critical in analysing the gale which has emerge in the research.
Along with this it provide the brief discussion of topic which has been stated by various authors.
It provides the theoretical base with different phenomena. In present dissertation, The
construction company Lackhouse has been taken and they have to use implementation of ISO
9001-2015.
2.2 To understand the norms for ISO 9001-2015 in context of the construction company
ISO 9001-2015 is a standard of international level which specifies the necessary
requirement about quality management system. This international standard contains the
information about all requirements for quality level of the products and services of construction
company. It works like a strategic decision for an organisation. According to Chiarini, (2015) it
can be depicted that ISO 9001-2015 standard contributes in the organisation by organising
process of the business of construction company. As it provides a fixed pattern for quality
management system of the company it ensues the improvement in the efficiency of the process
related to products and services. This standard includes the requirement related to analysis and
improvement in the quality management system which the construction company has to follow
to be certified of ISO 9001-2015.
As per the view of Croft (2012) it is reserved that ISO 9001-2015 is an compulsory
requirement which every organisation must fulfil by demonstrating its ability to provide the
products to meet the customers as well as standard requirement. By fulfilling the requirement of
this standard as effective application of the quality system, the maximum customer satisfaction
can be achieved by the organisation. All norms of ISO9001-2015 is compulsory for every single
organisation regardless the size of the organisation.
As stated by Date (2013) it is inferred that ISO 9001-2015 standard is a regulation which
has norms and rules guideline which includes relationship with the staff, internal stakeholder like

suppliers and partners, documentation of every single assets and liability of the organisation like
construction company. The standard focuses on the risk management because by following its
requirement an organisation can reduce its risk regarding then product as it ensures the best
quality level of the product.
Thus according to the different authors many different concept of the ISO9001-2015 cab
be seen. This standard norms focuses on the awareness and communication in the organisation so
that there will be no difficulty in the production process of the construction company.
2.3 To identify the need of implementing ISO 9001-2015 in a Lakehouse company
The ISO 9001-2015 is needed in the organisation especially in the construction company
so that a good quality level in the product and services can be provided to the customers by the
company. There are changes for improvement in the quality management system in the
construction company and for that this ISO 9001-2015 standard id needed. The organisations
need this standard norm because by following the requirement of this standard they can get the
improved performance of their company in the market. The organisation needs the ISO norms to
follow because by doing so they can get benefit from improved quality of their product to the
customer. According to Elias and Dunning, (2015) it is examined that standard is needed to
provide guidelines and support to ensure the continue credibility of the product of the
construction company. In the construction company there are many numbers of the labours who
work for hours. Their work condition should be well ans suitable for them to work. For that ISO
9001-2015 is needed because it provides the regulation sand rules which have to be followed by
every organisation so that all worker can effectively perform their duty as they are the most
important asset of the organisation.
As all construction companies consume oil for the construction which leads to pollution
in the environment. To prevent the pollution there is need for rules and regulation which must be
followed, so the ISO standard provides that compulsory regulation. The another need of ISO
9001-2015 is to provide safe product by construction company so that there will be no harm to
the customer or consumer and can be satisfied with the product and services.
Thus there are many reason for which the ISO9001-2015 is required in every
organisation especially construction company to improve their existing performance regarding
employees, customer satisfaction,product quality as well the structure of the whole organisation.

For documented procedures and monitoring and measurement of every single task of the
organisation needs a level of quality for which the ISO standard norms and regulation is needed.

of the ISO standard is that it makes sure of quality management system in the organisation
which leads to the best performance as well as improved performance. Another benefit of the
ISO standard norm is that it sets the responsibility with clarity across whole organisation. The
compulsory norms conveys the positive message ensuring the employees of the organisation
about their rights which leads to sense of security in them. Because of the mandatory norms of
the ISO 9001-2015 the organisation tries to identify the time saving and reasonable cost
generating processes.
According to Fonseca (2015) it is inferred that benefit of the ISO 69001-2015 is that this
standard highlights if there is any deficiency in the performance of the organisation. By
rectifying the deficiency in the performance the organisation can get maximum efficiency in the
future in the long term. This standard norm helps the organisation in cutting the unnecessary
cost in the production process of the product. The benefit of the continuous improvement in the
quality of every process of the organisation can be achieved by the ISO standard. The ISO
provides various market opportunities for the organisation as through this the organisation can
make good image in the sight of the customer with best quality gentleman system.

make delivery of the product on decided time or work done in time .The standard provides the
assurance for the organisation to achieve desired result in time with effectiveness. Social benefit
of ISO standard is that it provides the guidelines related to the suitable condition for

especially construction company. The ISO standard norms and regulations are implied on every
single organisation all over the world to make a good quality product in the industry to satisfy
customers as well as the environment can be saved.
According to Fonseca (2015) it is examined that the steps for implementing the ISO
9001-2015 are as follows.

Top management committee – The higher authority has to make commitment towards
implementing the ISO 9001 standards. The ISO standards provide evidence in the development
and implementation of the quality system management in appropriate manner.
Establish implement plan – ISO 9001 standards are implemented by the people of
organisation. The construction company has to make coordination and oversee implementation.
The all the members of company should be include in this. The dignity should be include and
detailed knowledge of quality method which help the investigator to get the information.
Start ISO 9001 Awareness programmes - The investigator has to start the increase the
awareness about the ISO 9001 which includes customers, employees and organisation. These
awareness should be emphasis on the benefits for researcher and organisation.
Conduct initial survey – The researcher has to conduct the survey and make efforts to
get reliable information. Through survey the researcher can get different view points of
customers, employees which will help them to know that how many customers are aware about
this.
Create documentation plan and develop quality management system - The
researcher has to create document plan for the implementation of ISO 9001. The instruction

information from different sources. The present dissertation is on the use of implementation of
ISO 9001-2015 for a construction company. In this context many techniques has been utilized to
collect the relevant information.
There are many methods which can bes used by the investigator to collect various
information. In this researcher can decide to use different method for their undertaking. These
approaches are quantitative, qualitative, cross-sectional and mix approach (Georgiev and
Georgiev, 2015). The present topic is based on quantitative approach which is in nature of
descriptive study. The reason for using this approach is because it gives a proper information
about the research problem. Research methodology is the systematically way which provide the
solution for the research problems. It can be understood with the help of studying that how
research should be done. There are various steps which is generally adopted by the various
researcher and find the solution with the logic behind them. For researcher it is important to
understand the research method techniques. In construction company the researcher has to use
different techniques so that they can find out the implementation of ISO 9001-2015 standards.
Researcher have to decide that which tools and techniques will be used for resolving their
problems.
Some of the research problem are based on scientific method which has to be identified
by the researcher. With the help of scientific methods, the information are relies upon the
empirical evidences, utilize the relevant concepts and many more (Gupta and Choubey, 2015).
Through the scientific method the construction company can get the scientific information but
also a logic behind them. By constructing a house they will also know how much raw material
should be utilised to providing the good quality of services. The researcher has to follow the
proper structure in which they can collect the information in best manner.

Firstly they have to formulate the problem, in this they have identify that what is the
nature of the problem whether in qualitative or quantitative nature and then relate relationship
between variables. After investigator has to extensive literature survey. Once the problem has
been identified then it should be written clearly. It is significant for researcher to work upon
thesis. For extensive literature survey the researcher can use books, journals, magazines to get

There is need for the systematic plan for the work. With the help of research design it
provides the direction to investigator in systematic manner. Research design is to be considered
as process. The present research is descriptive research which has been applied in this topic. The
information will depend upon some secondary information. With the help of primary information
the investigator can can make interaction with the individual group. Research design also offers a
questionnaire for collecting data from different places which will determine the the use of
implementation of ISO 90001-2015 in the construction company.
Research Approach
in this the investigator can use different type of research. There are many approaches
which can be used by the investigator. The combination of these can be utilized for conducting
any type of research. There is an inductive and deductive. The present thesis is based on
inductive approach (Heras‐Saizarbitoria and Boiral, 2013). With the help of inductive research
the research is carrying out an investigation can take the information from individuals in order to
gain the more information. Through this approach the researcher can also determined patterns
and regularities which are used in finding the norms and regulations of ISO 9001-2015. with this
approach some theories and conclusion can be determined. The researcher more theories and
ideas from emerging the data. It will help them to improve their skills and knowledge in ISO
9001-2015 standards.
Research philosophy
it is systematic process to conduct the research in appropriate manner. Through this
research investigation is conducted to get the more accurate information about topic. To select
this theory because it is subjective in nature and it depends on reality of the research. It helps in

attaining the knowledge from different sources and tell the different relationship about the ISO
standard 9001 with 2015. there is also another positivism theory which has not been adopted by
the researcher because in that lots of efforts has to make by the investigator. It covers the
uncover facts which may five wrongful information to investigator. These facts may be attached
in qualitative and quantitative nature (Hoy and Foley, 2015). The use of positivism approach by
investigator is able together the collection of facts and figures in relation with the subject matter.
The present research is based on subjective so it can not be quantified at all. If the investigator
use interpretivism philosophy they have to make lots of efforts so that they can attain the goals
and objectives of the research project.
3.2 Sampling
It is considered as tool which help in taking the decisions from a large number of data.
The researcher can use various methods in which they can get the accurate answers. There are
different types of sample methods in which the researcher can select according to the topic.
While selecting the sample design that in which manner they will collect the information they
have to gather the information all together. There are different kinds of sampling which can be
applied by investigator. According to their research topic they can any any sampling method.
The purpose of sampling is to gather all the data about the population in order to make inference
through which it can generalize the the population. The sampling design can be based on two
methods such as probability and non-probability. For the present study the random sample
method is used which is known as the probability sampling. In this four techniques are included
such as random, stratifies, cluster and systematic (Ismyrlis and Moschidis, 2015). In random
sampling, the investigator can easily identify the problem and get the desired results.
3.3 Data Collection
Data can be in many kind like primary data, secondary data, qualitative data and quantitative
data. Primary data includes the data which is collected directly from the researcher. The primary
data is directly related to the subject of the researches data is collected from many direct
methods. One of the most useful collection method of primary data is in interview in which some
questions are asked to the interviewee and according to the answers of the interviewee final
interview report is prepared. Another collection method of the primary data is observation in
which in specific circumstances, some fixed procedures are applied and the result is recorded.

Questionnaire method is also one of the important methods of collection of primary data.
In this methods there are a list of some questions related to the research subject and asked to the
general public or a closed group of a particular place. A report on the basis of the answers and
responses is prepared (Ismyrlis and Moschidis, 2015). After preparing the report if there is any
scope of improvement, a suggestion list is also provided in the final report of the questionnaire
method of primary data collection. Life history is also a method of collecting primary data in
which the past events and incidents are recorded in the report and on the basis of that conclusion
is made. Case study is also a type of primary data collection method which helps the organisation
to make conclusion about the subject given in the case study. All kind of the primary data has
one quality in common which is the various number of the questions on the research subject
which are asked to the direct users or the other than the direct users. These collected data are
used by the research team of the organisation to prepare the report in which the suggestions of
the team members are also mentioned in the final report.
Secondary data is also an important type of data which the organisation uses to collect
information. Government reports are most important and official method by which the data is
collected. In this method the government report provides the information about any important
announces related to the commercial sector which can be used by the organisation for specific
purpose. The data collection may be also other two types as qualitative and quantitative data. In
the qualitative data there are textual and visual data like some questions and observations are
included. The qualitative data collection is easy to achieved as they do not include any tough
calculation or data in it. The qualitative data is more vast than the quantitative data collection
method as it has no limited numerical data in it.
Focus group is a type of qualitative data collection method in which a fixed group of
people who are the main subject of the method. On the other hand the quantitative data collection
method is hard to prepare but they are the most accurate and clear data collection method. In the
quantitative method there are statistical or numerical values of the data is included (Ismyrlis,
Moschidis and Tsiotras, 2015). There are some mathematical calculations and formulas also used
to get the final result from the data. The quantitative data provides the data in then numerical
value which facilitates the researcher to get the exact and effective report about the research
subject.
